Do any of you know any other conferences that do an all sports championship the way the MIAC does? The ASC does not and I am interested in building on but wanted to see the structure for some.

The UMAC has one:

ODAC has one. Or at least did. I don't see the 2020/2021 final records. https://odaconline.com/general/2019-20/releases/060420-commcup-final

Edited: I take that back. Here's the 2020/2021 final standings. W&L swept all three men's, women's and combined trophies for the 6th straight year and have won 25 of 27 combined cups including more than 20 straight.

Bethel won the MIAC Regular Season Baseball Championship over the weekend.

The playoff field should be just about completely set. (1) Bethel, (2) SJU and (3) Gustavus capture the first three seeds. Concordia is the only outlier. They play Gustavus today. A win clinches the fourth and final playoff spot for the Cobbers. A Cobber loss makes things awfully murky, leaving Concordia, St. Scholastica, and Saint Mary's all tied at 10-10. I haven't had time to dive in and figure out the tiebreakers to see who would get the final playoff spot.

I haven't followed the ball too closely this spring, however, it looks like the Jays have good bats but are not too deep on pitching.  Is that accurate?  A couple of good games and the championship is there for the taking.

That seems to be the case. It was readily apparent when they hung 36 runs on Gustavus in two games a few weeks ago--they also gave up 15, which in any normal universe will put you at serious risk of losing.

I almost liken it to a basketball team that lives and dies by the 3-pointer.

Looks like the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships could be rout for the Johnnies if the events go according to the chalk.

I went through and scored the publicly reported results (as found on the Track & Field Results Reporting System, or "TFRRS") from MIAC competition this year as if it were the meet itself.

There's no guarantee as to the veracity of the information posted to TFRRS, although I think it is mostly reliable. Some schools are downright derelict when it comes to reporting, so that will skew results a bit as well.

I would be shocked if SJU won by 76 points come Saturday evening.

President Anderson (or his successor) wants to be a the top of the heap! He's going to have to take SJU out and then Gustavus shortly thereafter.

Big changes at St. Mary's. https://www.startribune.com/students-devastated-after-st-marys-univ-decision-to-cut-11-programs/600172498/

I'm sure we'll be seeing similar changes at other Minnesota schools both private and public

Wow. Lots of stress on colleges these days. Let's hope for Saint Mary's that this isn't the start of a death spiral for the school (i.e., cut programs leads to fewer students, which leads to more cut programs, which leads to fewer students, which leads to closing/consolidating/etc.) Hopefully this is just prudent pruning so that the school can grow without the dead weight of a major like "music industry" or "human services." What concerns me is cutting core liberal arts majors like English and history--despite those majors having mediocre at best return on investment.

I know this was brought up several months ago, but it is worth re-posting again for context. Saint Mary's is near the middle of the pack as far as fiscal health. Makes me wonder what we could see from a place like Hamline in the near future.

My cousin has a bachelors and masters in history from Colgate.  She's a stay-at-home mom.  ::)

Hear, hear! There are plenty of baristas with political science, art history, theater, etc. degrees.

Here's a fun challenge:

Step #1: Go to your college or university's "majors & minors" webpage where all majors and minors are listed

Step #2: Conduct a word search for "Studies"

Step #3: Find a major from the search results that is not a complete bulls**t program.
