Could the game have been played yesterday? Unfortunately, because the game is at the same time the Vikings will be playing in arguably the biggest regular season game in NFL history, my eyes will be on the Vikings. I have the Stagg Bowl set to record, but sadly will undoubtedly find out the outcome before getting to watch it. If that's the case, may not even watch. Disappointing for sure!

What about watching in two screens?

Good thinking! Guess I could pull it up on my laptop & watch the Vikings on my TV in the living room. Happy New Year, Faunch & fellow posters!

Mount Union seemed to be very well prepared.
These are the best two teams....the top 3-15 teams are not at this level of athleticism and size.
And this game is proof that you've got to be able to run in the playoffs. NCC literally has the ball the entire fourth quarter.
I've been saying this the last few years and I'll say it again...the Johnnies need to figure out how to have a running game.

Lastly...it used to be cool to have the championship game on ESPN...but on a Sunday night and it last 3.5 hours...c'mon man. They've got come up with something else.

If only I had known how big of a waste of time watching the Vikings tonight would've turned out to be. I did have the Stagg Bowl streaming on my laptop, although on mute. I would agree with your assessment that the two best teams were playing. To think that 2 of North Central's 3 loses under Spencer (spelling) came in the Stagg Bowl is wild!

I was so flabbergasted after reading this first sentence that I couldn't continue with the rest of your post, I'm afraid.

I was wondering if Spencer might use the NCC gig as a launch pad to something bigger but I think they said on the broadcast that he's never lived more than 5 miles from Naperville. Thinking he might be around for a while.

Game should have actually been scheduled for Dec. 30, Jan. 2nd or 3rd. Feel free to try and convince me otherwise.

Sure -- on Dec. 30 (or anytime between Christmas and New Year's) the committee found that its hosts would not be able to staff the games because of the number of volunteers required to actually put this game on. To have the game on Jan. 2, they would have had to travel teams here on Dec. 30 and have them here over the holidays, and the same with Jan. 3. In fact, if Jan. 3 fell on a Saturday, they would instead host the game the following weekend because the committee does not want to travel teams over the New Year's holiday.

Well, but other than that?

 ;)

Looking ahead to the fall, how does anyone see St John's looking? Looks like we have two open dates yet to be filled with non-conference opponents. Obviously the toughest test of the conference slate will be traveling to Arden Hills to face Bethel in the third conference tilt of the season. How different will our squad (& theirs) look? We have a transfer QB from USD that will competing to fill some big shoes. Can we build on this season or do we take a step back?

Bethel loses a lot to graduation...most of the offensive production (Kidder, Niewald, Ellingson).  Obviously they have Drews - so hopefully there are some younger receivers who were anxiously waiting for the older guys graduate.

Defense loses a lot too - obviously Jung, Nate Farm, but also Dewall, and Reese Pantilla on the d-line.  Lots of holes to fill!

I saw Logan Hansen post a Way Too Early Top 25 for 2025 on X that's not taking into account graduations/transfers & he listed St John's as #3 & Bethel at #7. Impressive for our two squads, but then counting up the 6 WIAC schools that made the list brings us back to earth. The rest of the MIAC is just not good.

I just did a quick count of the SJU roster and came up with 20+ guys listed as seniors that made significant contributions. It would seem that if there was going to be a year where an Augsburg, Concordia or Gustavus had an opportunity to move up in the standings 2025 might be it.
