Scranton 17, Drew 9   10:30 left in 1st:  (Mellody 11 points already).

WLCALUM83

#602
Halftime:  Scranton 42, Drew 33.  (Mellody--24 pts.-- already above her scoring average).

(Scranton announcer keeps harping on how quiet it's been in the building--"Drew's library is noisier than this.")  ::)

WLCALUM83

Drew 44, Scranton 43-- :o  17 minutes left in second half:

WLCALUM83

Scranton 56, Drew 52--10 minutes left, 2nd half:

WLCALUM83

Final:  Scranton 81, Drew 66.  (Mellody ties for 2nd for most points scored in a women's game by a Scranton player--37 points. After Drew got the lead early in 2nd half, she got her shooting eye back and the Lady Royals pulled away.)

(Back to the NathCon board for my usual postings).  :) ;) :D ;D :) ;) :D ;D

Congrats to Taryn Mellody on a career high 37pts against Drew.....

Since there were a few upsets since last weeks poll, my guess as to how the Top 12 will wash out: 1.Bowdoin...still winning, why not. 2.Rochester...still winning as well, they move up one. 3.Hope...as much as I would love to see the Lady Royals move up one more...can't see certain voters dropping Hope 2 spots. 4.Scranton...on a roll as well...but, they remain in the 4 spot. 5.Sth.Maine...same situation as Scranton...winning but no place else to go this week. 6.Messiah...they continue to roll & are able to move a little. 7.HowardPayne...undefeated & either the best #7 in some time or untested & still some questions. 8.Depauw...slight upset last week & seem to have recovered nicely. 9.Calvin...Big win at Hope, some say an upset...others not so sure. 10.Chicago...best start in a while...they have to move into the top 10 for the time being at least. 11.Wilmington...winning as well & they just knocked off BW. 12.BaldwinWallace...seem to be the biggest loser of dropped spots right now...still a very good team that will be around all season. As far as Muhlenberg...after the thumping they took from McDaniel at home...they will be fortunate to remain in the top 25...only thing that may save them right now is the win right after the loss at JohnsHopkins...my guess #24.

FDU definitely put the "smack down" on DVC tonight, at home no less by an 82 - 54 score - at least i think that's what it was - after awhile, i couldn't look.  FDU played very hard with a squad of just 8 people, & ya gotta hand it to em.

Somehow, i get the feeling that the Scranton posters are just biding their time til next season's new beginning in the Landmark.  Whatever - but Saturday, one of your true tests in the MAC is coming - DeSales has been on a roll - weather permitting, we'll head to Williamsport for the Aggie-Lyco game, but that other one should be interesting :)!

Kate--what do you mean some of the Scranton posters are biding their time 'till next season?

Kate: There really isn't much to say when the team you follow generally has teams put away in deep freeze by halftime. From the players perspective, it really does get difficult at times staying focused when you are up by 30 points with 15 minutes left in the game. The passes arn't as crisp, the cuts not quite as sharp & shot selection sometimes gets questionable. On the other hand, many of the other teams have much more parity with each other so the players tend to stay more involved in those games because there is an opportunity to get a W. The Lady Royals have a bulls-eye on their backs that gets bigger with each game & their margin for error keeps getting smaller. In some respects, I think it can get difficult at times blowing 6 straight teams out then having a pretty tough team to play followed by 3 more easy wins followed up by another tough game. It's like you want to concentrate all the time after playing a good team...but, next thing you know...you're up 30 & thinking of other things. I'm sure Desales will be ready...if they ever want to get an NCAA bid they better be, but the Lady Royals have been there, they've played the best in the nation & I'm pretty sure they'll be ready as well. You don't get to as many Final Fours as they have or Elite 8's or Sweet 16's without being confident in your own ability & getting it done some way, some how. Let's face it, every team wants to beat Scranton at least once every four years & for many, that would equate to a successful season even if that school only won 5 games all year. I'm sure the Bowdoin kids were down a little last night after their streak came to an end...but guess what, the sun still came up this morning & I bet they all went to classes today and they'll lace them up again this weekend...it still is just a game...some teams are just really, really good at what they do...the Lady Royals are one of those special teams.

Roy, i just meant that you guys were especially quite of late, and Saratoga, i repete, i will certainly miss your posts!  Can't believe any of the FDU posters didn't come on here with glee the other night.   It's truly amazing that Bowdoin lost to a team with a total school population of 125, i believe if i read that right.  We saw Bowdoin, Southern Maine, and Eastern Connecticut years ago when the regionals were at King's & they were incredible.

Kate--Like Saratoga mentioned it is a ho hum part of the schedule right now. There sure looks like a lot more excitement in the New England area and the UAA than around here. You are absolutely right about this Saturdays' game though. Desales and Scranton might be very interesting. Coach Richter is one of the best coaches in D3 and they have the talent to make it a fun one.

At this point in the season has anyone seen any real surprises? I am pleased to see that Kings may have finally turned the corner as it appears they are playing as a team. What about Rookie of the year, any speculation as to which frosh is the leading candidate?  I just perused the Mac/Freedom stats and the girl from DelVal has some nice numbers. Also, take a peak at the leading scorers, Taryn Mellody is #4, which is impressive, however, then compare the minutes played with the top 3. The 3 ahead of her average between 31-35 min per game and Taryn averages only 23 min. I know I'm a homer but that is impressive....

Kate

Are there any other FDU posters besides me? I lurk more than post, but what's there to brag about...OK, so we won one game at Del Val, which is a great step for a young team, but we haven't won anything yet!
I'll have a lot more glee  ;) if we make the playoffs and/or win them...
