Sounds Great to me, Old Ends  ;) - Del Val came from behind tonight to beat a hot-shooting Centenary team, 83 -77.  What a game - congratulations to the Aggies!

Kate:
How good is Brittney Zimmerman for Del Val?  12-13 from the FT line on the road against a much improved Centenary squad.  Jackie Shunkwiler is coming along nicely as well.  Hope the weather doesn't stop you from heading south on Wed. for the DVC-Alvernia match-up.  Alvernia knocked off the Mules tonight.  That's a great win for them.

Hello, Tribehoops!  We most certainly are very lucky to have Brittney, especially after losing our B.B. for the year!  i hope she doesn't mind being referred to as B.B.  :)  Looking at the printout of the box score from last night, we could see that it was definitely a TEAM effort - everyone stepped up.  We were there, but so excited that we couldn't have cited stats if ya payed us  :D  Yes, we're hoping, too that the weather doesn't get that bad that it keeps us in Easton.  Alvernia is the real deal, no two ways about it.  But, no team was more real last night, on the road, with three injured players, than our own Delaware Valley College Aggies!!!  Go Del Val!!!

Sorry for the double here, but twenty points off the bench was a welcome stat as well as the others in last night's box score.

If anyone's interested:

Tonight's FDU/Eastern game @ FDU has been postponed to tomorrow(weather). The games will be at 6&8....

Hello, Bill - nice to see your name on the post - haven't seen it for awhile.  i'm sure many people are very relieved that the Eastern/FDU game is postponed til tomorrow night, as we here in Easton are totally glad that the Aggie/Alvernia game is rescheduled for tomorrow.

Lycoming at Messiah postponed until tomorrow (Thursday, January 29) at 6:00 p.m.

The big three of Alvernia, Kelli McIntyre, Allison Toczylowski, & Alex Velazquez did Del Val in tonight, 78/71.  Del Val held a lead in the second half, but those big girls had their way under the basket.  i see that Wilkes knocked off King's tonight in OT - amazing.  Back to the DVC game - better days are coming, but those games are getting fewer & fewer.  Go DEL VAL!!!

Messiah smoked Lycoming this evening 68-39.  Year after year Coach Miller and staff seem to fit the pieces together nicely.  Just wanted to let the Falcons know they have a least one fan that reads this thread. :)

Good Health, Good "D" and Good Luck Messiah.

Speaking of Messiah.... I was wondering what people think are they that good or is the MACC that bad?  Through the first half of the league they've won each game by an average of 20+ closing win being 17 points.   This after losing four starters.

Next season (09-10) Alvernia will be in the Commonwealth half of the MAC.  They are a young, extremely competitive team.  Personally, i like all the other half of the MAC, in particular, the Pride, coached by DVC's own All-American, Alisa DiBonaventura.  i'd bet that Messiah will have more to contend with as the new b'ball year gets underway.  Competition makes it fun, yeh, right  :'(

According to the Massey ratings (see below link). The MAC is rated 22'nd out of the 53 DIV III conferences. Not particularly a strong conference on either side as Massey rates the MAC (Freedom & Commonwealth) as 1.

Is Messiah that good? Not sure if they can duplicate last years run but they are definitely a top 25 team. So far this year both of their losses came on the road. The first at Kean (Rated #1 at the time) by 9 when Berutii (All-American) was still playing for Kean. She was injured in Kean's loss to Mary Washington just after their Messiah game. Messiah's second loss was on the road at DeSales (tough place for any team to win). The Falcons where leading by 10 at halftime. LeighAnn Burke (All-American) went ballistic in the second half putting up 25 points as DeSales beat the Falcons by 6.  I think the Falcons are more than capable of beating both teams if they meet in the NCAA's, especially if it on their home or neutral court.

What I like about this years team is they have improved their rebounding immensely. That has always been an issue in prior years. In addition, they have at least 7 or 8 players that can put up double digits any given night. They continue to play tough team defense and they shoot the ball extremely well in a team oriented offense.  The only shortfall I see is their depth with only 10 players. Hopefully fatigue will not be a factor down the home stretch as the Falcons are well conditioned.

I honestly thought Lebanon Valley would be the team to beat but from the results so far this season they seem to be a year away. LVC, Albright, Widener & Lycoming are capable of upsetting the Falcons but I highly doubt it if Messiah is on their game. The Falcons opening season win at York keeps looking more and more impressive as the Spartans have run off 17 straight wins and are now ranked 13th in D3hoops.

Lastly I think a lot of it has to do with attitude. The Falcons expect to win the conference every year and participate in the NCAA's.  Most all other teams in the conference hope to do the same.

Everyone on here knows, i'm sure, that Cedar Crest beat Centenary in OT last night lll/l04, and Wilkes beat King's in 2OT something like 65/61 - yes, i realize that  CC & C are in the CSAC, but is that not incredible?  That's what so cool about these leagues, not only is the level of play getting better by leaps & bounds, but it's so exciting to not know the outcome of a game when you're headed into that gym.  All that said, please play hard tomorrow, DVC - i know you always do, & last night was a tough one, but GO AGGIES!!!

Kate:
Alvernia did a great job exploiting the Aggies weaknesses in the post.  Kim and Brittany can only do so much to keep Del Val in games.  I wish it was as simple as bringing in a 6-footer or two next season to fix the problem.  Bigs that can play go higher than d3 in many cases.  When you get some...count your lucky stars.  DVC had a 6-3 kid "locked" for this the 08-09 season, but her parents and the economy dictated a move to a d2 school nearer her home.  This occurred in late August.  So, even when you've spent hours and hours recruiting to fill voids there are NO done deals until you see them in uniform in warm-ups.  Trust me the staff is out every night looking for "size"...and in Del Val's case SIZE MATTERS for next season.
