I guess you're right...those waters that flow behind that bastion of higher education that is Kings Kollege...now that's your proverbial anglers paradise. Pass the mercury please.

I am planning on attending the Messiah/Westminster game tomorrow.  Unfortunately I am not very familiar with Westminster and was wondering if anyone would be willing to offer a breakdown of their team with some "keys to the game" or "items to watch for" tomorrow night.

Thanks!

Kate--I know you can't make it up on Sat but come on up Fri you will get to see 2 games for the price of 1..

On paper both Scranton and Mt St Marys should win, but.........Like they say the games are not played on paper.

Coach Whitten,
Care to share your thoughts on life as D1 asst coach in a bigtime program versus a DIII head coach. I know you're busy with the ACC tournament(congrats on the 1st round win today) and recruiting but if you got a few moments. Are you following the Mike Lonergan game plan hoping for a DI head coach job at a lower major?

Bryan Whitten

Ronk,
I'm at VCU and we're in the CAA, not the ACC, so more mid-major than major, but being a DI assistant has been a good experience.   The coaching aspect has been the same, basketball is basketball, the game doesn't really change.  Alot of what people run offensively and defensively is the same as what we played against at King's.  It's just that now we're facing a different athlete - bigger & quicker.  6'4" & 6'5" post players instead of 6'0" & 6'1" and 6'0" & 6'1" guards instead of 5'9" & 5'10".

The recruiting is one of the biggest differences. At D3, most of the recruiting is focused on seniors.  If a kid is good enough to be noticed as a soph, so to speak, she's probably going higher than D3.  At the DI level nowadays, most kids are deciding before their senior season starts.  We can start calling juniors in April, and from then until Sept is the big recruiting period.  Last June I was talking to a very good friend of mine, a D3 head coach, and we were talking about recruiting, and he said he hadn't done any since mid-April.  He had had his class locked up.  His recruing had ended and mine was just beginning again.  Scheduling is much different as well.  You can agree on a game and a date with an opponent, but until you have a signed contract in hand, you can't count on anything.  Yes, the Mike Lonergan game plan would be great to follow.  I do miss being a head coach and will hopefully get to be one again someday.

Hope that's informative.  If there is anything more specific you are interested in, please feel free to ask and I will be more than willing to answer what I can.  GO MAC!!!

Very sloppy 1st half by the Royals, however, at least they are out rebounding the Lightning.

Scranton 26 Lehman 18

Congratulations to Taryn Mellody on passing Kelly Halpin for 2nd in points

RoyalGator--If not for that sloppy start Scranton would have won by 35-40 points.

Th real excitement was the back and forth game between Mount Saint Marys and Hamilton. It was a barnburner right to the end with Hamilton winning by 3 and MSM shooting for the tie with seconds remaining...

If Scranton plays their game tomorrow night all should be well.....

Congrats to Moravian and King's women for making it to the ECAC South championship game Saturday at 2:00 at Albright.  Also kudos to Albright for a fine season.

#7 seed Moravian beat #3 seed Albright 71-60 in the semifinals Friday and #1 seed King's beat #4 Washington & Jefferson 68-62.  The reason King's is not hosting is because they were unable to apply due to their men's NCAA game the other night.

I believe this will be the first meeting between Moravian and King's this year.  Should be interesting.

I'm a 1994 Moravian grad and this year's team has a lot of heart.  LET'S GO HOUNDS!

Coach Whitten,
thanks for reply; thought you were at UVA instead of VCU; saw your Kings team play Scranton once in NCAA quarterfinals at Salisbury(2002?), one step away from the final 4.

Roy_a,
In addition to sloppy, the Royals struggled offensively against  the Lehman zone defenses; discussed it briefly postgame with 1 of the coaches; hopefully, improvement tomorrow nite.

kate

Hey Scranton, you'd darn well better beat Hamilton!  King's, please take those Hounds for a long walk :), & Messiah. best luck with NYU - they appear to be super tough.

kate

Yikes, sorry, that's GMC playing NYU - don't really care about that one :(
