50-14 Carleton over UM-Morris with 6 minutes left in former Johnnie Ramler's coaching debut.  R.J. Jackson had 6 touches in the first half.

About the Johnnie/Falcon game: when you consider a defense that could adjust against the run vs. one that could not stop the pass; a sophisticated and versatile offense vs. one that was limited; a first game performance vs. a second ; broad talent vs. limited talent the result is a 41-9 loss for RF.

RF had brief moments (at beginning of both halves) but could not sustain them. Already I miss option football. I don't think we ever were held to less than 200 yds rushing in any game last year. And our qb, who ran for 900 yds plus out of the wishbone last year will not do that again based on today's  game. But, it's early.

Still, the trip was worth it: the setting, the great weather, the beautiful campus, the great camaraderie at the stiftungsfestivities, the chance to measure our program against one of the best (even tho it falls way short) and even the brief moments of pride early in the game and for five  minutes after the half all contributed to a positive experience.

Our A.D. said that the total St. John's receipts for this game would exceed the total receipts for ALL athletic contests, men's and women's, at RF for the entire year.
Think about that contrast, Johnnie fans.

It was great meeting all of you guys: Finsleft, Veek, Retiredoldrat, Duffman, Johnnie Red and others I've forgotten. I look forward to a better game and a social gathering at Johnnies Bar on Main St. in River Falls next year. Good luck the rest of the way, Johnnies.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Anyone else nervous about Auggie Tech next week?  :o  :o

I'd like to go on the record tonite picking GAC as the 2nd place finished in the MIAC this season.  Very impressive win in Monkey Stomp fashion over Willamette after a long roadie to the West Coast.

Ut oh, Doomsday in Catdome Nation.  Looks like the Kitties will be coming to Cville this Fall.  Looking at that score a few moments ago warmed TDT's heart.  Good night

Having now had a some Hamm's on tap, a Bravo Burrito and more beer at Howie's, I have some thoughts on the game.
1st, thanks to Johnnie Red and Veek for all of their work sweating over the hot coals. And thanks to all the visitors from near and far, particularly BlueDevil Bob and Coach Todd for the new mugs. Great to see old and new friends at the festivities, particularly my old pal Larry Schultz who I might not see as often if it weren;t for these games. Food was awesome, great  chexmix Buckman!
All in all a good game for the Johnnies. Offense seemed much improved over last week. Kofoed still made some bonehead passes, but also floated some nice completions and looked better. Still has a ways to go. Interesting set with Patnode as a single back and using Lofboom as a receiver. Haven't seen the stats but SJU was moving the ball nicely today.
The D looked good. Steff was great as always, and Gunderson is a stud. Enjoyed watching the play of the Freshman #45 from Litchfield. He may play every D down for the next 4 years. Impressive.
Special teams need some work as SJU has not been able to decide who can kick the PAT's or field goals

Looking forward to seeing all my pals at the next game.

Good work to all MIAC teams that got victories this weekend!

Anyone see Notre Dame put on a clinic today?  Very impressive from a week ago!

Conference play gets underway this week, this should be a great year in the MIAC!

Johnnie Red

As announced at the Johnnie game yesterday, Auggie Tech is only going to have 600 tickets for Johnnie fans next Saturday when we travel to Minneapolis. Gates will open at 11:00 a.m. You would think the powers that be at Auggie Tech would move the game to Collegeville, St. Paul Central or someplace where they could accomodate all the Johnnie fans. ???

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Stiftungsfestivities yesterday. Great event as always!

Carver was rocking last night. Annual Steamboat Days celebration. Always nice to walk out of my house to journey downtown for some fun only to find a young couple making out on my front lawn. I suppose I should be thankful it wasn't my daughter.

Yes, I am alive....if anyone cares to know ;)

I have not been able to get to the tailgate parties, but have made both home games & did see Dusty, Mrs. Dusty, Carbo, Duffman & Johnnie Red yesterday. TDT & My Yak last week.

As the season rolls on & I get caught up on "outside projects" I will have some more time for gathering with SJU friends at tailgate parties.

As driving to the game today, my wife even asked "what's new on the Johnnie chat line?" my reply was "dear, I've been too busy to even log on once this year" then she said  "you've got to be kidding me!! :o"

As Finns mentioned in an earlier post, has the kicking game been settled or is it still up for grabs?

I will  not make it to Augsburg, as I drew the short straw next week & have to cover at the office. Good luck & safe travels to all.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

What a weekend for the MIAC. When is the last time the Knights and Scots had a MONKEY STOMP on the same day?

57-This must be a sign of the superior coaching that the Knights now have 8)

As for the Scots- It must be a sign of apocalyptic proportion  ;)

105,
karma for that. Kurt's first step towards breaking John's records.  :D

What a great day at Stiftungsfestivities!

Some random thoughts:

- The burgers were as good as advertised. JR you are the best.

- What an incredibly generous guy Veek is. Not only did we consume his brews, but he knew my wife wanted me to bring home some Johnnie bread. At halftime he bought 2 loaves and gave them to Todd and I. Next time I am Little Falls visiting my Father in Law I'm taking you out for some food and brew.

- KR is as funny in person as he is on this board. I agree with Veek that you should have had your kilt on.  :D

- Duff is as big as I expected and a super guy. I'd ask him to marry my daughter, but she is only 6.

- Fins always takes care of me somehow. Yesterday it was having 2 chairs available in case we wanted to sit in the "finsleft luxury suite" up on the hill.
The perfect place to watch a first game. Todd and I had a great time watching the game with fins and frankrickard.

- Meeting all the other guys like ROR, piperinsider, and having my buddy SamWill47sju show up with his boys was a blast.

- What I saw of the SJU campus was beautiful, including most of the bennies.  ;)

- What I saw in Clemens Stadium and the whole atmosphere I doubt could be duplicated anywhere else. Certainly no other place could be better.

Thanks everyone for a special day.  :)

Some interesting observations for Bethel from Simpson stadium yesterday.  After the first 2 weeks of non conference games, the Royals have held both Buena Vista and Simpson to a net of 19 yards rushing combined.  These are not MIAC teams granted, but I think a lot of posters picked Bethel to lose both games.  Ben Wetzell looked amazing rushing.  The pass protection looked good yesterday as well.  I think it will be close next week in Arden Hills.

Weird. ROR said the same thing about me two years ago, but couldn't decide which daughter would be a better fit for me. How about both?  :o

Sounds like a great win for the Gusties yesterday. However, I'm willing to bet any poster a meal at Pattys that Stolp will not complete 76% of his passes with no picks again this season. Too bad a freak play ruined a shutout in Bergy's debut.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

In the looking ahead department, I notice that Menlo College (just south of SF) is playing Macalestar in St. Paul on Nov. 11 - the same day the Johnnies play Bethel.  Which leads to a couple of thoughts.  First, it looks like I'm gonna have some company on the redeye flight to MSP (actually, the damn plane was full the last time - in fact all the flights between SF and MSP have been full - NWA is making big bucks on that route).   Second, if anyone wants to see a collective of human popsicles, go to the Menlo-Macalestar game.  Those Menlo kids (their roster includes 18 kids from Hawaii!!) may stay in the locker room at halftime.  ;D

Re my report on the local SJU recpetion Friday night, what's the explanation for all the Johnnies out here?  Met an 05 grad who just moved out here - he's working on an invention involving the marketing of alcohol laced ice.  Hmmm - where would he have thought of such a thing at SJU?  ::)

Tmerton: Are you receiving the SJU Underground News from the legendary Bob Wicker yet?  If not, let me know and we'll get you and your wife on the list.  There is typically some correspondence from folks in the Bay Area.  I believe the former owners of the La Playette now live in wine country and own/operate a winery.  Not sure about the connection between SJU and the SF Bay Area, will have to do some thinking about this...

BDB,

Johnnie Red, Veek, Finsleft and others throw a MEAN tailgate don't they?  I assume you are going to visit Central MN on a more regular basis from this day forward.  How were Veek's famous wild rice bratwursts?

Question 1: Was Red Hot Bennie there yesterday?  She told me about 10 days ago that she would be at the 2nd home game versus River Falls.

Question 2: For those that have been at both of the SJU games so far this season, Does this team have a shot at another deep run in the playoffs?

Fins: A Bravo Burrito?  That sounds like something that would make me sh!t for a week straight.  Does it do that to you?
