Appreciate the prayers, all.  Dad had surgery today that removed a tumor from his spine.  The surgeon did his best, and now we'll be moving forward to fight the cancer.  :-\
Dad's a tough SOB.

Just wanted to provide a quick update on my dad.  He went through radiation treatments on his spine and had been recovering from surgery.  Then, being the stubborn guy he is, he insisted upon trimming some trees where he hurt his shoulder.  He went in for his 3-month check, where they noted that he fractured his shoulder and tore his rotator cuff.  The subsequent MRI showed that cancer contributed to the fracture.  :-\  So, he'll be doing a radiation on the shoulder, and he'll be starting chemo in the next week or so to hopefully keep this at bay for a while.  Appreciate any prayers and good vibes you all can send our way.  :'(

Sorry to hear that - will include DuffDad in our prayers!

My dad also insists on doing tasks that he could easily pay for - or call one of his sons to help with...paying for services and asking for help just isn't in their DNA unless it's absolutely necessary!

That's 100% the truth.  I think he's finally understanding that he's just going to have accept help now.  Thankfully, they have some awesome neighbors, and I'm not too far, either.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers to you, your Dad, and your family Duff. I'm assuming we may be similar in age here (I'm 47). I always say that I am so grateful to have grown up when I did as I got to be parented and grand parented by a generation of just hard working people who could love you and chew lumber at the same time. Sounds like your Dad is an amazing man Duff. Going to keep sending those prayers and thoughts your way.

Sending good thoughts to your dad, who I saw wrestle back in the first Haws era.

A lot of tough birds in that generation. Our 79 year old neighbor has taken two tumbles off her roof in the past couple of years ... despite my insistence to call me for that stuff.

This has SJU third in the regional rankings. Ahead of linfield and River Falls.

If that holds true, I would assume they would be a lock for pool C.

10+ years ago my former neighbor had surgery for cancer...maybe bladder cancer. Doc told him to take it easy for a few weeks. The day before his followup appointment he went deer hunting and I believe got a small buck. The next day he went to the appointment and asked the doc if it would be ok for him do some hunting. The doc said that it wouldn't be a problem...to which my neighbor said, "Good, because I went yesterday."

Prayers to your dad...good for him not wanting to lay around the house. I swear guys like your dad and my neighbor flat out refuse to be coddled...which I respect them for...Can't say the same for myself.

But they said they will be conducting a national search.

I wonder how much of this is lip service.  SJU conducted a "national search" to replace John--just so happened that all of the finalists had strong ties to the SJU program.

I know Coach J was asked multiple times to apply for the SJU job when John retired. I don't doubt SJU was trying to get high level candidates into the process. But I also think they knew they had some really strong internal ones, and it worked out well.

My gut says they are genuinely interested in quality outside HC candidates. Doesn't mean it doesn't end up being someone like Mac. But I think/hope they will want to get as strong a pool as possible. So if you go internal, it's because it confirmed he was the guy, in spite of other good options.

It's a unique culture and environment they are hiring for. Not saying that to be dumb and seem like we're the only ones hiring in that fashion. But similar to how Wheaton was looking for a particular type of program/culture builder. In a different way, SJU was a unique one as well. Not every school is that way.

Praying Duff. Appreciate the update, was literally reading a new DM and saw the last update on your dad and it had me wondering.

Him being a stubborn old cuss might be frustrating at times, but also a major reason he'll be fighting like a dog. Keep us posted as you're able.
