doolittle,

Are you at the Luther-Dubuque game?  Are they in rain delay mode?  The live stats stopped at 9-1 Norse, bottom of the 9th, two Spartans on base with nobody out.

I wanted to watch this on the computer, but I am sure the bad weather stopped the video feed.

Augie Lindmark looked like he dealt with a lot of Dubuque baserunners, but went 8 innings and gave up only 1 run.

Chris Reynolds looked good hitting against Hamline at the Saints stadium yesterday.  Looked like he was hitting it pretty solid today as well.

Looks like the Luther-Dubuque game was called for rain, so the final score reverted back to 7-1 Luther, 8-inning game.

Congrats to B.V. for beating Simpson, 5-1.  Really big win for the Beavers in that they finally stopped the bleading.  They are now 7-6 while Simpson (and Coe) are now 11-4.

Floyd, I was a working stiff yesterday.  To my knowledge, Dubuque has just ran live stats for all their baseball games this year and there hasn't been any video.  Not sure why.  What I gathered from the live stats it was a 2-1 Luther lead from almost the get go, and then the Norse exploded for 6-7 runs in like the 6th or 7th inning and put the game away.  That's what good teams are supposed to do.

Last year Dubuque got behind early in games.  This year the Spartans seem to hang in until the bitter end.  I hope to see some more wins from the this year, but am optimistic that next season tis the year we see some real improvement.  Would be REALLY nice to at least finish ahead of the Duhawks :D

Consider me impressed.  Dubuque takes 2 from Luther today.  5-2 in the opening game and 4-3 in the 2nd game.  Good job Spartans.  Impressive win!!!

Congrats Spartans as the Norse now have swept two schools (Cornell and Loras) and lost the series 2-1 to three schools (Dubuque, B.V., and Coe).  Luther did not from the stats look like they hit well enough nor did they play defense.

Losing the pair today put the Norse right back on the edge in the middle of the league.  Augie Lindmark so far has been the difference between the 7th place predicted finish and where they currently are.

Dubuque is also back in the mix for making the league tourney.

I did think I was going to watch this series on the computer as the Dubuque site earlier in the week made it seem like you could both watch and see live stats.  I was dissapointed in that the only school besides the Norse that I remember watching baseball online was when Luther was at Central last year.

Wow!  B.V. dropped the hammer on Simpson today, 5-0 and 15-1.  They swept the series and sent Simpson to 2nd place at 11-6.

Those Norse losses to the Spartans dropped them to 9-6 and tied with B.V. for 3rd (wins would have put them in 1st  :().

There are now four teams with six losses and Coe is in 1st place with five losses.

The IIAC and CCIW are in the same boat... tons of parity in the league and one more good team than playoff spots available. Both will be fun to watch in the next two weeks.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

Luther lost to Wartburg today, 6-3 in 11 innings.  It was 1-1 at the middle of the 7th when I had to leave for an appointment.

Sounds like Luther scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to lead 3-1, but the Norse blew the lead in the 9th with Lindmark on the mound.  Luther had 4 errors late in the game. :-[

Like B.V. last week, the Norse now need to stop the bleeding to avoid a free fall.  They are now only 9-7 with Simpson, Wartburg, and Central still ahead.  Worse, they played poorly with Lindmark throwing 4 innings.

The only good news from yesterday for the Norse was that Matt Reynolds pitched very well for 7 innings as he was leading when he left.  Watson looked good on the mound for the Knights when I was watching.

Bad defense late in the game in a key game is still bugging me.

In 6 days, all questions will be answered.

What we know right now is that Dubuque and Cornell have both been mathematically eliminated from the conference tournament.  Dubuque put up a better fight than most expected this year but just couldn't find a way to win many series.

Loras has scratched and clawed their way back into the picture and can very realistically find a way into the field of 6.

Here is how I see the seeding shaping up after the mid-week games and the weekend games.

1. Coe............(17-7)
2. Wartubrg...(16-8)
3. BVU............(15-9)
4. Simpson.....(14-9)
5. Central.......(14-10)
6. Luther........(12-12)

Loras misses the tournament at 11-13.

Just one man's opinions, looking at matchups this could turn in SO many different directions

Games to note

Tuesday
------------
BVU @ Central  (DH)

Weekend
-------------
Coe @ Simpson

I think tomorrow's Wartburg-Luther Doubleheader is right up there with the BV-Central doubleheader for tomorrow.

Agreed!  I am actually a little shocked not to see more Wartburg people around this board as they have gone from 6-6 to 13-6 in the Iowa Conference.  With five games left against Luther and Loras, they have to think they have a good shot at winning the last five games to put a lot of pressure on Coe.  Like many recent seasons the Knights haven't been that consistent overall (or that good early in the year), but they are a serious contender down the stretch.

I know Wartburg's wins in the seven-game winning streak have mostly been against Cornell and Dubuque, but the Norse sure had problems with the Spartans this year.  In addition, the Knights also did not even throw Watson against Dubuque.

I am sure the Norse will see Watson today for the 2nd time this year (I think Hyland beat the Knights twice last year in different midweek games).  Hopefully the Norse rotation (hopefully Lindmark) is ready to go for these next five games, but especially the doubleheader today as not only do the Norse want to get the taste of the extra inning game last week against the Knights out of them, but these games will help decide the league title.

Luther has swept a couple conference series and lost the rest of them.  It would good to win the Wartburg series to finally get one of those 2-1 series wins. ;D

Watson topped Luther's Danny Smith in the 1st game today, 1-0, but the Norse did at least come back to win the nightcap, 5-0.  Byom and Martin combined for the shutout in game two.  Martin has had a very nice freshman year.

Wartburg only scored 1 run in a doubleheader, but they still get the split.  You have to tip your hat to Watson as he has put together a very strong season.

Augie Lindmark did not pitch today for the Norse as I assume he is getting the Friday start against Central.  I have been happy to see the the top five pitchers for Luther are putting up strong numbers right now.

It must have been a night for pitching though as Liriano threw a no-hitter for the Twins. :o  I know the White Sox have played bad baseball overall like the Twins, but Liriano throwing a no-hitter against anyone right now is shocking (even with his potential).
