SJU13

Gotta best last years score, 51-0.

Wrapping up the non-conference this weekend. See any surprises or improvements in teams compared to last year? Does Concordia get the better of the close games?

TOP is garbage.  :o  Score is all that matters.

Ice Bear says this is exactly what the reaction always is...hence the reason we make fun of the fact that many focus on TOP so much. We now use it as sarcasm...Ice may get his ass kicked for saying this but even Troylet is more important...and if you've ever been...
I'd say it matters in some situations.  If you're trying to hold down a high scoring passing offense it definitely helps to reduce the number of possessions in the game.  You're giving your defense more chance to rest and towards the end of the halves you especially want to hold onto possession so you can leave as little time as possible for the other team.
I'll take a Monkey Stop over winning the TOP battle  8-)

Agreed. I could care less about TOP when the offense is able to consistently put together 4 play 60 yard drives all day in 1:48.
There is something to be said about using TOP to slow down a potent offense like SJU's passing attack the last few years. The only thing is that you have to actually score to keep up. Possessing the ball for 40+ minutes doesn't matter if you aren't converting those opportunities.

Makes me think of some of the games with the Cobbers in the early 2000s and early 2010s where SJU would score relatively quickly and then Concordia would hold the ball for 8-9 minutes with lots of 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust plays and score after long drives.

I, for one, am glad of Ice Bear's presence.  It adds the lightness this board has lacked for a while.  Long Live Ice Bear!

It's been a long slow decline since Sofa King departed.

I don't know that anyone said it here, but I did make a similar reference in the podcast. :)

I listened and heard...

Score:  SJU 55 - Luther 7
TOP:  SJU 25:19 - Luther 34:41

This really threw me for a loop because I did not recall SJU playing Luther in recent years.  Indeed, it was Martin Luther College.

Boy, quiet week around here.  No one mentioned how the Hot Carls dumped 84 on Crown College.  They'd better watch themselves--MIAC presidents are watching.

Just don't do it to St. Olaf.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I might track the GAC vs. UW-Stout game this weekend. It is easily the most compelling matchup of the weekend involving a MIAC school.

As for non-MIAC games, Hardin-Simmons @ UW-Platteville is definitely one I'm keeping my eye on.

But, I'm not going to lie, I'm more interested in how Roste is doing at Bethel than anything else. I'm sure we won't know anything until around Thursday or Friday of next week when game notes come out.

I'll be interested in this one, too.  Not enough to watch it, but I will check in a few times.  I won't be surprised to see a Stout win.

Question for Pat:

Are there any schools in D3 that have an endowed athletics fund?

Alston and the Bobcats play at Oregon State tonight...game is on PAC 12 network which I don't get. All college football games should be streamed for free damn it!

Also the Tommie$ are hosting something called Lincoln University. I believe they recently made the move from NAIA to D2. With Goldy hosting Ralphie and an overcast dreary day in St. Paul U$T might draw as many fans as I saw at the CDH/STA game last night.

Happy 1/2 way to Saint Patrick's everybody!

Tommies are playing bye week. Lincoln is next. I think they are actually in year 2 of even having an athletic department, but at least they aren't cowards who won't play us like others. Basketball coach is interesting though (Gary Payton)

Would be great if looked at dates closely.

Scheduling is certainly not easy.  Lincoln appears to be a last chance U sort of program without any affiliation.  Their starting RB who is actually from Moorhead got kicked out of North Dakota.
