Hmm, that sounds really negative now that I re-read it.

I should point out that we had record voter turnout this year and surpassed 50% for the first time in a while. On the men's side, 59% of the eligible schools cast a ballot.

(So, one more NESCAC ballot would have put the conference right at average.)
ok...i guess that isn't so bad. pat, why do you think the turnout is around so low. i know in hs in the nj area the turnout is usually arund 80%-90%. do you think it is the timing or they just don't think it is a big enough priority? i thought stone and a few others might get some love. which conference had the highest turnout in the northeast?

Pat Coleman

I think there are a lot of part-time SIDs who are overwhelmed with work and don't want to take the time to fill out a ballot. We did some things this year to lower that burden on our end and I think it was a success.

Because we know many schools' SIDs travel with their teams on spring break, we spread the voting window over parts of two weeks. In the days before prevalent laptops and high-speed internet in hotels this was more of a problem, but we want to still make sure schools have every opportunity we can give them timewise.

The NEWMAC came out in nearly full force.

It shows.

First the NEWMAC champion knocks the NESCAC champ out in the first round... then they get more all-region nods than the NESCAC... pray tell, what's next?  I'm terrified.

Well, those two items may be related. Not sure Sowers gets on the team if Coast Guard goes one and out.

I'd have to agree with La Verdad on this one.  Maybe I'm biased because he is a loyal customer, but let's not forget how much he was playing by his second year.  And I'm just a waitress- not any type of hostess or anything, but since the diner is a social setting let me provide an introduction.

btw, the plattsburgh people were great.

Thanks for the compliment. Where did you end up staying & which restaurants did you venture into.

eclinchy,
Nice article on Amherst.

fpc85,

If you get the chance come back to Plattsburgh and the Champlain Valley in the Summer. The lake is great and the Adirondacks are right down the road if you want to go there. You may also want to sample the official snack food of the Plattsburgh area if you return. They are called "Michigan's"!!! They have nothing to do with the state but are a favorite of our area!!!

I don't recall "Michigan's" in Plattsburgh specifically, but (as a Michigander) was amused by it throughout the Adirondacks.  Unless you mean something else in P'burgh, as far as I could tell it was what we call a 'Coney [Island] Dog' in Michigan!

I've always found it amusing how place names get attached to things that have no real connection to that place. ::)  [e.g., Chow Mein is totally an American dish; in China they would have no clue what you were asking for.  And don't ask for French Fries in France unless you want them to be even more rude than their reputation!]

I can't testify to P'burgh in bball season, but, yes, it is a lovely town in summer.

For those born and raised on the Great Lakes, Lake Champlain is a pond.

Yeah, but some there tried to get it officially declared the sixth Great Lake! :D

And ya gotta admit, it a 'pretty good' lake.

A pond with beautiful scenery on both sides!!! On one side the Green Mountains and on the other the Adirondacks. Not to bad a view!! Plattsburgh is very lucky to be right in between!!!!!!!!!!!

All the Pro Bass Fisherman think it's one of the best lakes in North America. We've hosted top tournaments here many times over the past 5 or 6 years. It may not be as big as any of the Great Lakes but I'm willing to bet it's quite a bit cleaner. And of course we have something none of the Great Lakes have: Champy, the Lake Champlain monster.

Rumor has it one of the Brandeis fans spotted "Champy" on their way over to the Burgh the other day. Then again some one told me they also had indulged in a case of Sam Adams during the trek from Beantown!!!!!!! Could have been the same person who said Amherst F****** sucks to one of our Amherst visitors ;D ;D ;D

Lake Superior has the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. And that's no myth.

I'll take a live sea monster over a rusty wreck anyday! ;D

Almost forgot. Ask Mrs. Sandra Mansi if Champy is a myth. Her famous sighting and photograph broadcast on several national news programs have sure generated plenty of interest over the years.
