Johnnies have posted the new fall 2021 roster.  Lots of new names, I guess you can look at it as two freshman classes.  Wish I knew if they had any new transfers this fall.

I assume in DIII they also gave the "extra" year of eligibility for the COVID?  Which means to me guys who were juniors in 2019 could play this year as seniors?  I'm seeing a couple of "missing" guys who might have been contributors, if not this year in the future (not all JR's in 2019).  T.J. Hodge, the WR and KR, is not on the current roster. QB's Abe Havelka and Reed Smith seem to have moved on.  DB Sonte Senne played a lot in 19. Danny Pietruszewski was a JR in 19 and not on the roster. RB Kenneth Udoibok. Kicker Austin Solors.

RB Henry Trost gained a few pounds and is now over 200.

Some of those players may not be eligible due to MIAC rules with graduate players.  I don't know if there is a rule with years and eligibility including red or gray shirts such as 5 to play 4.
Even with a Covid 5th year I would wager that all MIAC players are required to be undergrads. #IMO That should be a rule across D3...not sure if it is.

Thanks, hadn't thought about the undergrad/grad distinction. That would explain a lot.

I think this is a conference by conference thing and the MIAC is one of the few that prohibits grad students. I think this might have enabled a number of UST guys to get another year after graduation

That is a huge point of contention within the conference, and it was a huge deal with St. Thomas.  I won't say it was the only reason, but it was a major factor.  I think there are several schools in the conference that would like to take it even further with limitations on eligibility.  You can probably guess some of the leaders on that one.

I believe Luther had to get permission from Boise for their blue field.  Central Arkansas has one of the most horrific looking fields.

As crazy as it sounds, anyone that wants a non green field has to get Boise permission.

Couldn't read the article because I don't subscribe to the NY Times, but I'm guessing it wouldn't hold up in a court of law. Don't see how anyone could patent a color.

My oldest transferred in and is classified as a Sophomore when in theory last year was a free year. Im not sure how it will work yet.

Probably a better explanation of the Boise State turf color situation...

https://smithhopen.com/2020/11/24/boise-state-does-not-own-every-color/

Still seems silly to me. That's like Ford trademarking a blue car so no other manufacturer can make a blue car without their permission.

Very little maroon and no gold but I guess it's all about having something new to get a bunch of dudes excited...I don't get it. I must be an old man.

I think this is a little more realistic.

Zero chance they lose to Valpo, especially at home. I've seen that program up close. I will put money on this. Presbyterian is also a comfortable win. But, if you've got them beating Stetson on the road I'm changing my prediction to SEVEN WINS.

Valpo beat Drake and San Diego this spring. A weird year, but leaves me questioning if they took a big step up.

I put very little stock into what happened in the Pioneer this spring. If anything, pandemic gave UST a grace year to get closer to that level of play.

May I direct this discussion over here? https://pflfan.proboards.com/thread/3906/pfl-schedules?page=3 https://gopherhole.com/boards/forums/7-national-titles-football-forum.2/

Be prepared for mask requirements at MIAC outdoor venues this fall.
I'm also betting on limited attendance at indoor events.

Federal health officials say: Wear masks in outdoor crowds. http://strib.mn/3klpMOz

I go away for a while I come back and not much has changed I see. Except haven't seen anybody talk about hamms that's the only thing I think that is missing)

Bartch doing the Johnnies (and the whole MIAC, if I may be so bold) proud.  He is getting good wraps from Urban Meyer.

Quote
He also praised left guard Ben Bartch, a second-year veteran who has started the first two preseason games for veteran starter Andrew Norwell. "He's going to be an NFL player," Meyer said of Bartch. "He's done a nice job."

Small point - shouldn't that be "Hamms"? You know, capital "H"!  ;D

And today he's got a feature article on jaguars.com.  Nice work.

Very cool.  I would imagine that helps stoke some fun "why not me" dreams across D3 offensive linemen, and players in general.
