Bob--No need fo alarm....I just know someone who knows someone.....What is your take on the game?

roy_a

Scranton wins big....76-58  It very well could have been a 25-30 pt victory as Scranton played its normal rotation of 10 players and Kings basically had their starters in through the entire game.

Taryn Mellody and Allison Matt each had 24....that's enough to win just about any game.

Cudos to Beth Jordan as she topped the 1000pt mark in the second half.

Actually Roy, the final score was Scranton 86 - King's 68.

Scranton had 10 players with 15 or more minutes while King's had seven players with 15 or more minutes.  Allison Matt played a heck of a game and was the best player on the floor.

Roy I don't under stand how you say it could have been a 30-point win as Scranton played its normal rotation....????  You could make that claim if Scranton played their deep reserves - kids who get little time -  for an extended period of time. But with both teams playing their normal rotations, I don't think you can make that claim.

That said, 18 points is still a significant margin. Scranton played a super game, so kudos to them.

Bob--right you are on both counts. I got home from the game and went by memory on the score and was off 10pts for both teams. Also, I did not use logic in my explanation.....I do feel that Scranton could have won by 25-30 pts but not because Scranton played its normal playeers..that makes no sense...I should have said that it appeared as though Scranton let up a few times and Kings never stopped trying....If Scranton kept the hammer down they may very well have won by my figure. I was in no way trying to put Kings down as I would never do such a thing and I have the utmost respect for them..see my prediction posts as this 8-7 team had me worried.

Roy:

No problem, was not insinuating you were trying to put King's down at all. Having read your posts for a while, I know that is not your style........so don't sweat it.

Here is kind of an odd fact about the game. King's 68 points is the most points Scranton has allowed this year.  Of course, Scranton's 86 points were the most allowed by King's this year too so that offsets that accomplishment.

I was also suprised to see that Scranton only made four three-pointers for the game. They shot so well from the outside it felt like they made more.  I guess a lot of those 15-17 footers just seemed like treys.

hoopchick

Hoopster - no one cares about Kraft's performance mainly because she plays for Drew and Drew is defecting!  How else can true basketball fans not find 9 three pointers an interesting if not amazing stat?  Defection is probably the same reason Courtney Cunningham wasn't player of the week last week.  Just about the same stats as Joyce, while playing the point and beating Joyce head to head mid-week on *their* floor.  But that's just my humble and admittedly biased opinion.

Now from off the soap box....Beth Jordan is an awesome player as well (as is Rachel Joyce - I wasn't trying to take her down, she had a monster week) and I'm excited but not surprised to learn she'll be joing the 1,000 point club.  Congrats to Jordan and Kraft both.

Bob, Kings is the best looking team with 8 losses I've seen in a long time. They have some young kids and with a new coach & new system this is what you usually get...an adjustment period. Roy & I were talking last week & both of felt that if the stars were indeed lined up in a certain format, then Kings certainly had a chance. On the flip side, Taryn was Taryn & Allison is currently on fire. The other kids just do their jobs night in & night out & it's great to see them get the minutes they have. By the way, how about Roy's call on B.Jordans B-day...talk about adding a few points to the over/under line. I'm telling you, Coach Strong has informants working OT this year. Should be a great push for those 4 spots in the next few weeks.

MacNThrees

At least D3hoops recognized Cunningham by naming her to the Team of the Week.  Not too often do Drew players get recognition on that level.  Maybe Drew is turning the corner?

Too bad for the more-holy-than-thou schools which are leaving the MAC. It's a great competitive conference and has always had the reputation of being one of the toughest in the country. I think there's a certain prestige that goes along with that and 10 years from now a player can say they were part of that mix. Ever notice how MAC teams generally beat NJAC schools despite the gross disparity in enrollment size ? This year, the MAC may be tougher than it's ever been !  While Kings and DeSales may no longer be considered Top 25 teams, they are still very good programs and finally after all these years, other teams like Drew and FDU can play with anyone. D-Valley is also having a great season. In the Commonwealth, Moravian, Albright, Messiah, Widner, Susquehanna, and Juniata are all having their best seasons in years. On the flip side, what's the story with Lyco ?  Last year they had a full roster of 14 players. This year they have only 8 and half of them are freshmen ?  I know there's been a lot of press on the football forum about the school and their ability to attract talent, however, in this case it seems more of an issue about retaining their players once they have them.

Hey, Sportsfan, i couldn't agree with you more, & i was going to post that thought, then read yours'.   Defectors DO NOT rule in my book, either from an individual team, or hot shots starting a new league.   I sincerely will miss Drew, even tho they won last week on the Aggie court.  I also totally agree with the strenght of the MAC, & truly see no great reason for the start-up "Cerebral League" with attendance not the best to begin with, & those "smart" schools so scattered.  Thanks, Hoopchick, for drawing to my attention that Rachel was MAC player of the week last week.  i usually dwell in the house of statistics :)  GO DEL VAL!!!!!

So Roy give up your informant ;)
The truth is that Coach Strong does not nor ever will have the inside track on the Jordans.
I however do  I am Beth Jordan's Mom
Roy and I write to each other and I mentioned it was Beth's birthday
with the interesting fact that Beth's sister Kate, playing for the University of Sciences in Philadelphia also scored her 1000 career point on her 22nd birthday.
I did not reveal who ADK was because I did not want to change the writings at this site... I coached for years so I always consider the source when I read anything about Beth.
She is a senior headed for real life so I only want her to enjoy her remaining season and to come away with great friends and great memories.
I knew she was the real deal the day she was born.   Thank you for all the praise of my little girl  but don't hold back on my account if she doesn't play well let me know   8)

Adk..I was not going to give you up....but I'm glad you revealed your identity to all. It has to be the most ironic story that both your daughters scored their 1000 pt on their 22nd birthday??????  Sorry the weather did not allow you to see the moment though..

How games may play out tomorrow...Drew @ Wilkes, the Lady Rangers by 19. Lyco @ Del.Val...Kate's girls by 17. FDU @ Kings...the Lady Monarchs by 15 and Scranton @ Desales...the Lady Royals by 14.

adkfan

Hey Pat... how come not a single bit on two girls in the Scranton v Kings game having scored their 1000 career point... I am not talking about in "posting up" I am talking front page news....
Just look at the numbers from the people that talk on the MAC posting up..
MAC Girls belong on an occassional front page.... Toughest league thus far..
meaning each and every team comes to play.. no shoo ins in The MAC

What did you say Saratoga,  17 points?  It was an 18 point spread with the Aggies playing without starting point guard, Shannon O'Neil.  Lyco never lets their guard (no pun intended) down & they came within 9 during the final 10 minutes or so.  It will be a tough week for the Aggies, sooo, GO DEL VAL!!!!!
