  FYI,
Video of Rochester-Medaille currently available on d3hoops.com-the winner is the next opponent of the Scranton-Gwynedd Mercy winner.

Rochester 51-36 with 7:43 to go. someone has 9 3s for rochester.

gym looks like they're playing in a swimming pool-so many feet below the stands. hope they don't get chosen for the sectional.

kate

Heart Attack City, Scranton, but congratulations on your 80 - 72 win over GMC!

thanks kate-ur right: 21 pt lead down to 3; missing the killer instinct that coach strong mentions frequently.
   freedom teams appreciate ur enthusiasm.

Just curious for a general opinion on who is going to host the Scranton sectionals...

I was looking at some things that I'm sure the NCAA takes into consideration and Scranton's, Baldwin-Wallace's and Williams' regions all hosted last year (with Scranton being an actual host)... but not Rochester's.  On top of that, Rochester is less total travel miles than any of the other three schools.

Is it just me, or does it look like a cold Parade Day weekend in Rochester, NY is in our near future?  :-\

goladyroyals..I beleive that you are correct. Had Messiah won their game we may have been in a better position as Messiah is south of Scranton and we therefore would have been more centrally located. However,, we syill has a reasonable shot.

As for the game vs G.Mercy this evening...Mellody and Matt are quite a duo...We were up by 21 and then????Hard to say really, perhaps a bit of lethargy coupled with some outstanding shooting from the Griffins..

4 more wins...

There is absolutely NO WAY Rochester should be able to host this next round of games based on 2 pretty important factors...first, their gym is a pathetic joke and Scranton is ranked higher based on if nothing else...their overall record. That said...this is the NCAA & NEVER expect a rational/common-sense decision at this time of the year. Actually, Rochester should not have even hosted this sectional it's just that Medialle's gym is even worse than theirs. So committee, use a little common-sense & place this next round where close to 3,000 will get to see these games in a great facility...name the UofS host & all teams will be happy with a St.Patrick's weekend in the Friendly City.

I celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17. What day is it celebrated in Scranton?

The women's committee seems pretty committed to having sectional host regions rotate whenever possible. It would be more likely that Rochester would host, if it put in for the bid.

saratoga -

With all due respect, I think Rochester has a great chance at hosting not only because of the two reasons I mentioned before - location and who hosted the sectionals last year - but also because Rochester hosted the sectionals in the 2002-03 season.  Because of that, you can't say that their gym isn't worthy of hosting because the NCAA obviously felt that three years ago, it was.  Distance-wise, Scranton is the next best pick by a good 200 miles. I really don't think Balwin-Wallace or Williams have a shot at hosting.  The NCAA has shown in the past that their main initiative with D3 is saving/making money, not giving the best teams what they deserve.  Since Rochester requires the least amount of traveling for all three schools, the NCAA may see that and give it to them because the most fans will be able to get there from each school.  I highly doubt they know about Parade Day (March 11th).  Don't get me wrong, I think Scranton deserves it more than anyone else, and I would be beyond thrilled if the Long Center is chosen, but we can only hope that the NCAA will see it the same way.

Pat, although the normal world celebrates St Patricks Day on the 17th, Scranton, however, does it a week earlier?????? This area is often referred to as the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area, thus Scarnton has a parade and a reason for the alcoholics to celebrate a week early and then the gala heads to Wilkes Barre the following weekend....

Pat, how about a prediction on who will host?

saratoga

Yes, Rochester has hosted in the past...however, anyone that has either played or watched a game there will tell you the gym is a dump...and that's putting it mildly. I don't doubt for a minute that the games will go there...it's just that why do teams bust all year to to play tough schedules & come away with not one other team in the country having a better record only to lose a host site to a team with 7 losses? When a team from whatever region puts together numbers like the Lady Royals, has a fantastic facility & will put at least 2,500 fans into the games why should that school be penalized because of one reason..."geograpic rotation"? Win a few more games...get a real gym & make a case...until then, put the games in the best facility at the school with the best record. And the reason Pat for the parade in Scranton next Sat. is because the Friendly City puts on one of the largest in the country...and many of the floats & marching pipers are commited to NYC on the 17th. Last years estimate of 100,000 people at the parade will be shattered if the projected temps. that weekend hit 60 degrees.

Congratulations to the Messiah Falcons on an excellent season.  Williams was just unconscious from behind the arch and earned a hard fought "W".  The best of luck to Scranton and their fans.

RoyalGator

Here is a couple of notes of how the Royals have faced up to these opponents.

Team                      Conference(Reg)   Last Game    Score       All-Time Record
Williams:   23-5      NESCAC(3rd)      11/20/2004   L-58-62        0-1
Rochester:20-7      UAA(3rd)             3/8/2003       L-45-59        0-2
Bald.-Wall:26-4      OAC(1st)            12/22/2005   W-59-49       1-0

Baldwin-Wallace defeated Rochester 53-39 on 11/19/05 was the only time one of these teams played against each other except when Scranton played BW.

Good Luck to all the participants!!  and GO ROYALS!!!
