The whole alternating the championship game thing is horse hockey   >:(

Horse hockey?  That reminded me of a quote from John.  I won't use the player's real name.   ;)

JG:  "Johnson, do you know what HS means?"
Player: "No, John."
JG:  "It's horse$hit, which is exactly what that block was."

SJU's 2023 Football Schedule
Sept. 2 – vs. Trinity (Texas), 1 p.m.
Sept. 9 – at Wisconsin-Whitewater, 1 p.m.
Sept. 23 – vs. Bethel, 1 p.m. (Family Weekend)
Sept. 30 – at Augsburg, 1 p.m.
Oct. 7 – vs. Concordia, 1 p.m.
Oct. 14 – vs. Carleton, 1 p.m. (Homecoming)
Oct. 21 – at Gustavus Adolphus, 1 p.m.
Oct. 28 – vs. St. Scholastica, 1 p.m.
Nov. 4 – at St. Olaf, 1 p.m.
Nov. 11 – at MIAC Championship Week, 1 p.m.

Auggie @ Auggie will be a danger game coming off those first three contests.  The possibility of an emotional letdown that week will be looming large.  Concordia will have their second season in the new offense, right?  Will they have the same QB this year?  Carlton have been playing with their tails up the last couple seasons and will come ready to play.  Plus both GAC and STO are away.

A challenging schedule both in and out of the conference.

Carleton loses a LOT of production/experience including at QB. I still think Journell has the program on the upswing and the talent is improving, but I expect the record this year to be around .500. Especially considering they play 3 playoff teams this year, compared to just St. John's last year.

This feels different from when Kurt Ramler took over at Carleton back in 2006. The rumor was that he was generating some momentum, but then got little to no support from the administration on sustaining long-term success. Ramler only spent a few more seasons at Carleton before leaving.

Yes, it seems like Journell has a good plan and administrative support!

Been pretty quiet this last week.

I'd have to imagine there's a "car on the ice" contest somewhere in Minnesota that could be worth discussing.

Or perhaps there could be the inverse of the "Last to turn on the furnace contest in the fall"? i.e., "First to turn off the furnace in the spring"

Won a 19-inch B&W in the local Car In Lake Contest ... a mere 62 years ago. They propped me up on a lunch counter and put a photo of me and the TV on the cover of the county weekly.

I would have thought there would have been more chatter about the MN HS hockey tourney as well...

Augie ranked 4th in wrestling. Sending 8 to the national tournament but only 2 regional champs. Highest individual ranking is 4th. Warburg, of course, is ranked number 1.

U of M wrestling continues to become less relevant. Really irritating to watch 3 Minnesota high schoolers wrestling in the Big 10 finals for Nebraska, Iowa and Penn State.

Agreed, though I thought the Gophs outperformed expectations at Big Tens.  Blockhus wrestled better than I've ever seen him wrestle and really should have beaten Sasso.  Nagao continues to impress me--I hope he continues to develop.  He could very likely be a 4X AA.  They've got a talented recruiting class coming in.  I hope they can right the ship.

Pretty incredible finish of the MN AAA team wrestling championship.  STMA was up by 21 points over Hastings with 5 matches left.  Hastings rattled off 5 straight wins, including pins at the final 3 weights to win 33-32.  One of our assistant coaches is an STMA alum, and he was beside himself!

STMA has been a wrestling dynasty for decades. Generational traditions are not as strong as they once were but still a very tradition rich program.
It reminds me of Hutchinson in 4A football Or Warroad in 1A Hockey. They may not always win it all but they're always in the mix.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!
