Regional rankings are finally out and with them comes plenty of upheaval around the country. What do the rankings really mean? What teams should everyone be watching this week? Who is jockeying to lock up their conference's regular season title?

First, Happy "Heart" Day to everyone here at the site!  Just wanted to publicly say how very pleased I am with the progression of this year's Delaware Valley University's Lady's Team.  With all our Freshman, we had a shaky start at the beginning of the season, but led by our irreplaceable Seniors, Eireann Anastasi and Kelsey Kilpatrick plus our coaching staff led by Coach Hogan, the Team fought hard and improved and will now be in the play-offs!  Just wanted to give them a sincere shout-out!!!

kate

Hey, our Aggies took FDU to overtime last night.  Four points, just a four point loss.  You played one heck of a game, Del Val - hope your heads are held high this morning!!!

sp0rtsfan

What's up with FDU's decimated roster that started the season with 12 and now only has 6 on the court ? 4 of the starters played the entire 45 minutes last night....While injuries are always expected, I don't think that's the entire reason for the short bench.

Bill, any insight ?

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

The final days of the regular season are here. Results of games across the country are affecting other teams not even playing. How will it all shake out and how does one result affect another?

Thursday night on Hoopsville, Dave McHugh gives you the insight you need to know how the NCAA Tournament brackets are already taking shape. Dave will talk to many coaches around the country who are looking to lock up automatic bids, securing at-large opportunities, or knowingly playing for the postseason lives. Dave will even make sure you better understand the selection criteria and how something like the Strength of Schedule helps or hurts teams.

Hoopsville hits the air at 7pm ET. You can tune in below.

Guests include (in order of appearance)
- Michele Durand, No. 10 Ohio Northern women's coach
- Fred Richter, DeSales women's coach
- Warren Caruso, Husson men's coach
- Zach Frilen, No. 15 Lancaster Bible men's coach
- Todd Raridon, No. 11 North Central (Ill.) men's coach
- Marcus Kahn (Mary Washington) or Andy Sachs (Salisbury), CAC men's semifinal winner
- Matt Snyder, Strength of Schedule/Numbers guru

All I'm at liberty to say right now is that there was an injury, and 3 students who left school. 2 of those students were sisters, who transferred to another college when a relative of theirs was named to the coaching staff.  Yes, it's left us in a bit of a bind.

What has me really ticked was our conference coaches selection for player of the year. No disrespect is mean towards the young woman from Del Val, but the other coach(es) who dislike FDU/Coach Mitchell should be embarrassed by their lack of votes for Shalette Brown. It's one thing to be angry/upset with FDU and/or Coach Mitchell, but to hold out votes for a player is ridiculous. Shalette is one of the top players in the nation - not just the little ol' Freedom Conference. Total stats, team impact, WAR (if there is one for hoops), the "eye test", however you slice it, it's just not even a contest.

Sorry for the rant. I know it sounds like sour grapes. We're going to make a strong push to go back to accountable voting in the conference. This way, the coward(s) who vote with a vendetta in the future won't have the luxury of lurking in anonymity.

Pretty strong words and damning accusations... I sure hope you have proof to back up the statements. I wouldn't want to think this was just your opinion you are turning into a blanket statement and accusing coaches of something if you don't have actual proof of collusion, conspiracy, and actual intent.

Dave

Yes, I know it comes off like I am angry - which I am about it. It's just one person's opinion, though. However, I do honestly believe there is a coach or two out there that made this a vote against our coach, rather than a vote for another player.

Sorry for the bad formatting...but I'm trying to show that player #1 had a better overall year ( leading the nation in double/doubles), for a team that went 20-6. Player #2 had a nice season, for a team that went 13-13.

Just using this forum as a place to vent. Nothing that can be done now, other than have coaches actually have their votes be made public to the rest of the league. I strongly believe there is a bias present.

I just realized I posted overall stats, not just in-conference. If anyone chooses to sort for just conference, the numbers are extremely similar. Sorry about that!

Bill:

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but in a few minutes Kate is going to wake up, pour a cup of coffee & sit down at her computer to read up on her beloved D3 news.

When she sees what you've just written...there will be no joy in mudville.

In fact, the wrath of Kate may already be in motion.

Beware! :)

saratoga

Yes, I'm well aware ;)

If I must be smited for my opinion, so be it.

Bill, I absolutely wouldn't "smite" you - as a matter of fact, you KNOW how much I love Del Val and Eireann, but when Sp0rtsfan was asking about the depletion of the FDU bench, I was honestly thinking who needs a bench when you have Shalette !!!  That's another great thing about d3 sports, we can say honestly that we know and appreciate our players, and as much as we love Eireann and her many accomplishments at DVU, we also commend Shalette, totally!  Good luck tomorrow!

bill

Congrats to FDU today...going on the road for the 4-peat. Probably not going to host this year (and I don't think we deserve to)...maybe somewhere in Eastern PA?

Congrats to the Lady Devils...Even with army of only 6, their tenacious D and that huge chip on their shoulder will continue to make them an extremely dangerous opponent going forward..

bill

Very happy with the short trip to Hoboken!  It's been fun seeing all the different teams from across the country these past few years....  Good luck to the Devils vs. Suny-Geneseo (again. we faced them last year up at Tufts....)
