Gary saying he hopes to sit down with guys like Henry Trost, Ravi Alston, and a number of other guys who have enough credits to graduate in the spring but have another year of eligibility due to COVID. Some of those guys are considering other options (grad school, jobs, etc.) It will be interesting to see how this works out.

Ostensibly, this could take until the fall of 2024 to work itself out with the guys that were freshmen in the fall of 2020 that now have an extra year of eligibility.

Reminded me of this tweet regarding Ravi: https://twitter.com/d3football/status/1465305373456297991?s=21.

Options for remaining eligibility is certainly not new, but with the pandemic the amount of guys it impacts is probably unique. As you rightfully pointed out this isn't just a this year situation either.

Seems an uphill battle, but perhaps convincing a few will get some additional ones on board as well.

Absolutely. I haven't heard any updates...

He's scheduled to be on the final Football Weekly show this evening.

Gary just revealed on Football Weekly that he was hospitalized for 10 days and was just released yesterday. He's still on oxygen at home as he tries to recover.

Did he advance to pneumonia?  You gotta watch yourself with lung infections, particularly the 'rona if you're inclined to spend a lot of time outside in the cold coughing your lungs out.

He said he had what the doctors called "COVID induced pneumonia."

Gary was going to be stubborn and not go into the hospital on Sunday after the Lake Forest game. But eventually his wife called their son, Jeff, who flat out told Gary, "You're going."

Gary was saying that "selfishly, I'd like them all back" but then talked at length about these guys need to do what is best for them.

I'm glad your coach is doing better.... COVID-19 is not a hoax or fake news like some idiot said it was. And he's responsible for 100's of thousands of deaths because he convinced his cult that it's a hoax even though he almost died from Covid. What an idiot..... don't get me started! Grifter!

I guess cultists can identify other cultists. Don't get ME started.

Yeah, it will be interesting with that for the next few years with each class being graduation ready in terms of academics, but also having the option to come back for more football. Probably comes down to economics for many - who is picking up the tuition bills, and if it's mom and dad, are they OK with another semester?

I had a weird dream last night that Erdmann had a grad transfer year of eligibility left and came to St Thomas, but apparently he was injured or otherwise unable to get on the field. Main part of the dream had him going into the final game and running the ball in for a touchdown, followed by running the 2-pt conversion.

Maybe this will help get the bad nightmares of Erdmann throwing all over on us in '18 and '19 out of my brain. He did look good in purple though, a real shame he missed that opportunity.

Especially if it's only going to additional classes or perhaps a minor. Maybe with the NIL those guys could fund another semester being the face of Sal's, Gary's, etc.

There's an idea!

Have any D3 players made any of those deals that we know of?

I thought I heard of someone from the MIAC (perhaps it was SJU?) signing a deal with Barstool Sports for a nominal amount of money just to say they had a NIL deal.

The guys who are class of 2023 and 2024 can effectively build their academic plan around an extra semester right now--perhaps a double major, another minor, etc.?
