Faces of a champion

I found it interesting too. it was well done. On a side note I found this about some recruits coming to the NESCAC next year.

Is it my imagination, or is deputy dog schizo?!? It seems like this guy is having six different conversations with himself! Seven straight, one-line posts of the most random format? Somebody calm Sybil down...

Good one Friar T. Plus k.

Are there sectional MVP's posted anywhere?

I haven't seen that any sectional other than the one I attended (MVP Troy Ruths) actually named an All-Sectional team.

The Ursinus one didn't apparently name one... and from what I have learned... the other two didn't either.
Not sure what happened.

Honestly... I am not really sure why there is a Sectional "Team" and "MOP/MVP." There isn't a selection in the first weekend while there is an all-tournament team announced after the Championship Weekend. I know it is in the handbook that there should be one, but it really makes no sense.

Hixon should have plenty of help scouting Ursinus, since they beat Trin and Midd and lost to Williams earlier this year ... hard to believe the Ephs blew them out in the first game of the season, but of course that was early in the year before Ursinus hit its stride and Williams fell apart.

Shattuck is a superstar, and they have lots of mid-sized athletes who can shoot, 6'4 - 6'5 range, but of course Amherst has even better and bigger athletes at the same positions, Walters and Jones will be a VERY tough match-up for the Ursinus forwards.  They have a small Div-I transfer, Hilton, who is a deadly shooter from anywhere.  Shema seems to have developed over the course of the year as his production has really gone up.  He is 6'10, but that is the only significant guy over 6'5 for Ursinus, and he is no match for the avalanche of bigs the Jeffs can throw out.  Ursinus had a pretty easy path to the final four, catching a break with UR's loss, I think Amherst will handle them with ease, setting up a titanic battle with the winner of Hope / Wash U.

What's the protocol among coaches / coaching staffs when preparing for a game when one of your conference members has played that team during the season.  Does Hixon pick up the phone and call Paulsen?  Does Paulsen initiate the call?  Do the assistants handle this?

Given the rivalry between Williams and AmHerst, does conference loyalty trump the rivalry?  There is obviously a great rivalry between Hixon and Paulsen.  Does Paulsen put that aside and help Amherst with a scouting report on Ursinus.  Given that Williams had the most success against Ursinus ( compared to Midd and Trin) does Paulsen share the "secret sauce" that allowed Williams to handle Ursinus so easily (albeit the game was very early in both team's season).

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Hixon and Paulsen are friends.

Hahaha

Amherst +2

Hope -6

It is the end of the road for the Lord Jeffs.... they're place in history will be sealed when NIck Shattuck drops 30 points on the wimp guards of the Jeffs.... the big man 41 for Ursinus who is also 6'10 will have a field day against hopkins because hopkins is a lanky uncoordinated big who has fed off the likes of great penetration and slashing abilty of Olsen.... basically he can not create his own offense, and his offensive rebounding ability(or lack there of) will be completely neutralized.... which is why the early spread of amhesrt giving 9 points is ridiculous and the only reason i would consider them giving points is because they have been there and have the experience..... talent>experience in this game and AMherst goes down 68-66 in a down to the wire game

Hope is clearly the favorite, I dont know much about them but has been running through the field pretty easily, which is why they hold off the final four competitor 62-56.

Hahaha

And La Verdad.... who cares if "Nixon too cool for school" or "Paulsen the mental midgett" are friends...... get a life and stop making your life revolve around this site

Hahaha

I love how you speak of the "wimp" guards of Amherst, then cite Olsen's excellence as a reason for the Amherst's bigs buckets. Very consistent. I also love how you knock someone for posting on this site, in an actual post on this very site. Again, very consistent.

As far as Hixon and Paulsen, I would guess that Paulsen not only helps Hixon out with scouting Ursinas, but is pulling for the Jeffs in the final four. It is good for the conference, and adds a little motivation for next years squad. I could be wrong though. I don't know either coach.

To be fair, it could have made sense -- maybe he was calling Olson "wimpy" defensively and "great" offensively.

He'd still be wrong though... Olson is a tough defender who contests tons of shots.  Look at how the best PGs in New England shot when they faced Amherst this year:

Shalvoy - 5 for 13
Rudin - 3 for 11
Hasiuk - 5 for 16
Roberson - 0 for 4 the first meeting, 2 for 9 the second

Also, where in the world do you come up with statements like "Hope is clearly the favorite?!"

Olson also had two blocks in the Deis game and is 8 assists away from 750 in his career. Not a bad four years when you factor in the 1100+ points, 110+ wins, 3 final fours and 1+ national championship/s.

Let's keep the consistency going...

How can Ursinus "neutralize" the lack there of offensive rebounding "ability" of Hopkins?

I love your posts though. You are on my short list for next year's fourth annual All-NESCAC All-Crazy Team. Keep it up.

eclinchy

Haha.  Hopkins doesn't lack offensive rebounding ability.  If he's not getting offensive rebounds, it's because his team isn't missing shots.  And last time I checked, that was a good thing.

Can you tell me who Shalvoy plays for? Is this the same Chris Shalvoy from the Rochester, New York area? I saw him play at an AAU tourney a few years back. I thought he had a fairly good game!!

Despite my pickems (which are dead anyway), I'm now rooting for Plattsburgh, just to spite the NESCAC and UAA posters who are being so rudely arrogant.
change your mind or are you going to root for a hope-ursinus championship game.
