The NCAA is doing away with I-AA & I-A after this season. There will be 2 subdivisions of D-I....the CS (Championship Subdivision) and the BS (bowl subdivision)...if anyone cares, there's plenty more info here http://i-aa.org/article.asp?articleid=79814

My 2 cents worth-- AO, NWern can play with the bottom tier team in the MIC, and might on rare occasion pull off and upset. They'll never be able to play competitively with the middle of the pack teams, much less the top dogs.  Winning the NCCAA is big whoops, kinda like winning 9 Man state football title--- NO ONE CARES. Wnjoy those rare wins over the bottom tier and save your yapping for NW vs Rockford or Martin Luther.  :)

Faunch-- a couple of years back Cretin played a team from Louisiana (I think) in a similar ESPN-covered game....they got beat handily, but in the Raiders defense, it was a down year at CDH, right after Mauer graduated.

Speaking of Mauer--- how bout them Twins last night? KR-- I will be off slightly in my prediction... I had said we'd be in WC lead by 1 ½  games tomorrow night-- looks more like it will be ½, but 2 ½ would be SWEET

Hey...my brother coached a team to two 9 man runner-ups recently...I care ::)

Bottom tier? Maybe if CSB fielded a team and Mac and St Mary's came back in then NWC could compete. Me thinks you're getting generous in your old age Maniac ;D

I'll give you partial credit on your prediction, if we do make it to 2½ up by tomorrow night's end, you will receive full credit and +k everyday for a week.

Semantics. The I-AA football schools don't like being called I-AA in non-football sports so they pushed for a change. It doesn't change reality.

Pat, I always knew you were Anti-semantic, just like your hero Mel  ;)

Any NFL teams need a WR who can double as a bus driver when the team is running late getting home from the bar?

AO,

I watched that game on ESPN today...and I would say that it would be unlikely that MN powers could compete with top 25 high school teams in the nation.  Those kids are very athletic and not just football i hear.  Most of them are all state in bball or track.  Yes, some of those kids can run sub 4.4 40's...so that is my 2 cents on that.

The only way a MN team could win vs. a team like that is to have Joe Mauer at QB throwing to John Carlson all day long.

AO: Karma -166...that has to be a record on this site. Wonka can't even come close to that.

Would that 9-man team be Cromwell? It's tough getting past Stephen-Argyle. They are a powerhouse!

Was up in Litchfield today - scrimmage with Hutch, Litch, Willmar and New London-Spicer. Maybe somebody knows a team that plays one of those four eams. Litch looked very good with about 25 players suited (more will suit from JV). QB Kent JOhnson tore up Hutch's def. Willmar will be down in the Central Lakes this year. No size, but had some speedy WRs. New London-Spicer should be an upcoming program. Had a nice running back. Hutch is middle of the pack in the Missota, which will have 5 of 8 teams in state rankings this week. 4 (New Prague, Northfield, Holy Angels, Hutch) in 4A, Farmington in 5A.

Can't speak for Hutch, but we (NL-S) were impressed by Johnson.  First play he came out, rolled left (rightie QB) and threw a perfect strike to his receiver on a deep corner route.  Our QB and that one stud RB are our two best corners and they didn't play more than a couple plays of D today, so hopefully come section time we won't let Johnson look so good!!  ;D

You are incorrect sir!  The team is Nicollet...They actually lost to Stephen-Argyle once in the championship and then beat them a couple years later in the semi-finals and eventually lost to Verndale.

I saw that high school game on ESPN, too.  AO, quit kidding yourself, those teams could waste, not only MN high school teams, but would probably own NWC as well.

Mighty Royal

I think you just assumed that I said the Minnesota high school teams could beat those teams.  If they could own NWC, surely then they could own the inferior Bethel as well.  The kids are good, but they were playing with offensive linemen at 195 and defensive ends at 205lbs.  Of course the kid who was 205 at DE was the one making all kinds of plays.

In my view the televised (ESPN?) high school game between the Ohio school and the Texas school played last September just before the Ohio State- Texas game had more impressive personnel than the Florida-South Carolina high school game played this week.

Detroilet...4 games. We play the Royals early this week. The Tigers play the Yanks. But let's get the sweep today first. How sweet would that be to sweep two consecutive big series in Chicago?

edit: Ok, so that didn't go so well.

Yeah I saw Silva in the probables today and groaned :-X At least there's another 4 starts before he goes again!  Hopefully Liriano gets back up to speed so we can get Silva outta the lineup...

My calcuator imploded trying to keep track, but I think Silva has given up 8 HERs and 11 ERs in his last 2 outings (11 1/3 IP), with 2game ERA of ~8.75.....that's gotta be a club record for most HRs yielded in that short of a span.

I'd say both of those HS teams on ESPN woudl have little trouble with NWC... as would Cretin, Eden Prairie and Wayzata. The differntials in size, strength. speed and overall quickness all favor the HS teams.

Its been pretty quiet in here this weekend, I starting lurking around a few weeks ago since I am getting that MIAC football craving again and I don't even have to read one extra page to catch up, that must be some kind of PP record !

I just finished watching the 409 game on DVD, sorry Bethel fans.*

How much longer until the season starts????

*In addition to my new Des Moines friend Royal Achilles, I have 2 friends in my class from bethel as well as a 1st year who is a royal. The 1st year is married to a girl who played tennis at Willmar with MrsKR. And a 2nd year PA student who went to high school with MrsKR and then went to Bethel
Adding this to my good high school friend who went to Bethel and I have 6 Bethel friends not even including MR! And you all thought I was an arrogant jack-butt who couldn't make friends outside of SJU grads  ;D

PS. The 1st year from Bethel is Ryan Davis, who was Bethel's punter in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
