Kate,

I have been quite for 2 reasons:1--out of town and 2--the announcement does not really matter. I do not think many, if any D3 womens bb teams are money makers for their respective schools. That said the moves are to align the school with " like minded schools " my take means that they will make more money by doing so. Otherwise it would make no sense. Currently many of the students from the UOS that are not local come from the Philly/Jersey areas. They will still come, the alignment with other schools should enlarge the student population hence the school will make money money.

Now about the rivalries with Desales and Kings....they will certainly be missed. But, i'll imagine we will still play them from time to time.

About the season..We are only 6 days away..I'll let you know how the Lady Royals look later today as I will be catching there scrimmage at noon.

kate

Roy, i'm sorry, but it does matter.  i especially find the "like minded" phrase particularly obnoxious.  Moravian College is a mere five miles from my house, & you can not tell me that they are "above" any other college student anywhere.  This whole process has really hit a nerve with me - one note, i see how it could open up recruiting possibilities for Coach Strong - certainly other than CUA, Scranton should look pretty darn good in that league.  i will miss you as a poster.  Stay safe to the team & yourself on those trips to D. C. & Maryland.

Kate--don't take offense to the stated position. Most schools use similiar verbage when discussing their respective affiliations.

Scranton looked okay during todays scrimmage..it is always difficult to gauge  where a team is at based on them. But my gut tells me we are prepared to start..

ronk

    Roy_a,
Can you award a most improved from the returnees on the basis of a single scrimmage? and how did the newcomers look, including Marisa?

roy_a

Ronk--Like you say for a single scrimmage...I would say thus far the most improved would be Tammy Waiters. Her passing was always great she just used to shoot too often. So far the passing is still great and she is more in tune with the offense. Newcomers..Only 3 on the team, apart from Marissa, Ryan Mooney looks good as at pt, the Jr transfer Claire Davis looked okay. Erin Healeys' little sister is the 3rd, she did not play as she is ill, however, I heard that she will be a valueable addition. Regarding Marissa, it was great to see her onthe court. Coach Strong only played her during the 3rd 20 min session for about 5-7 min or so. She did, however, score 3pts and pull down a couple of rebounds.

Ronk, any chance you played in '85?

ronk

Roy_a,
thanks for the women's update. did you happen to see the men's team, also?
happen to be from a generation before '85 - the early 60s, and then only from the perspective of the freshman team. It was a good year, however, watching our arguably all-time best, Bill Witaconis.

Ronk--No idea how the men look this season. I would say I am an expert on the womens team and a novice about the mens team.

It's nice to see Delaware Valley College right up there behind Scranton & DeSales in the 2006 MAC pre-season poll.  It would be GREAT to actually do it too :)!  Hurry up Friday!

saratoga

The MAC Coaches Poll is out...BIG surprise, the Lady Royals of the UofS are #1...followed by,2). Desales 3). Del.Val. 4). Drew 5). Kings 6). FDU. 7). Wilkes and residing in the basement yet again at # 8). Lyco. Pretty hard to disagree with any of those selection placements. I did hear that the Lady Royals have not looked that sharp thus far & had better be ready for a veteran Rochester team that is lying in wait.

Before everything gets crazy here at the post, i'd just like to commend Matt Levy, Del Val's Sport's Information Director, & everyone down at the school for the great job done with the college web site.  It's incredibly current & super easy to move around.  Thanks, again, Matt - & GO DEL VAL!!!

kate

Very proud of the Aggies today with an 88 - 71 opening day win against a very good Cortland State team.  Go Del Val!!!

WOW!!  18 point loss... Anyone go to that game?

Catholic coming to town on Sat, should make it an even more intersting game now..

saratoga

Hi Roy & other Lady Royal fans: The word I received from someone with a pretty good pulse on things at the Long Center last week was that exactly what happened on Sat. in Rochester would most certainly take place. All I can say is with 4 starters back that type of start really is unacceptable. I know that in the past two seasons the Lady Royals have lost either  their 1st. or 2nd. games of the season & then went undefeated the rest of the way to the Final Four...but, this type of thrashing looks like they were totally unprepared from top to bottom. The bad part of this is if both Scranton & Rochester keep winning...chances are very good that Rochester would host this years Sectional since Scranton has hosted the past two seasons. Congrats to Rochester...and Coach Strong and staff better get back to basics as I was told the Lady Royals looked like they never played the game before. If Scranton thought they had a bulls-eye on their backs prior to the start of the season...they should see how big it is now.
