Listen, guys, I'm not saying whether they're right or not -- I'm just reporting what was said. You guys draw your own conclusions. Repeating the salient words:

I think it's pretty apparent from the rhetoric ... those schools felt academic standards are at issue.

A perfect example of why you should NOT get hung up on current polls happened yesterday when an UNRANKED Luther team defeated last years National Champs Millikin by 23 points at Millikin! To top it off, Luther was 7-1 going into the game & was not to be found anywhere in the current Top 25.

Pat Coleman

Yep. Now Luther has actually beaten someone and will get ranked.

Interest in Women's Basketball ebbs & flows. i worry that formation of a "new League" will dilute that interest - just got to the point where i could name all l6 members.   Sorry, will people follow Drew for example (other than Drew people) now that they're in the new Cerebral League.  Oh brother.

Kate,

I don't think there will be a dillution of interest. The same people will root for their respective favorites. I think it will be interesting to see who, if any teams will be added to the Mac???? Perhaps they will cut the the remaining 12 in half and have 2, 6 team divisions? ] in place of the 2, 8 team divisions} The problem with that may be an automatic qualifier to the big dance? Will the NCAA still offer an automatic spot to the winnners of such? It may be interesting.

Anyway, I will be curious to see how my Lady Royals do in Las Vegas. They open with Simpson and then play either Bates or Balwin Wallace.

Also, Taryn Mellody needs only 29 points to reach 1000. Not bad for about a third way thru her junior season..

bballislife

Looks like Scranton had a good first effort in Vegas....Congrats to Julie Brophy who had a career night.....19 points on 7-14 shooting, 3-6 from beyond the arc...This kid reminds me of Jaime Eilbacher, Class of 2001...both are great shooters from beyond the arc, however, I think Julie is a bit more athletic than Jaime was....Anyway, it's nice to see someone come off the bench and score a bunch of points for the Lady Royals.  More proof at how deep the Lady Royals are.

Big game tomorrow night for the Lady Royals....They are actually going into the game as the underdogs, facing #6 Baldwin-Wallace.  Should be a good test for the girls since they are used to being the hunted and not the hunter.  Also, Taryn Mellody is 13 points away from 1,000.  Too bad the game is in Vegas, this is a March Madness type game in the middle of December.  Oh well....Good Luck to the Lady Royals!! and Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Lady Royals fans:
you can catch the play-by play for the Simpson game on the d3desertshootout.com website. the Baldwin-Wallace game should be there tonight about 10 pm(EST) 1 hour after the game conclusion. you can follow line-by-line if you want to pretend it's live.
looks like Simpson subbed 5 at a time like the Royals-half the entries are player substitutions.

That was a very impressive win last night for the Lady Royals - great Christmas present!  For all MAC teams & coaches we hope that you have a relaxing break from b'ball for this little break & that everyone enjoys a Happy & Healthy New Year!

uofs

Lady royals are the real deal.Baldwin Wallace was up by 6 with 4.04 left 47-41 and Scranton took the game over Taryn Mellody was shut down for the first 36 mins.but she was there when you needed her that is why she is an All American first team by WBCA.Baldwin Wallace is by far the best team Scranton has faced this season.

Yesterday. sitting around the dinner table we were discussing the League shake-ups, and nobody could come up with a good reason for all this change.  New computer layouts & sites, new letterheads, squabbling among officers, probably further distance for most teams, & i still say interest will be diluted.  It's crazy - can someone list why these moves are profitable - not just money reasons.  Oh, Happy   HEALTHY New Year to all  teams & Coaches.  GO DEL VAL!!!!!

I doubt the MAC defections have anything to do with money (though some of the road trips will certainly be more expensive, especially the football overnighters). Rather, they have to do with [perceived] academic-athletic prestige. E.g., if you are an academic-elite wannabe, do you wish to continue associating with the Wideners, DelValleys, and Lebanon Valleys? No, there's no [perceived] profit therein.

BTW Juniata and Moravian have long wanted Centennial Conference membership. As for Susquehanna ... jeez, I don't know what they are thinking of up there. Under the new conference alignments, in football they will have trips to St. Lawrence, a venue not far-removed from Montreal; in basketball they'll trek to both the eastern and western reaches of the New York City motropolitan area and to the District of Columbia.

kate

"Wannabe" is the crucial word there, Warren.

Nobody likes double posts, i know, but Del Val, as well as every college in the current MAC have their share of "doctors, lawyers, & Indian Chiefs," as was mentioned in a D-3 Football post months ago.   On another subject (not really, :)),  Del Val has their 2005-06 squad picture on the web - everyone looks great!!!

???  haven't been able to keep up with post as I broke my heel and my computer etc is in an upstairs office...  So what the h? is going on  athletic elite academic elite realignment of conference.  hey (side note) if you are headed for St Lawrence for a game wave when you go by as its another 2 1/2 hours beyond me and I am 4 hours out of Wilkes Barre (northeast)
so. please someone very slowly explain how this affects Kings or Scranton etc. and then even slower explain the reasons why at the D3 level any of this mean anything.  ???
whew....
The Lady Monarchs have returned after their Cruisin Tournament  believe that it was fun (side note) that horrible plane crash in Miami kept their cruise ship in port for first two days so cruise was shortened.  Prayers for the familys that lost love ones in that crash.  Two members made the all tournament team Kaitlin and Beth   .. proud of the entire team,  its a team effort when two get to shine. ;)

A Very Happy New Year to all of you here at the post.
See you in the stands next home game   Go Monarchs
