While there is no doubt that the Johnnies are facing, to say the very least, a daunting challenge to get to Canton. The hard road is not unprecedented in Johnnie history. In 2000 the Johnnies were an at large team that was seeded 7th in their bracket. The Johnnies hit the road and beat a 10-0 UW-Stout, a 9-1 defending national champion PLU, a 12-0 Central and a 12-0 Hardin-Simmons.

Now I am not saying that Chris Backes is a Tom Linneman caliber QB and there isn't a budding superstar like Blake Elliot on the roster. A few of the same coaches are still here and as long as the Johnnies keep winning they will be at home. Just saying.

That's some good stuff.  I'm warm and fuzzy now.

No County Fair cover, eh?

I've never seen cover stands like Linfield has in MN.

The cats may have covered seats, but you have to be shorter than 5' 4" to fit comfortably. Luckily for me, the person in front of me was a no-show and I could put my legs over the seat. (I'm only 6' tall).

Good luck to the Johnnies!

Wyatt vs the SJU secondary will be the story of the game. Johnnies are physical up front on both sides and have a really good 1-2 punch at RB. Need the secondary to hold up so it doesn't become a shootout. Wish SJU was at full strength, but they've got as much depth as anyone in the country. No idea how this one ends up.

This'll be the most balanced passing attack we've seen all year I think. 3 WRs with about 600 yards and 10 TDs each. 2 RBs adding another 600 yards receiving to go along with 1100 on the ground combined. 2 TEs rounding out another 300 yards or so. Gonna need to get pressure in the pocket or risk getting carved up. First purple team we face this season, and they happen to be cats. Would expect nothing less than a slugfest.

Thank you to the Johnnie football team and coaches for an entertaining season. Thank you to the Johnnie broadcast team for their excellent work. And last but not least, thanks to everyone on the board for adding to how much I enjoy football season each year! I definitely missed the whole experience last year.

Ice Bear sends his genuine congrats to St. John's on what was a great season and effort today. Ice Bear says this was a battle between two very, very good football teams. Ice says overall the MIAC got 2 in and both played hard and represented well. Ice will most ****ing certainly be hanging around next season and continue to get to know this great conference more to expand his D3 football horizon. Great job ****ing job Johnnies!

So ends the MIAC football season. Congrats to SJU and Bethel on nice years, that both for sure felt ended too soon. Johnnie's battled today, but Linfield just had a little more juice today.

Privileged to be witness to a damn good game.
Thanks to all Johnnies

Hello? Is the mic on? A great season for the Johnnies and a great victory for Linfield. Obviously the mistakes killed the Johnnies and it feels like SJU maybe left a win out there, but I'm sure Linfield fans thought they should have won in 2002 and 2003 when SJU pulled games out. These teams seem to be perfectly evenly matched whenever they do play (well, obvious exception of the 1965 NAIA title game....)

Honestly there was probably a ceiling on the Johnnies' season the second Syverson got hurt. It reminded me of '99 in some ways, though this offense was more explosive with its backup but the '99 team had a better shot at winning it all. Backes did a fantastic job however stepping into that role and that Bethel win will live on forever.

Would love to see Linfield go far; Central would be fun as well.

In the meantime, will go and catch up on the 754 pages of posts I missed in past 9 months.

Looks like it took a team to get over 30 to beat us. Heckuva season with high expectations and plenty of curveballs. Hopefully Larson is good and the gang can recover from a bruising season.

It was such a pleasure to play against a Class program like St. Johns!  I absolutely loved the camaraderie and sportsmanship that was on display all game long between two very equal teams (and programs!).  Offering a hand to help up the other team... the guy actually taking the offered hand... patting guys on the butt after a good play... it was so nice to see.  Linfield has had some issues with that this year and to have an entire game filled with guys playing the game the way it should be played was a joy to watch.

I'm not sure that I would have wanted to have played a healthy Johnnie squad.  I could tell that you had a lot of guys playing hurt which is unfortunate.

Did I hear correctly that the guy who was moving on with his life after the 2020 season to become a teacher actually came back to play this year?

I was at the 2002 Johnnie victory at Maxwell Field (aka the Catdome) and have always admired their program.  Our brackets were a D3 playoff joke as was Central and Wheaton... no way 4 top 8 teams should be playing in the Sweet 16 but that is life at D3.

Johnnies never give up.... thank you for hosting a great game at a fantastic venue.

Fun season to be a Johnnie fans. Plenty of twists and turns ... and a lot of great football. Congrats to Linfield.

Yes.  Colin Franz (DL #19) is teaching full time.

That was a hard fought game and a bummer to lose.  Gotta love the way the Johnnies battled back.  Sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way, and today was one of those days.  Losing sucks, but I'm proud of this Johnnie team.  They battled through a ton of adversity this year.

Congrats, 'Cats.  Do some damage, now!

Ok, now WTF was up with SJU playing a Linfield hype video, playing their rouser before the game, and playing it again along with Wildcat graphics on the video board when they scored?  You can be gracious hosts without going that far. I'm sorry, but that's part of homefield advantage, and that really ticked me off.  I've never been to another game where the home team did that.  >:(
