There is also another component to Viking fandom that, more often than not, is exacerbated by the ineptitude of all of Minnesota's professional franchises over the last 30 years.

Chicago has had recent success with the Cubs, Blackhawks, and White Sox--not to mention the 1990s Bulls dynasty.

Minnesota has the longest active drought between professional sports championships of any city that has 3 or more professional franchises, and it is over halfway toward achieving Cleveland status.

Now that I can't compare to. You're right about the Bulls, Hawks. Cubs and Sox (who I don't like) success.

How does Kidder not make one of the All Region teams. He and Ravi were at another level at WR in the MIAC. Also keep in mind the Aug and Mac WR got to feast on lesser competition given the division scheduling. Nothing against them as athletes, but Kidder is the better wideout.

Yeah. Super not helpful info for you but he was seventh in the voting and I think just from numbers, between the two freshmen in the voting, the Augsburg guy had 14 TDs.

My overall point is that Chicago always has somebody in the conversation to compete for a championship. It's an odd year where one of those teams isn't making a run.

Compare that with a Vikings fan. In a year like this where they just lost in week 13 to a team that hadn't won a game in 364 days, where's the lifeboat? The Twins are a whole lotta "meh" these days after winning 101 games in 2019 and getting swept by the Yankees in the ALDS, then getting swept by the Astros in 2020. I'll mention the Timberwolves only to point out how atrocious they are.

I guess the Minnesota Wild this year? They lead the Western Conference, but its early.

All Very fair points, and I agree with you.

Yeah....the  Cubs, Bears and Hawks all suck. bulls are off to a great start, they are the lone bright spot for me (considering I'm not a Sox fan). At least in professional sports.

I can get that. but again, that 14 TD's was feasting on their 'protected' MIAC schedule. Same with the Mac kid. It's obviously harder with two additional regions, but there should be some consideration for that. No one could watch the two SJU games and Central and not see that Kidder was as good as every other WR on the field. And against the best competition. There's nuance to all the stats. How many games was Kidder still playin the 4th Q and Bethel still throwing? For Augsburg/Smith, I'd bet every game, ever lesser D's.

Smith vs SJU - 5 rec for 59 yds, 0 TD
Smith vs BU - 7 rec for 56 yds, 0 TD

Kidder vs SJU - 4 rec for 129, 1 TD
Kidder vs SJU - 7 rec for 143 yds, 1 TD (MIAC Champ Game)
Kidder vs Central - 8 rec for 84 yds, 2 TD

The Timberwolves, who have not been relevant since KG was traded away, have the lowest franchise history winning (losing) percentage of teams in the four major sports. Tom Brady has moved the Buccaneers from worst to second worst.

The Gophers have a pretty pathetic record of late as well.

The only bright spot would be the Lynx.

I agree. Unfortunately the voters aren't always able to factor in nuances like this.

I agree with you. If it is any consolation, he has plenty of time to serve crow.  :)

I thought of this at the gym tonight. Hopefully he grows a Lake Mille Lacs sized chip on his shoulder and takes it out on MIAC DB's the next 3 years.  ;D

Really, those are the only comparables that need to be looked at. He should be ahead of Smith on these numbers alone.

I'm old enough to remember listening on the radio to the first Viking game. I was throwing a football around in the back yard with my brother as they beat the Bears.

I think the Wild are the real deal. They have all the building blocks. My hope is a Wild/Capitals Stanley Cup Final.

Interesting read about the disappearance on the SJU campus from 2002.

I lived in Metten Court. Had gone into St Joe to Sal's that night, but came back before bar close alone. Parked in the Flynn Town lot & noticed a party going on at another apartment. Went into mine & called it a night. Looking back, I wonder how close the timing of the disappearance was to my return. Very unfortunate event! I hope answers come out so the family can finally have closure!

Wait, you lived in Metten in '02/'03?  I did, as well.  I didn't know Josh, but I actually stopped in at that party for a bit.  Still hard to believe that he essentially vanished.

A tradition unrivaled...

Thanks for sharing.  Interesting indeed.  I hate to cast shade on a law enforcement agency, as they have a ridiculously challenging job, but the after the fact analysis on how the Stearns county sheriff handled the Wetterling case certainly opens them up for challenges on how they handled this one, and their lack of willingness to let anyone else into their process doesn't help.
