You say you are sympathetic Greg but you always seem to indicate we should just be happy we aren't getting messed with as much as we used to/could be now.

I'll be the first to say, there isn't a good solution that doesn't require more money. But it is a tad hypocritical for the NCAA to plead poverty while inferring that if teams like HSU want to give themselves the best shot at making the playoffs they need to hop on a plane for a non conference game.

And in terms of you being irked, what do you expect players, coaches, fan etc to feel about a system that is designed to fair....unless it cost extra money and then it pretty much always hits the same teams/regions. If you are waiting on fans to be logical about this, you are going to be waiting a while.

Lastly, to me Coach Smith was letting off a little steam on a issue that I bet he could scream about for an hour if you and Pat inquire enough. This wasn't on ESPN, it was on a YouTube link that has less than 350 views so I think the sanctity of D3 is safe for now.

Wabash still have a football team?

If the east is still hanging their hat on Wesley's wins... they don't have a program anymore

I'm not all that happy about playing Linfield in the second round. Especially as the overall number one seed. But it is what it is. Need to keep in mind these playoffs are a money loser as is for the NCAA. I think we can thank March Madness for funding them.

Only ~$850M of the $1B in revenue  :P. I suppose the gripe is the perception of 'fair competition' that is part of the NCAA mission statement. Nice breakdown that shows were the funds get allocated: https://www.ncaa.org/about/where-does-money-go. Seems they just haven't found a creative way to offload some/all of the extra expense onto others (like the fans).

This type of conversation makes me think of Jay Bilas. I can see the tweet now, "there just isn't enough money...".

Good info.  I should also note that hosting a playoff game is a loser financially for the host school, at least in football.  School bears all the costs, NCAA takes all ticket sales proceeds.

Just got home from the James Taylor and Jackson Browne concert at the X.  The guitar player for Jackson Browne looked like Pat Coleman, only with a bouffant and somewhat funky looking eye glasses.

Pat, do you have a side gig we don't know about?

Old enough to have been a Jackson Browne fan for almost 50 years.

Old enough to be... running on empty?

The SJU Bracket teams, that Linfield was in, had a combined record of 73 - 4, with 5 undefeated teams. He has a right to make that snarky observation. Nicely Done Coach Smith.

I probably do have side gigs you don't know about, but this isn't one of them. I'm more of a keyboard guy myself. Don't think Jackson Browne would be impressed by the eight chords I can play on guitar. :)
