KR,

Have you considered looking into jobs at a golf course, so you could golf for free as one of the perks?

Two words:  THE STREAK

tmerton

Saw John's first practice tonight.  He had a cut down earlier this summer for the first time - Joe Tocchini ('97 I think - another SF guy) saw it when he visited about a month ago (he didn't know what it was at the time) and then some of the parents told us about it this weekend.

It's great - the kids have to put their names, numbers and stripes on their helmets - and some are a lot worse at it than others.  I asked Gary Fasching if they really let guys go on the field like that and he just smiled.

I'll report later when I don't have to use a motel terminal in the lobby; +k to as many as I could reach with a slow connection in the time allowed.

Yeah, none want to hire a guy for only 1 month though.

My job if you can call it that is pretty cake. I sit at the fitness center at school and make sure everyone who comes in swipes their ID past the little ID recognizer thingy.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Hey, Johnnie Red, my friend, a belated "Happy Birthday"!  If you are like me, you are not counting anymore, but still celebrating them!  Hope you had a nice day.

What do you mean by "he had a cut down" tmerton?

Glad you enjoyed yourself.  What did you end up finding to do in MN?

Happy birthday JR!

Happy Camp opening to all posters.  It's finally football season!!!!!

To celebrate I will open the season standings pick-em later this week on the pick-em board.   Give me a few days to get organized on that account.

Finally, today's SJU article brought to you by the SC Times:
ยป The 6-4 Gearman, who caught 53 passes for 860 yards and nine touchdowns last season, has been drawing attention from NFL teams.

A scout from the Buffalo Bills will be on hand to watch him practice today and a scout from the Atlanta Falcons will be in Collegeville on Tuesday.

KR,
I about crapped reading your trip report.  What a nightmare!!  I kept (or hoped) for a punchline and then it became painfully obvious that it was no joke.  Glad you are home safe and sound!  Sounds like it was close..... :D

My favorite quote from the SC Times article:
QuoteHead athletic trainer Scott Bierschied is wearing a lightning strike detector that can pick up lightning up to 40 miles away

Nice thought about the NFL and Gearman, but I strongly doubt it.  Not that he's not a great athlete, but I don't think he's NFL caliber.

Come to think of it, what ever became of Concordia's Pace Picante (Andrew Passanante, for the new guys)?  Time for some Googling!

Edit:  Looks like nothing ever became of him...weird.

I saw that and about fell over laughing.  Does it attract lightning or just detect it? I love that he has to wear it-- it can't just sit on the cart...

I fully agree about Gearman. I wouldn't quite call him league material at this point.  It would be great, but it's probably not going to happen.

Any Oles lurking around here, or have they all left since their team's beatdown last year?

I'm expecting a few more fans from other schools to start crawling out of the woodwork before too long.  UST usually has at least one token poster (what ever happened to Benchwarmer?).  The Oles should have a few guys spouting off.  Afterall, it's getting close to the time when football talk may overshadow all the other crap that we talk about ;D

Is that possible?

As long as we have some Gusties, what is the consensus with the GAC squad this year?   Improved, for sure, but will they be middling or battling to stay out of the basement?

Say it ain't so, Duff!  :D

Welcome home (or at least back to Iowa) KR.

On my way home from Alexandria yesterday, traffic on I94 was backed up to a stop all the way to Albany. Freeway was wet and a westbound car hydroplaned and crossed over the median into eastbound traffic. Fins, Jr. was almost late for his 2:30 shift at the info desk, despite leaving before noon.  Jr. reports that there are cars hydroplaning all the time causing accidents on both sides of the Collegeville exit.
So, especially if it's wet out, drive carefully near SJU.
If I only had a lightning detector...

You should know better than to make offers like that because I will hold you too them!

Speaking of loaded, that explains why you agreed to be the world's first 6'4 hairy high school gymnastics coach :)

It ain't home, but its better than BFE Kentucky!

Lightning Detectors? Sounds like something from a bad '80s sci-fi movie.

Looks more like a radar detector!
