Finalfour..You make some very good points but I hope you see the subjectivity of these awards and of the posts sometimes? I would not be able to comment too much on the Comm side as I only saw a handful of their games this year, but as for the Freedom side..I understand and agree that Coach Richter got a great deal out of his team, but do not dismiss Coach Strong because he has better players. A coach with better players who wins many games can still be a valid coach of the year.As far as Player of the year, I am not so sure that you are correct when you say it is given to the player of does the most for their team. That is where subjectivity comes into play, one voter may vote for the best player and another for an mvp type of award. So you have a great deal of subjectivity on criteria as well as on the actual player. About Comm posters prefer not to dissect and rip into players/coaches. I am curious since that was an answer to my question: have you seen any of my posts that have been too negative or where I have ripped into a coach or a player? I do not mean to be devisive I would like to know so that I can correct it if I am guilty.

FinalFour: It's not quite as easy as you make it appear. Usually, the POY has generally been the player that racks up the big offensive numbers & coaches get all excited about that stuff. Player of the Year should be about the person who has done the most to get her team wherever they might be & Defense,Rebounds, Assists, & Minutes played should ALL be taken into account. I've seen a ton of games each year & I still shake my head at "coaches" that leave kids in the game for 37 minutes just racking up point after point against other kids that simply are 2-3 years behind in talent. This is proving what? And regarding your last inference that perhaps Coach Strong is not deserving of his award because "they won it again"...let me paraphrase something I heard from Mike Krzyzewski a number of years ago at a basketball clinic. When asked if it "Got any Easier" with all his league titles & championships his response was, it's only EASY if you are willing to accept mediocrity as your standard. The fact that I and everyone of my players right down to my  team managers fully EXPECT to win & do so each year is the MOST DIFFICULT task you can ask of yourself. It's far easier to have 1 good year out of 4 than to be there each of those 4 years...but, I wouldn't want it any other way. I think it's pretty safe to say you can include Coach Strong as a member of that line of thinking as well. To have your program at that level each year be it D-I or D-III is to be admired...those who find fault with that would probably be the ones very happy to have a good team once every 4 years...pressure gets to some people...others thrive off it. Is it easier to have a bulls-eye on you EVERY game you play, or be the underachieving .500 club that sneaks up on teams twice a season? It's a question I want to know when I'm looking for someone to fill a vacancy...action vs. complacency...who do you want on your team?

Final Four, we ALL love going to the games, and i sure hope that i'm not guilty of tearing into players or whole teams - coaches & refs, sometimes :), but not players.  Certainly the very best to Messiah & Scranton representing the best league in the U.S. for my money.

Final Four, please read ALL my posts and notice that I have never ripped into a player!
But the Com coaches do deserved to be ripped into.  One of their peers goes 39-3 over three years and is never voted COY.  Come on, what world are you living in?  Evnen if the Albright coach did a good job, it has to be about results at some point.  I saw this stuff playing sports in high school and hate it.  But this is college, and you expect better.  Results matter rather than effort, or emphathy, or injuries, or anything else.
Also, please enlighten this board as to which teams are having "DI players falling into their laps"?  I would be very curious to know that.

Saratoga:

Where re you getting your information from???

"just wish the morons at Kings & Wilkes & FDU could put aside their pettiness & give it to the REAL Coach..."

Former Falcon

I certianly never meant to imply, or say, that Applegate was not a great player.  She is! BUT  I also think that truly amazing players can be overlooked when they play for a solid team.  Just because Cook plays with other girls who can hold their own when she is out of the game does not make her any less deserving of the award.

We could go on and on for days about this.  The fact is, the coaches could vote ten different times and get different results each time! It is all their opinion! I just wanted to make sure that in some public format Eli got "her props"!"  She is an amazing player and will be SORELY missed next year! Please understand that I was not trying to discount Applegate's success! CONGRATS to her! And, yes, I am a little biased being a former Messiah player -- but we are all biased in one way or another!

So, all that said -- CONGRATS to the winners.. . .but CONGRATS to Coach Miller AND ELI and THE LADY FALCONS!

Bob: That reference as my post implies, is regarding the mens side of COY honors. The only way the voting could have gone is with those 3 coaches being unable to face reality & totally overlooking the coach who was more than deserving. Source: someone very much in the know.

finalfour

Former Falcon: I appreciate your comments about Eli Cook, I agree she is a good player.  It just seemed at first you were discounting the efforts and skills of Applegate.  And you have a right to be biased being from Messiah.

hoopmanic: the team who had a DI player fall into their laps is Messiah (Nikki Lobach) is a transfer from Central Connecticut.

saratoga

FinalFour: The player you've referred to is a transfer from Binghamton.

hoopmanic1

Final Four, you are right about Niki Loback, but that doesn't happen very often.
And that can happen at any school.  But bad news for you and rest of the Com Conference, I hear Messiah is bringing in transfers from Maryland, PennState, and Rutgers next year to make up for the COY slight :)
GO MEN and WOMEN FALCONS on Friday!

Del Val, you are on my mind & in my heart today after reading the teams in the ECAC Southern  Region Tournament  -  now, just gotta say Go DeSales in your game with Dickinson.  You will probably wind up playing Johns Hopkins on Saturday.  Miss ya already, Aggies.

kate

Sorry for the double post, but good luck to FDU playing in the ECAC, as well, against Kean i think.  The MAC is very much alive & well.

Saratoga:

First off, I would absolutely have voted for Danzig if I had a vote. And if I had to pick someone second it would have been Andrejko, considering he took a team that was picked sixth by these same coaches in the pre-season poll and finished tied for first in the regular-season.  King's was picked to finish behind Del-Val, so such low expectations on the part of the league's coaches should have warranted some consideration.

Second, your source is wrong, at least on one count.  That I know for certain due to a face-to-face conversation with "The Chosen One".  Plus, your source would have no way of knowing who voted for who since the votes are not released to anyone. Not even the coaches know who voted for who, unless of course they tell each other in conversation. It is funny how all these "sources" exist and how much misinformation comes from certain posters.

Personally, I would like to see all that stuff (voting results) distributed to coaches and administrators as it would make people a bit more accountable.  I agree it is a flawed system. But know that at least part of your information is off, so maybe that means even more of it is off too.  Rumor/speculation does not equal fact and that is what your source is providing you.

And if you think that vote was bad, try to top the King's softball coach who has won a record six straight Freedom titles and has "one" Coach of the Year" award to her credit.

saratoga

Bob: Trust me...coaches talk, they know whats going on. And some coaches are pretty good golfing buddies so the friendships extend beyond the court. Any coach, be it Carl or the Kings softball coach that develops the kids & keeps them focused through a multitude of things they have no control of & still wins championships...deserve the honor. Right now Carl could care less...his team wins the Freedom in dramatic fashon on Sat. afternoon & that evening he's able to make it down to Bucknell to see his dads # retired...all things considered, a pretty memorable day. Time to move on. By the way, glad to hear Carl would have had your vote as a SID.

Interesting change in format this year: sub-regional winners don't play each other in the 3rd round but instead, crossover to play the other region. so if they win out, messiah-scranton will be in the 4th round unlike last year's format where they played in the 3rd round.

but 1st, the royals have to get by marymount who are on a roll.
