Losing Sauegling is a huge loss.   I have unanimous sources who think this 2009 team could be just as good if not better than 2005 team.    But winning 12 conference championships doesn't just happen.  Obviously, you need a little luck and the Wartburg knights have had some of that in the past.   It will be a very interesting season to follow.  Also, I agree with the team with the top 3 starting pitchers will win it.  But you can't win it without offense as well obviously.

Welcome to the board Knight#1........

Maybe it is my non-Wartburg education, but can you please let expand on your "unanimous" sources?  I am not following what that means.

Also, although the final conferece record last year was impressive, the Knights were not a steamroller by any means.  They won the conference because they went 9-1 in one run ball games.  That is the mark of a good team that knows how to win.  But, the conference was still up for grabs heading into the last series of the year.

So maybe my Wartburg Degree didn't help me out. But honestly at Wartburg I thought of Athletics being more important. I meant Anonymous source. Everyone makes mistakes even including Albert Einstein... one of the smartest persons to ever live. So my bad.

Its okay Knights.......I was just playing around.  You know, hazing the new guy.

Anyone know of any younger guys that might make an impact this season?

Pitchers Kohls (16 career wins) and Todd (14 career wins) were very good for the Norse in 2006 and 2007.  Kohls had another very good year in 2008, but Todd fell back to being solid.  My hope is that both of them pitch as well in 2009 as they ever have (they both had 8 wins and an ERA below 3.00 in 2007).  If they are both healthy and throwing well, the Norse should be a contender again.

Max Flaig had a great freshman year in 2007 (6-2 3.43 ERA) while Hyland was strong the first part of 2008.  It would be great if they both bounced back so that Pichelmann could go back to closing.  I have no idea what kind of fall camp they had or what guys have been added.

With the position players the Norse need to replace Hiatt in the lineup and at SS.  Waddle and Schott should have good years again to lead the offense.

Wartburg won all of the close games last year while Luther was just awful in them (11 losses by 1 or 2 runs, only outscored the opposition 187 runs to 142 in 35 games).  It was a tough year to watch.

Hopefully the Norse get back to the 2007 version where they won 31 games and many of them were won by a nice margin (331 runs to 189 for the opposition in 42 games).

Luther also is going on a spring trip this year after missing one last year for the first time in many years.  Last year if I remember the spring break on campus was in between the first conference series against B.V. and the 2nd one against Wartburg, so the team stayed in Iowa and Minnesota.  The B.V. series was made up later in the year after being weathered out originally.

The Norse had a bunch of Metrodome games scattered around early in the season.  They also were juggling the pitching rotation during some of those non-conference games to be prepared for the conference games.

This year they get the normal routine of preseason games on a southern trip just like everyone else.  I would like to see the starters get into a rhythm before coming back and facing Cornell at the end of March.

May the weather and injuries situations be favorable for everyone this year!  Rainouts and injuries are part of it, but it is always fun to see the championship decided when the contenders are healthy and everyone was able to get the games in.

Saw the 2009 D3baseball.com Preseason All American team as well as the collegiate baseball DIII players and teams to watch.  Not one IIAC player or team to be found.  Is this a slap in the face or a reality check?

Reality check. While the IIAC is a solid conference, they are not the only conference that was left out of the pre-season honors.

Hey ya'll! New guy to the board! Just wanted to see what you all think about the upcoming IIAC competition. Looks like each team only lost a few key parts and they all have several returners (except UD which seemed to lose quite a bit). Who do you expect to be front runners this year and what players you expect to stand out?

Just wondering why Knights#1 is saying why Wartburg's team has a chance to be as good as 2005 squad.  As a fellow Wartburg alum I have to wonder if he is just being a "homer" or not.  When I saw them play last year (@ Simpson) I was a bit underwhelmed with where their level of play was at.  The "05 team will be a hard one to beat.  Let me know what I should be looking for with their team this year.

I was going through the rosters and stuff from the conference site and notice that Loras and Wartburg have still yet to update rosters.  Does anyone have a clue about this?  Loras is usally pretty good and the Knights are usually really deliberate with their roster posting.

Many schools are just getting back into second semester right now so I would give it a few more days or weeks. Snowbelt schools are still weeks away from games (except those starting in the MetroDome this weekend).

Not really buying that Big Poppa.  7 of the 9 conference schools already have their rosters up and and 6 of those 7 have been up for two weeks or more.  First day of official practice for most schools is Feb 1, so everyone should be well underway with their season.
