Bartch played the last quarter of the previous game. I think their normal starter got twisted up on his last play. Ben looks like he's moving his man around. They're doing a lot of runs on his side.

I did not realise he played last week.  He had a recovered fumble as well.

He's playing quite a good individual game tonight, but the Bills are killing SFO everywhere on the field so badly that you have to get a little suspicious that they are ignoring the interior line as they are making so much hay everywhere else.

Quote from: Retired Old Rat on December 01, 2024, 06:07:43 PMFrom Charlie Walters in the Pioneer Press:

"It's not exactly a NIL benefit, but a University of St. Thomas football benefactor, who hoped to entice students to remain at designated games rather than leave the stadium early this season, offered a $2,000 tuition benefit to a student still sitting in a seat chosen at random."

Hmm... sitting in a randomly chosen seat at the end of the game?  That's the same thing as competing against a full student section which must be 1000 seats.  Horrible odds.  Plus with only about 1500 people attending a Tommie home game, you would think that's at most 200 students.  So that benefactor only had something like a 20% chance to pay out the cash anyways.  Cheapskate.

Hard to say, that can be interpreted a couple of ways. Does that mean choosing a seat at random, or choosing a student at random (meaning a student still sitting in a seat at the end of the game)? Anyone know the details? Was it guaranteed to be given to a student or as OZ said, only given if a student was sitting in the seat number? Hopefully it was given away by choosing a student.

Quote from: DuffMan on November 30, 2024, 06:04:03 PMWait, was there another middle finger salute?!?  First SNC, now UW-Laxative?

Pretty sure Nub's TE Seth gave us the double finger salute and came over the Johnnie sideline to make sure we saw it.

Would be interested to know exactly what the LAX players were chirping pregame during warmups.  As the skirmish ensued postgame some of the LAX players took a look towards the mosh and just walked off the field.  Prolly sick of their LAX teammates trash talk.  Take the loss, get on the bus and cry your way home.

Fall Durenberger Trophy Update

Three conference championships land in Northfield as Carleton wins its first golf championship, St. Olaf wins its third consecutive cross country championship, and St. Olaf shares the soccer conference championship with Gustavus.

The Johnnies hold a one point lead over Bethel and St. Olaf heading into the winter season.

Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

A bit surprised by the early Logan Hansen projection on Susquehanna. They look dangerous given their earlier result vs. Cortland. I watched some of their Hobart game. Quickfooted QB and RB. Podcast confirmed my thoughts that this might be an Aurora-esque matchup.

From what I've read it sounds like they put up a lot of points and give up a lot of points. Great O and passing attack, only ok D.

They have a tight end with the last name Hershey and he's from Pennsylvania.
One "plus" of getting ESPN+ is the ability to watched archived games.
Apparently Hobart had the #1 defense in D3.

I don't think you should make much of total raw NCAA stats like Hobart-like anything, you need a modifier| Strength of opponent schedule

Case in point-St Norbert #3 defense in the country
Lost to Stevens Point 24-3 | Held Stevens Point to 257 yds
Gustavus held UWSP to 203 yds
Gustavus is ranked #97 in defense
Gustavus played much tougher competition than St Norbert throughout-
Another perhaps more relevant comparison
Hobart "held" RPI to 357 yds
UW Lax held RPI to 252
UW Lax is ranked #106 in total defense
Those are the facts
Susquehanna has no doubt a very good offense, for sure and we will find out vs SJU how good

BTW SJU ranked #29 with opponents such as Wartburg|UWL|Bethel X2

GoldandBlueBU

The weather is looking downright balmy for December football this Saturday!

Really hoping we get to see BU and SJU meet up a third time, but I think Wartburg will be a difficult team to overcome.

I understand...I don't really take a lot of stock in national stats. I just hope SJU doesn't get it into their head that Susquehanna isn't a strong team. We have a history of playing down to opponents.

Never been a huge fan of putting too much stock in post season awards, but the AFCA All-American team was announced earlier today and Aaron Syverson not being named to the first team QB slot is a little ridiculous...the first team QB is Boyes from Cortland who won the title last season.

Syverson 3,916 yards 46TDs 4INTs 76% completion
Boyes    2,585 yards 25TDs 1INTs 68% completion

Maybe they will get a chance to play against each other in a few weeks......

hazzben

Agree on Syverson. Boyle is really good, but likely got a bump for the previous season Stagg run.

Jung and DeWall for Bethel named to the team as well.

Feels premature to name the team with the most important games of the season still being played. I guess you could argue it's a regular season honor, but I'd like to see what the best players do against the best comp down the stretch. Not that a guy has to be playing late to be a first team guy, but it could be helpful to break up who slots onto which team if it's close.

A certain QB in Naperville wasn't selected who may get a chance to play both in the next 3 weeks.  Really tough when you have 3 incredible QBs in a given year.  Added the rushing stats as well as I think they are relevant (and i am biased).
