Plattsburgh isn't any worse than Amherst (as small towns go); it's just a little colder.

100% false

I just mean in terms of as a destination for out of town visitors.

I've been to LeFrak, and my eyeballs tell me that even with supplemental bleachers its seating capacity can't easily be made to exceed much over 600.

I think you're mistaken.

 Question for Pat:
So between Plattsburgh and Amherst, who had a higher number as far as that who beat who thing went? I thought that was what determined who hosted for the most part.
If Amherst had the higher number is it possible they gave it to Plattsburgh in order to give someone else a chance? I couldn't have gone to Friday's game anyway.

that is what I thought you meant..I do not think Amherst has luxury accomodations.. my point was that for out of town visitors, Amherst is a far better place to visit with many more things to do

Plattsburgh was unbeaten in its region. I think Plattsburgh clearly was the higher seed.

I hear the city throws a top-notch lacrosse party (baseball bat to the skull optional).

I have to say....I am SHOCKED that Amherst does not get to host next week. Plattsburg is coming in with two losses from a VERY weak schedule. They needed to go to OT to win their only NCAA game thus far.  Amherst has two losses in D3 that were to NCAA teams that have advanced a round in the NCAAs. I think Brandeis has a legit argument having beaten Amherst and having the most competitive schedule from the UAA, not to mention being located in Boston which is very accessible. Can somebody please expalin this rationale of going up to the Canadian border for an NCAA tourny weekend when the two teams ranked higher that Plattsburg are from the same state while the other team is from NJ and closer to MA. This is quite confusing.

Pat Coleman

The NCAA doesn't have to agree with our rankings.

Well, no they don't but I think they would at least have both Bradeis and Amherst somewhere in the top 10. The two schools are an hour and a half apart! Looking quickly through Plattsburg's schedule, their only NCAA caliber win seemed to be Middlebury while Amherst and Brandeis have a combined 10+ wins against NCAA teams. I hope for the sake of ridiculousness, that its an Amherst-Brandeis final this weekend (which I would bet on anyways) playing 5+ hours away on the Canadian border in front of only their parents while their student bodies listen to a spotty d3cast broadcast.

Pat Coleman

If everyone can bus and the top seed's gym meets the minimum requirements, then the top seed gets to host pretty much every time. They're not going to take that away from Plattsburgh because it's inconvenient to Brandeis' fans.

I'll be there.  Not lookin forward to the drive though.
I've only seen NCAA games in Lefrak and the Salem Civic Center, so I'm interested to see how the atmosphere compares.

I think the NCAA may have decided for once to follow their criteria.  Plattsburgh has the only undefeated regional record in the country.  If you look on D-III hoops they are ranked #1 on the SOS measurement.

Their non-conference schedule compares in W-L to the other three teams in the regionals, all played out of conference teams with a 57% win %, and Plattsburgh's was dropped by an unexpected game vs. SUNY Purchase (3-22) when they were upset in a post-break game at Union, otherwise Plattsburgh would have had a higher non-conference win % than the other three teams.

In conference, the Cards were undefeated & won both the regular season and the conference tournament and were the first team since Potsdam's 60 game winning streak team (86-87) to do that trifecta.  Amherst DID lose in the semis of its conference tournament.

I also know that the New York contingent was pretty unhappy three years ago when three New York teams with a combined record of (76-7) including an undefeated team, had to truck (in a blizzard) to Amherst, which acted like it could care less about their visitors, (no concessions, poor parking, not hotels close to the venue) and did frankly a lousy job of hosting the sectional, not to mention losing the first night.

OK, I admit, that got me thinking.  And scrambling to fact check.  Actually their SOS is #182, not #1.  There overall regional rank is #1 because they were undefeated in region.
