I see that Oxy has unfortunately called curtains on their football program.  The administration there had been trying to kill off football for a few years (or doing a damned good imitation of trying to kill it if that wasn't the intent) so it may not be a valid question for our own locale, but I wonder if any Minnesota programs (MIAC or not) are close to doing the same.

A little more from Down Under.

A friend just forwarded this to me.  Fake news?  Hard to believe it's true.  I've never heard of anything like this before.

Magpie swoops in bloody attack on Victorian man's eyes

Quote
James Glindemann told ABC news he was sitting on a bench and eating when the bird swooped on him in Sale in eastern Victoria on Tuesday.

"It looked at me and I didn't give it any food, so it just attacked me," Mr Glindemann said.

"First it struck my left eye, and when it landed back on the ground, I didn't drop my food and so it attacked me again in the right eye.

"There was some blood that was dripping at one stage and it covered my eyes ... I could barely see, but I managed to find my car and I rang triple-0."

Bob was more than a hoops coach. A great mentor for a lot of kids and what a coaching tree.

And he was a friend of "Moonlight" Graham. It's a nice remembrance.

I just checked out the game highlights and Bartch played 3/4's of the game after coming in early in the second quarter.  A big congratulations on playing the o-line in the NFL.  A huge accomplishment.  Unfortunately, the Jags suck.  But you take your victories where you find them.

He did well. Didn't give up a sack and picked up a few stunts.  They were even running over him (at right guard).  He did get knocked on his can early in his game but stuck it out and ended up with a good show.  I don't know why he went in but I bet (hope) he starts next weekend.

EDIT: When you realise that he took an o-line snap in the NFL in just the 28th game he ever took a snap on the o-line (I'm not counting special teams or tight-end because they are different positions) then the accomplishment is really incredible.  Who does the o-line coaching at SJU?  Whoever it is did a fine job teaching Ben how to play there.

Hey there, 57, it's good to see you around.  Seeing your post makes me wonder how the weather is going in CO.  My folks sent me this from up nord in da Rapids yesterday.  It's pretty early for dat much snow, ya know.  It's gonna be a cold one this year for sure.  You betcha.

EDIT: You may see the critter in the squirrel feeder.  My folks have given up on calling them bird feeders.

Bartch took 55 of a possible 64 snaps on offense.  Pretty, pretty good.

Oz, I'm guessing you've probably seen this already, but the "Bartch Option" is becoming a thing at SJU. Tyler Johnson is making the move from TE to OT. Maybe SJU will become the new "Offensive Line U" like Penn State was "Linebacker U" for the longest time. (OK, I get they won't be sending guys to the NFL regularly, but we could be the D3 school always known for having great offensive linemen.)

Congratulations to Bartch- incredible accomplishment. I watched a 12 minute highlight video of UWW v SJU last year. I didn't see one play where Bartch was beat- not even close. If Erdmann wasn't so good I'd wonder why SJU didn't just pound the ball left all game.

I see that, along with some other places, Colorado is burning. Knowing you live in western Colorado, I'm hoping you and family are alright. Let us know.

I reckon the odds of lightening striking twice are pretty slim, but moving tall, big TE's in one slot could be a useful move at D3 level (even though guys will rarely get to the NFL, as we know).  Getting a little faster and taller further toward the centre is never a bad thing.

Hey MW57
Lots of fire all around us but not here. Been smoky for two months & drier than popcorn flatulence. After over 20 years our Medigap company dropped our county so scrambling to get some. We haven't called Joe Namath yet.  ;D
Send me a PM about how you are doing. +k

I agree. I don't see lightning striking twice again. But, I like the formula of converting TEs to O-Line, using their speed and athleticism, to optimize as much of the talent on your roster as possible. I especially like it at SJU, giving incentive to guys to move around and contribute when they would otherwise be the 3rd, 4th, 5th or beyond TE on the roster.
