As for Iowa Conference Baseball, the league did not make a strong showing or case for why two IIAC schools should have been selected to the NCAAs.  Wartburg did not go 0-2 or anything like that, but I did not have a good vibe that they would bring the level of ball that they showed on Saturday at the IIAC Tourney.

Here is the last four years of how the IIAC has done in NCAA play since the 2005 Wartburg team made the Division III World Series:

2006 - Coe went 1-2 (won first game)
2007 - Luther went 2-2 (won first two games)
2008 - Wartburg went 1-2
2009 - Wartburg went 1-2

I thought Luther could have done all right had they made it this year, just like I thought Wartburg would have been a solid team had they made it in 2007.  However until the league gets back to winning 2-3 games in NCAA play or making it to the World Series, the snubs will continue.

I overall enjoyed another year of Iowa Conference Baseball though.

It's been a couple weeks and I still haven't heard anything about the Cornell job.  It is listed as being open on the Cornell web page, but it's not in any other listing that I have seen, including the NCAA Job Market page which I thought usually posted all openings.  It makes me wonder if they're going to try to stay in house?  I don't see any current assistants getting the job, but perhaps someone who was an assistant in the past that has a little more experience than the current assistants?  Although, I'm not sure why they'd want to do that.  Fishler was an assistant and the program has slowly declined under his leadership, I'm not sure that hiring an assistant is the answer.  But, it may be a cheap way to fill the hole if they hire one of those young assistants... but I think that would be a monumental mistake, but one that Cornell will almost certainly entertain, if only for a little while.

Congrats to St. Thomas for making a serious run in the CWS.  They might or might not end up winning the whole thing, but it is good to see a Midwest school make a run at it.

Can someone please tell me who Chris Handke is (from Cornell).  I see that he got drafted in the 40th round by the Angels as a RHP (as reported on D3baseball.com).  His stats for his career are 10.12 ERA, 0-1 win/loss record, 21.1 IP, 24 Earned runs, with 11 strikeouts and 25 walks.

How does something like this happen?  Please explain this to me before my head explodes.  For the life of me I don't think I will ever understand the MLB draft.

By the way, the kid's 6'11" and knows how to pitch.  Maybe they see something worth taking a chance on and giving him a little bit of coaching.

Whoa.  And he went to Cornell as a catcher.  The kid's probably got some skills.

It was the 41st round and by the Dodgers.  I heard he threw pretty well at the Perfect Game outing.

Thanks everyone for the info on this kid, I did not have the time to do the research myself.  Best of luck to him.

Is this your own poll or the IIAC coaches poll?

I thought this would generate some chatter. Where are all the IIAC supporters?

Thats my predictions. Cali...all teams started official practices on Monday. Apparently it is a little early to be talking about the season but I'm always up for some discussing Poppa
