Ephoops, in fairness to Amherst, they were originally scheduled to play the Amherst J.V. junior high team, but they cancelled at the last minute ...

I agree, ridiculous.  If memory serves, Amherst women have played similar early season opponents in the past as well ...

From what I have heard Ryan O'Connell is expected to get minutes at some point this year.  His offensive skills are comparable to those of Hippert, but his defense still has to improve.  Also, it will take him some time to learn all the offensive plays and schemes.  I expect him to get a chance to help Bowdoin next weekend in the Salem St Tourney.  Once he gets his opportunity, his confidence will build and he will start to get more and more minutes.  I expect O'Connell to average 10-12 minutes a game by the time league play starts.

Sounds like Hixon does the scheduling for the women as well...

Note: I'm posting on the NESCAC men's board also because it appears that the NESCAC women's basketball board gets limited traffic.

For a reason...no offense GP.

Senatorfrost, I don't think you are acknowledging how much of a contribution the guys who didn't get many minutes gave to the team last year. You are right about them being unknown, but isn't the future always a mystery? I think being in the 99th percentile for three consecutive years has earned Amherst the benefit of the doubt.

So what's the word on Trinity this year?  They play Ithaca College at the Chuck Resler Tournament at UR this Friday.  Will they have a game before then?

I'll bet they don't finish second. I doubt they will be in top four.

Well if you're going to make a statement like that, who are the four teams you see finishing ahead of them?

I attneded the keene williams game on sat, williams looked like a team that will do fine for themselves this year.  Keene started 3 freshman but Williams was in control for about 75 percent of the game.  I know they have a new coach, i was impressed with the decesions he made espically against keenes two big men Kathan and Anderson.  Kathan is a preseason all american and i felt that WIlliams did a good job of not letting him take the game over.  Wonder if it is a sign to come on some of the big guys they will see in the NESCAC

Amherst 08- I can't measure intangibles. For example I thought Mike Salerno was a great leader and an almost inspiring example. Was he? I don't know for sure.
Benefit of the doubt-I see your point but I always try not to be a fan when attempting to prognosticate. If I did give Amherst the benefit I would have them at #2-3 because even though the win at Keene wasn't really as great as it would have been in other years, Williams still has three starters back from their NESCAC title team. Two were frosh at the time. Isn't that a little impressive?

what happened to 6'6" billy butler? not on the roster? did he not make the team this year?

herst 2and4: First of all that was accident-the other post went first.

I said if no frosh in rotation of 7-so if that turns out to be the case then Williams, with as I have said 3 starters from 2007 title team. Trinity with a very impressive looking frosh class. Check out Exeter site-some say best team ever. Pike and Applegate get plenty of notice. Trotter the scorer is only going to Dartmouth and the team beat and stayed with some of the best D! prep schools. Bates looked promising and has an Exeter player who got mention also. Now realistically speaking the chances are only one of the three Exeter frosh are going to be in the Pierce league.
However, if one is and gets with a team that is functioning, that team is dangerous. Bowdoin looks like a remote possibility and Amherst even without frosh has to be seriously considered. Then of course those frosh from other teams could sit on the bench the whole season. However, I would guess that the Exeter bunch are probably older.
Most important remember that you can take my opinion and two dollars and get a real good cup of coffee with some change.

Yes, that is impressive. So was their field goal percentage that weekend. Those are painful memories. Talk about daggers. For clarity's sake, it is a fact that Mike Salerno was a tremendous leader and an inspiration during the ting campaign of '07 and every other year he was a part of the Jeffs. I'll let my bias continue to measure intangibles and say that I am certain he still is.

I can't wait for tonight's opener. I only wish I could be in LeFrak for the first "Let's get ready to rumble" bell toll of the season.

ne-ball, I can only speculate. He's very bright, so I am sure it's got something to do with his quest for a Nobel prize.
