Several oddities to me on the all-conference team:

Coaches decide to give lifetime achievement awards to three players: Korn, Gross, and Waddle..........all very good players (and Waddle is a great player), but there is no way that Gross and Korn deserved 1st team honors and Waddle on the team at all is a joke this year.

Olberding was the right choice at POY, but Raisch seemed like a no brainer to me as the Pitcher of the Year.  Biggest snubs to be were Velvick from Coe, and Beckman from Luther.  SS was a very tough position this year however, so I can see Beckman being a tough one to get on.  Velvick has no reason not being on.

Glad both Johnson and Richmond both made the 1st team at 1B.  Good work on that one coaches.

Haha, very funny .  Lifetime achievement awards.  You know how it goes, every year a school will really push for one or two of their guys for one reason or another.

It is interesting to see how Gross turned out.  He transferred from Wartburg because he knew he didnt have a chance at even sniffing the field.  It looks like he made the right decision, I am glad he had some success.

Now that is just a silly thing to say about Adam Gross.  WHile I amy strongly question his status as a 1st-team all conference player, he would have started FOR SURE the last two seasons at Wartburg.  The kid is probably the best defensive outfielder in this conference and is pretty much unstoppable on the bases.

No, don't take me the wrong way.  He has turned out to be a good ball player.  But when he was at Wartburg (his freshmen year) he knew he was not going to be on the field for at least a couple of years.  He has a had a good career and it looks like he made the right choice by transferring.  I am honestly not knocking him at all, I think he is a nice guy and a decent player.

Anyone have any idea who Cornell might hire as their new baseball coach?

I was surprised also to see that Velvick and Beckman didn't make it onto the All-Conference teams. But Gross did have a pretty solid year.
Any one know when all-region teams come out?

Get 'er done! ;)

Since I really thought my Titans would do well in the WS :'(, any team that beats them twice on the final day of the regional is my pick to win it all.

Great job by Coe Softball!  The Iowa Conference in Softball, like they also do in Wrestling, showed once again why the NCAA thinks so highly of the league in terms of bids (or qualifiers in wrestling).  Regular season champ Central went 0-2, but everyone else had a strong showing in NCAA play.  The Iowa Conference has four really good softball programs right now, and Simpson has been pretty good as well in recent years.

As far as Coe goes, I know they have some other successful sports like Tennis and Swimming, but when I think of Coe for sports I think of Football, Softball, and now Wrestling.  Wrestling has just recently taken a big jump, but Timmons and the Softball program has been in a great place since he jumped from Mount Mercy in the late 1990s or whenever he came over.
