More important topic:

Any news on Roste?  Fingers crossed it's just sprain or uncomfortable bruising.

His non-throwing arm was amputated on Monday and he was fitted for his prosthetic (with hook for hand) on Tuesday. Not sure if he'll play against UWP, but word is he will be allowed to wear the hook, as long as the tip is covered by a cork* during game play.

*no word on if said cork was taken from a non-alcoholic bottle of wine, given Roste is 30 and Bethel's updated rules, probably just a standard wine cork is my assumption.

Ice Bear says his inside sources have told him that the Royals and Pioneers are currently in a week long legal battle in regards to the cork. Ice's sources fed him a quote from a closed door legal meeting where Royal representatives stated very clearly, "what kind of weak ass **** goes on in Pioneer land? You're telling me after losing to Tech in week one those ****ers are afraid of a little sharpened hook?" At that point Pioneer representation abruptly left the meeting. Ice hasn't heard anything since.

Ice Bear says paws crossed there will be no enforcement of "the cork" rule come Saturday.

I think they only enforce the cork rule when the runner is past the 25 yard line.  ;)

I hope Roste is healthy in time for the SJU game. I watched some snippets of UWRF's last game. It seems like their mobile quarterback will help get the Johnnie defense prepared for Roste.

I know I'm way late of this but had a great time last Saturday at the game and tailgating with usual suspects, section 105, Veek, TDT, finsleft, and Veek Senior and Dusty. Thanks again Duff for the seats!
Looking for improvement tomorrow in the run game and I think a less stressful victory-this team is really good.

I'm looking for improvement in the running game tomorrow...I'm expecting a close game.
Could easily be a shootout. It will help if SJU can get a lead and run the ball for more than 11 yards.

Quick Hits are up on d3football.com. Frank is picking River Falls to upset St John's. I hope the Johnnies are dialed in! Sounds like River Falls can sling the ball & like several others have said, I hope our run game makes a drastic improvement between weeks 1 & 2! A balanced attack is certainly an asset & harder to defend!

In decades of watching football, I have never seen an up-tempo offense that operates as quickly as last year's UW-RF offense. It has the feel of a Grinnell basketball game. It's fun, unpredictable, and stressful all in one package!

WRs also need to step up a bit. Can't rely on Larson to be the only option.

For what I believe was a first WR start NVE #7 did pretty well. Had an early drop and a muffed punt but bounced back with some big plays (a quiet 4 catch 92 yard performance). Still maintains KR, PR, and holding duties. Jungels #39 might also be an unknown to watch for this season either as a spell for Larson or in a multi-TE set.

The reason a penalty was not called was because the deep returner signaled the fair catch and the up back caught the ball. The up back had no way of knowing the deep receiver had signaled a fair catch because he was behind him. So the play was blown dead, but no penalty was assessed. Seems like a reasonable outcome.

Thanks for the update.  That makes complete sense even if it isn't 100% addressed in the rule book.

Good luck to the Warhawks!  Go Johnnies!

Jungels dad was a really good Cross Country runner at SJU. Kind of crazy because Will Gillach's dad was also a cross country guy at SJU around the same time as Jungels. Boys must have got their football skills from mom's side of the family  ;D!!!

Buck also had 6 catches.  I didn't see the game, but they've talked a lot about depth at the receivers positions--they had 7 guys catch passes on Saturday, which tells me that they're confident in spreading the ball around.

Now, I know there were some drops.  That needs to be cleaned up!

Roste is not on the depth chart, so it looks like he's officially out for this weekend.

Hope he's back before not too long!

You're quite tenacious about a potential no-call that had no impact on the outcome of the game.

I thought I explained why earlier. I just want to know why it was ruled the way it was. I like to know what the rules are. It has absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of the game. Others here must also want to know. This looks like the refs really didn't understand the fair catch rule.

Same reason I have been interested in this! I got the clarification last night from Coach Bullis. When I heard the "25 yard line" from the referee, he was talking about the placement of the ball, not where the ball was caught. Sorry about the confusion. At least it gave us one more thing to talk about to get us to Saturday!  :)

If that was the explanation then they need to update the rule, as it specifically states that no player shall take more than 2 steps on a fair catch if ANY receiving team player calls for the fair catch - doesn't say it has to be the player making the catch. Now if the explanation was that he only took a couple of steps, that would be different, but that wasn't the explanation and the refs gave an incorrect reason for no penalty.

Boys of Fall

Did anyone else see a second ref on the grassy knoll behind the old scoreboard last Saturday?  Not sure what impact this had on the fair catch ruling.

I think 91 creates havoc tomorrow and sju gets 2-3 picks.
Uww is a good team-probably win the conference-so I think this is 21 point win.
