Looking through my Bethel ruby colored glasses, sometimes I just don't get it. If we look at the latest top 25 posted by D3: https://www.d3football.com/top25/2021/week5

UW Oshkosh holds off UW Platteville by a score of 35 to 32 this past weekend and gets away with a win, a team Bethel handled by a score of 28 to 7, and Bethel garners only 20 more votes/points from the previous week's standing? What? If BU doesn't move up, at least Oshkosh should take more of a hit than 17 votes/points. A lot of somebodys are not really paying close attention of who is playing whom and using that information to cast their votes. I am not saying they should switch positions, but should be a lot closer together in the standings.

Hmm... what if CAR finishes with one loss (to SJU) and BU finished with two (both the SJU, once in the championship game).  How does the selection committee work with that?  Carlton has both GAC and CON in Northfield, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.  That would be unfortunate if the division structure blows up the post-season selection process in the first year because Carlton pull a blinder season.

There's a lot more going on there than just those two teams, though. Linfield made a big gain at the expense of Hardin-Simmons, Union lost ground for generally not dominating Buff State, W&J the same for not dominating Geneva. All of those little pieces interplay and maybe, too, the voters remember that Platteville-Bethel was tied entering the fourth and was a one-score game with four minutes left.

Every voter in our poll gets a reminder each week of every team that a Top 25 candidate has played, the location of that game, the score, and what that team's current record is.

So what I hear you saying is that not everyone is looking at the notes you send them?  ;D

I hope they are, but I can't promise they interpret the results the same way I do or the same way you do.

I had Oshkosh 7 (down from 6) and Bethel 11 (up from 13) on my ballot. The other 24 voters' mileage may vary.

Bethel always executes well.  Their strength tends to be their discipline and that puts them at the top of the middle ranked teams most years.  They get a bit of special talent and they move to the top 10.  I agree that the way they played against both SJU and GAC, not forgetting the very solid win they put on UWP, puts them in the 11-13 range.

I am concerned that two losses to SJU (knock on wood it all plays out that way) coupled with the overloaded region 6 will cause them trouble come the end of season selection process.  We'll see when it happens, I guess.

(If the MIAC division structure proves to be a post-season handicap for a pool C selection then they'll need a good think about that.)

Correct me if I am wrong but With there being two Divisions its the Winner of the North vs the Winner of the Skyline right. So if both St John and Carelton play as unbeaten the then the winner of that game will play the winner of the Skyline.

That's how I understand it.

If you look at it from the Johnnie point of view, the division format almost guarantees you a pool C berth with a loss against Bethel in the rematch.  Your SoS will be much higher from skipping Hamline/Macalester and instead playing Bethel again and a 2nd non-conference game against a team with a better record than Hamline/Macalester.

I'd rather the Js not leave it in the hands of the committee!

Johnnies and Cobbers played in front of almost 6,000
Tommies and Toreroes barely 1,000. Geez D1 is cool 😎!!!

You're, I think, but SJU and CAR are both in Northwoods so they won't be playing each other in the championship game.  They'll sort each other out the week before the championship, the last week of the season.

I'm headed to campus this weekend for Johnnie Homecoming against Augsburg.

Who are the guys to watch from Auggie? Anyone the Johnnies need to contain on offense?

Against STO Sheehan threw for over 400 yards and 6 touchdowns.  Against CSS, 300 yards and 5 touchdowns.  There are two WRs, Tretter and Smith, who catch 75% of the balls.  Air Auggie, it looks.  Another challenge for our secondary.
