Highlights/hype video from the weekend's game.  I'm glad that these are being done despite the two years off.  I was afraid whoever was doing it last time had graduated and it would go the way of the dodo.

I, too, am glad this kept going. I think they must have some solid institutional backing for this via the sports information/sports marketing departments. It's much higher quality content compared to even 5 years ago.
Looks like the Johnnies won 98-0 again according to that video.   ::)

I mean, it's not meant to be a recap video. I'm not shocked when a team does a highlight video and only showcases what they did well. Bethel has done these for a while, not sure if they still do, but we used to show these to the players on the morning of the next weeks game for some hype.

They still do - yeah, and agree, it's a highlight film, not a recap, so of course it isn't showing their positive outcomes.

Here's the North Park game - https://youtu.be/ood5oKgW2OU

One of, (IMO) the best that I've seen is North Central's - you actually get a flavor for what happened.

Of course, I liked the outcome of the game too, but the video and recap are extremely well done.

I certainly don't have a problem with that type of highlight video being created for the players, but if you're only going to produce one video for the public, the right thing to do is to show both team's highlights.  It makes for a much more exciting video and fills the missing role of the third party broadcaster who produces video for D1 and pros.

I disagree.  These are videos being produced by SJU, not a third-party.  They're not news stories, they're highlight/hype videos.  I highly doubt there are too many non-SJU folks that watch them.

Pretty sure Aurora has access to their own people to produce their own cut of the game.

That being said, I do like having a bit of the game narrative that AO speaks of. Maybe not a ten minute video like North Central v. Bethel from the playoffs, but it's nice to watch a 3-5 minute game summary with the key plays, turnovers, scores for both teams.

What SJU is producing now is something more raw and directed at 17- to 18-year-old recruits (19- to 21-year-olds if you're including those who are considering a transfer--35 year olds if you're trying to get a Ryan Keating-type transfer--I kid). The idea is to get guys fired up and want to put on the red and white armor, run through a brick wall, and make the vict'ry greater for the dear old Alma Mater in Collegeville.

Sam Chalmers graduated,I believe, in the spring of 20 and still does the videos. He's a freelance videographer & drone pilot- I would believe that SJU pays him for his work.

Week 2 MIAC football 2021

Northwoods Division

Carleton has its first game of the season by traveling to MN Morris for a 2:00 pm late game start. After a season opening loss to the Scots on the road last weekend, the Cougars have a pretty decent chance of notching a win against the visiting Knights this week. Could be a competitive game.

Gustavus hosts Wartburg in a game where last week the Gusties tossed 80 points onto the scoreboard. Historically, Wartburg has had a stingy defense. Last week, the Knights held Monmouth to just 3 points in their opening week victory. My gut feeling is that the defense of the Knights will help them secure a road win against the Gusties. Most likely the game of the week in the MIAC.

St. John's is idle this week.

St. Olaf travels to Luther for the second 2:00 pm starting game for the week. Last week the Oles took one on the chin against the perennially good Central team, and the Norse were similarly handled by the Eau Claire Blue-Golds. I think the edge goes to the Oles, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Norse squeak out a win.

St. Scholastica has no more non-conference games scheduled and won't start play for the season until 9/25/21.

Skyline Division

Augsburg is hosting Nebraska Wesleyan, after a loss down in Ripon, WI last week. The Prairie Wolves, on the other hand, are coming off an easy win against Eureka. It's doubtful the Auggies will be able to stand up to the Prairie Wolves while they hunt in the city, unless they get dazzled by the lights.

Bethel takes on UW Platteville. Last week, the Royals had a decisive win against North Park and the Pioneers let one slip away down in Texas at the hands of the ETBU Tigers. For Bethel, this is the first game on their new field which is now artificial turf. This will be a great game, but I think for the second week in a row some Baptists will get the better of the Pioneers.

The Cobbers host Presentation for an easy non-conference win. This will be a very lop-sided affair – I'd guess at least a 40 point spread, even with the stodgy offense of the Cobbers.

Hamline is idle this week.

Macalester travels down to Texas this week to take on Trinity for the only night game this week, with a 6:00 pm start. Last week the Scots came away with a win, and the Tigers had their game with McMurray canceled. I'll give the home field advantage to the Tigers and hope that Macalester makes a good showing for the MIAC.

The over-the-hill, old duffer codgers can like it, too. It's just that the production is not focused on grabbing those of us in said demographic.

Perfect morning here in Sioux Falls. Mid-50s at dawn, high in mid-70s, dew point at 48°. In short: perfect football weather. Sure would be nice to have another dose of Johnnie football this weekend. But, alas, the off week rears its head early.

What games are my fellow Johnnies watching this weekend to tide themselves over?

Also, it hasn't been brought up yet, but for those who were in attendance at Clemens Stadium this past Saturday, what did you think of the videoboard and single-point sound system? I feel like its going to throw me for a bit of a loop when I go back for homecoming.

I'm curious to see how Aurora will look against North Central! Will certainly be an early tale of the tape on how we compare! I'll definitely be watching my second favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, in their top 10 matchup against Iowa St.

I think the new video board is great. The biggest thing for me is the replays. The board is huge and the quality is outstanding. I'm still wondering about the view from the visitor side of the field.

I thought the sound quality was good.

North Central/Aurora is the game I'm most interested in. Will provide a gauge on the strength of the Johnnies.
