Olson gets NABC national player of the year. Congrats to him and the whole senior class on an amazing 4 years.

This is only based on the most recent Williams players who have played in Europe (Crotty and Tucker Kain), but I think that Walters might have the best shot to do really well overseas.  From what I understand, the small, not overly quick a la Steve Nash guards are a dime a dozen in Europe. Certainly not all of them are as talented as Olson but I think Walters height/muscle/athleticism in addition to is overall skills as a basketball player would be desireable for a number of European league teams. Coffin was heighly sought over by an number of teams for this same reason but chose not to play whereas a Crotty like player was not as "novel" over there. Many of these teams can only have 2-3 US players on their team so they have to be pretty picky in terms of who they are picking up.

any word on the difficulties of obtaining various dual citizenships? is it true that you only need to prove ancestral history to get citizenship in Ireland? that would certainly increase the chances of American players looking to extend their basketball careers.

Last I heard, an American could gain Irish citizenship if one grandparent was born in Ireland . .

If any of the NESCAC players out there want to get a taste of playing overseas and be involved in some ministry work at the same time, please visit www.nrbasketball.org.  The summer after my senior year I went with this organization and must say that it was one of the best times of my life.  You get a chance to play against club teams in Europe in an exhibition style game (kinda like those travelings teams of pros that play against DI schools here in the states) and the opportunity to interact with and minister kids during the day.

I'm co leading a tour this year and would love to have some NESCAC players, past or present, on the squad.  Contact me for more information or go to the website.  The only reason i thought to post on this board was because of the conversation about playing overseas.  While this is not the primary focus of the program, this trip does serve as an informal audition for the club teams that we are playing against.  There have been guys that have gotten jobs with teams after going on tour.  Just another option for the ballers out there.

Speedy is correct.

As someone with dual Irish / American citizenship, the process is fairly easy.  You can apply through the Irish Consulate in NYC.  There's some documentation needed, including the "long-form" birth certificate of the grandparen or parent who was born in Ireland.

Dual Irish citizenship is quite useful, given Ireland's membership in the European Union.
