yeah I was surprised the booth was used so much.  I was told that would only happen if the game wasn't very good.  Also I think it will take a few weeks for the chemistry between Joe and Tony to develop.  They seem to be a little bit edgy towards each other and I would say it has good reason.

MR,

yes I see your point but they are trying to make it a more interesting night that not just die hard football fans enjoy.  There was an outside chance Bush was going to come to the booth for a little bit but it didn't work out.  Just wait till New Orleans on the 25th...with Shania Twain, The Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day, and U2 being there to preform it is going to be a crazy night

The chemistry between Tony and Joe will never be any better than the Clorox and brake fluid in my driveway. And I'd rather listen to the sound it made than to listen to Joe's idiotic drivel. Oh yeah, it made no sound. That's better!
And who, other than a die hard fan would watch MNF anyway. Do they think they're going to draw viewers from E!?

As for the 25th, no thanks. Twins are playing KC that night. It's much better to listen to Bert trying not to swear than to listen to Joe trying to say something intelligent.  :P

If that is their reasoning, that's...interesting. With almost any sport, good announcers will not make me want to watch a game/sport I wouldn't be watching anyway, but bad announcers will make me more likely to change the channel.

Whoa Nelly

It appears to me the NFL is marketing the fool who will buy the jersey and zubaz but couldn't differentiate between a false start and off-sides.  I've worked with these people and they attach themselves to the personalities they see on ESPN and in commercials.  It seems like Peyton Manning is in every 5th commercial I see.  A "good game" goes out to the NFL for bottling this crap but the media control and hype surrounding it has become a bit too much for my tastes.

I had a former co-worker who was crushed when I informed her that her "beloved" Redskins were not located in Washington state...but sure as the sunrise, she had bobbleheads and jerseys.  Go team.

It is almost embarrassing to watch how some sports/athletes have whored themselves out for media coverage. I love NHL hockey and sometimes wish that it was a more popular sport (with more televised games). Then I look around at the dog and pony shows that some other pro sports have become and think never mind. ;D

They could pretty much blow up the whole NFL and my feelings wouldn't be hurt! The best football is on Saturdays! ;D

Best announcers I've heard in the last few years are the two Brits who cover the Tour de France on the Outdoor Network.  They know about the sport they cover, they're articulate, and they don't "do" celebreties.  Now if they could just learn a little about American football, they'd be super.  And if they need to do MNF, they could include Bob Roll ("Bobke") for color.   8)

Everyone seems to be forgetting about how Tagliabue made the NFL 100 times more popular and profitable. It wasn't because he got football purists to keep watching the sport. Let the commissioner, the media, celebs, etc., focus on all the bells and whistles, I'm still entertained by what goes on between the lines.

OK, so now who do you think would make the best MNF color commentator.

Alfred E. Nuemann

Billy Mummy

Joe T

Looks are once again the same.  :D

PS: The first run off was won by Howdy Doody over Joe T.

Interesting write-up on major league stadiums.  Homer Dome was rated rather high in value but obviously below average in experience.

I might add Friday nights to that - I still love high school football.  I'd go see a high school game any day rather than sit at home to watch the pros.

College club sports are a lot of fun too! Intercollegiate competition with no scholarships (hmm...sounds like D3! ;)). I like to go to the club hockey games out here. Often times after the games they will have open skate where you can skate with the players. There is also a real comradery between the different club sports here. On Club Sport night, it is not uncommon to have the women's water polo team show up in their swimsuits, caps and goggles to watch the hockey game. Good fun...freakin' cold, but good fun!! ;D

That just might be worth coming to watch. 8)

They always seem pretty wild. I am sure if you brought some of your Kool Aid, they would even let you sit with them and keep them warm! ;D I'll stick with the hockey players! ;)
