BJ - DSU SID

So this is how you post a message.

Mr. Saratoga - Sorry to upset you and anyone else with my release.  I struggled for many hours after that game to write a politically correct recap of the game for those who could not attend (I guess I did bad job).  I always try to paint a picture so that those unable to see for themselves can re-live as best I saw it with a DeSales angle of course since most of my readers care about the Bulldogs the most.

I make it a habit to travel with the Bulldogs to every conference doubleheader (when able) and in my seven years I have never missed a Scranton twin billing.  With that being said, normally a Scranton win is followed by some parading thru the aisles, some high-fiving, some hugging and some smiling.  My "HUSH" comment was the best way I felt I could describe the mood in the Long Center following the final 15 seconds.  I saw lots of people looking at their neighbors in disbelief and saying such things as "Did that fantastic game really just end that way".

If you feel me to be inaccurate...I am sorry.  We'll have to agree to disagree.  I did not mean to offend anyone or disgrace either program.  All players who saw action and who cheered in that game gave everything they had.  Of course I am particularly close to the DeSales players (since I work there) so to see them overcome a devastating injury just three minutes into the game and watch the other players (many of which are freshmen) rally around her brought a tear to my eye.  Especially to do it against a team who has been to a Final Four or two and on the road.  Some young players had to grow up fast and they did just that.

Its a long season and this game in the grand scheme of things is just 1 of 14 each Freedom Conference team plays on the conference schedule.  They all count the same and the only thing at stake today was the right to list yourself first in the conference standings for a few days/weeks till the playoffs come and we all start over.  At least those four who earned playoff bids.

I am looking forward to at least one more match-up with the Lady Royals and if both teams are lucky enough and good enough, we'll see each other in the extra season one or two times.

Until than its Lycoming at home for the Bulldogs on Wednesday...we'll focus on them and figure out who we play on Saturday on Thursday morning.

Desales SID: You are correct in that you painted a very good picture for the Desales readers. The only problem I, as a Lady Royal fan had was that your report was just that, a bit too one dimensional. Factually accurate and inspiring...the only problem is that BOTH sides to the story were missing. This particular release would be perfect for the Desales website, as any spin you want can be applied. However, when this account is going National on the greatest Div.III site going...then the report can not for example tell the readers how Desales lost their top scorer to an injury 3 minutes into the game yet make NO mention of Scranton losing Tiffany Williams to an injury at almost the same time. She is only 6'1", clogs the middle, changes shot selection, is the Lady Royals leading rebounder, and 6th. in the Nation in blocked shots. You then describe all the things Desales accomplised in great detail and devote virtually nothing to the Lady Royals. I think my personal frustration & bias came when I read, "the entire Lady Bulldog lineup was terrific". Perhaps they were, but I also feel the Lady Royals also played their collective hearts out too and left everything they had out on the court. I guess I'm just a bit more used to reading a more balanced recap on this site that covers the high & lows for both teams and is not written for essentially one teams fan base. The Desales program is in great hands & those of us that follow the game expected nothing less than what transpired...especially in the last 3-4 minutes of the contest. The last game of the regular season at Desales is one that I'm sure is already circuled on the calender...my only suggestion...should Desales win that one, and you are doing the report for D-III Hoops, paint an overall picture of the game...and preferably, from both sides.

Scranton has the ability to report as well and did so. The nature of sports information is what it is, Saratoga.

Saratoga,

I saw the local news last nignt at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. and they only made reference to the Scranton player out of the lineup with an injury. Perhas you should send them an email to tell them that they gave an unfair portrayal that was not balanced. I know how fair you like to be, so if you need an email address, let me know and I will be glad to give it to you. I will be glad to help you and your crusade for rightousness in any way I can.

This board is nice and lively, so maybe I'll get good response to this...

I don't know what to do with my first-place women's vote this week in the top 25 poll...I think there are 7-8 worthy teams, with the likes of Howard Payne and Chicago in consideration for the first time. I'm sure the Scranton followers have plenty of thoughts on why I should put their team #1. Anyone out there think I should bump Messiah past them?

Pat,

Is this a situation of parity, or is it just that there is not much consitency out there amongs the top teams?   My vote is the consistency thing. I beleive Scranton has more talent than the last years squad, however, last years team would probably win such a hypothetical game.....However, they still have a chance to win it all......

Pat Coleman

I think every top team loses a game now and then. I look at the Top 10 and I don't see a single loss to a bad team in the group.

There isn't a Wash U-like dynasty right now, there is that. I'm OK with that as a fan. Would like to see some suspense to the season. :)

Congratulations to the Lady Royals once again...I think. Now if they can avoid tonights upset special, hopefully they'll be healthy again when the conference games start back on Wed's. I think there are just a great group of teams out there that on the proverbial "any given night" can do just that. Still a long way to go & many good teams waiting for their shot at the bulls-eye. Tonights game may be one of those. Scranton is playing a pretty good team with some very nice individual talent & on the road and coming on the heels of Sat's. battle with Desales...they better be ready or this will be one quick trip to the moutaintop.

I was just re-reading my last post about FDU, and I realized that it doesn't read the way I meant to say it...
I didn't mean to imply that there aren't any other FDU fans out there, or that we haven't won any important games!  I tried to say that every game is important, and that the team shouldn't rest on its laurels with a big conference road win, because they all have an impact on the standings.

Oh well - I feel a lot better after trying to clarify myself - thanks for the on-line therapy!

Scranton blasted at Mt.St.Mary's...69/49. The shortest stint at # has just taken place. From the sound of the game it seemed once again the Lady Royals had no rhythm to their offense...somewhat predictable though...they played a very athletic team that is putting it together while a veteran Lady Royal team seems to still be searching...why? This will give many teams a whole new perspective going down the stretch and some teams that normally are out of the game in the 1st. half may now be licking their chops. Bad game or the start of something Lady Royals fans just arn't used to? The upset special was unfortunately just that.

they played a very athletic team that is putting it together

Mt St Mary's roster has listed

2 seniors
3 juniors
7 freshman

Hmmm, interesting stuff. King's beat Mt. St. Mary's by 10 on a neutral site game in the title game of the Marymount Tip-Off Classic.  Scranton used a big second half to beat King's by 21 points just 10 days later.  Obviously weeks have passed sicne both games, but it just goes to show that you never know what is gonna happen, espcially on the road. And it doesn't matter where you are ranked now, only in March.

Kings clearly has the talent to play with Scranton...Palumbo is downright dangerous..Hochstuhl is looking very good and they have some very good athletes. The thing that will be in Scrantons' favor next week is that the game is home for Scranton
