TC, remember, if you are going to make the trip to Cobberland, you will be able to listen to all the country music you could ever want on every radio station that you can tune into once you get west of Melrose. ;)
Don't forget KASM - 1130 on your way through Albany. They still pray the rosary at 6:30 every night.

Don't think Paris Hilton is on their playlist, though.  :'(

OAS- Here's another photo from the last Stiftungsfestivities that I forgot to send...

And therein lies the quandry...  The various country music stations of Western Minnesota is actually one of my favorite parts of the trip, but I have two driving options.

First, I could drive my truck.  It has cool features like a working radio (AM and FM!  And a CD player!) and air conditioning.  Unfortunately, it gets about 11 miles per gallon.

Second, I could drive my little sister's Dodge Neon.  It's rather fuel efficient...  and red?  Well, at least it's fuel efficient.

Unfortunately, the face off of her CD deck was stolen.  Not the deck itself, just the face.  Real smart, jackass stealer guy.  Also, no air conditioning.  Or power windows.  Or cruise control.  But it does have a UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS decal in the back window.

Heads, you win.  Tails, I lose.

MIAC Players of the Week. Good showing for the Oles.

September 18, 2006
Co-Offensive
St. Olaf College junior quarterback Matt Penz (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) in just three quarters and 10 seconds of play, threw for 350 yards and three TDs in leading St. Olaf to a 31-6 victory over Hamline in the MIAC opener for both teams. In just his third career start, he completed 20 of 36 passes while distributing the ball to seven different receivers. His touchdown passes covered 19 yards, 72 yards, and 71 yards. He also rushed for 7 yards. Penz has the Oles off to a 3-0 start and has thrown 6 TDs with only 1 INT. Stats: 20 of 36 for 350 yards, three TDS (72, 71 and 19 yards), no interceptions.

Co-Offensive
Carleton College senior quarterback Darren Caspers (Bemidji, Minn.) threw a career-high five touchdown passes and the Carleton offense rolled up 494 yards of total offense in beating Macalester, 52-0. Caspers was 10-for-15 for 248 yards, as he tossed touchdown passes of 5, 19, 7, 72 and 60 yards, all in the first half. He and the first-string offense didn't play in the second half. For the season, Caspers is 24-of-34 for 481 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions and a quarterback efficiency rating of 247.66.

Defensive
St. Olaf College junior defensive end James Bechdol (Orono, Minn.) was dominant in St. Olaf's 31-6 victory over Hamline in the MIAC opener. Bechdol led the Oles defense in limiting Hamline to just 128 yards of total offense. Bechdol had 5 solo tackles and 2 assists, 2.5 TFL for 30 yards, he forced 2 fumbles, knocked down a pass, broke up a pass, blocked a punt and added 1.5 sacks. Beyond those statistics, Bechdol had incredible pressure on the Hamline quarterback all afternoon, limiting him to a 9 of 23 passing for just 65 yards. Stats: Seven tackles (five solo), blocked punt, two forced fumbles, two pass break ups, 2.5 TFL (1.5 sacks).

Special Teams
St. Olaf College sophomore kick returner Evan Endsley (Eagan, Minn.) continued to explode in special teams, setting the tone by returning the opening kickoff 68 yards to set up a score two plays later giving St. Olaf a lead they wouldn't give up. Endsley also rushed for 10 yards and had 33 yards receiving. He finished the day with 111 all-purpose yards

cobbernation

It's family weekend and Johnnie week here in Moorhead.  I expect to see a completely different and fired up cobber team than we have in the past two games!

Coming this Fall to Arden Hills: slap bracelets and the Macarena!!!

This just in....TC is too good and too mature for Chuck Norris facts.  Thanks, TC, for telling me that I am immature.  I didn't know you were my dad!

Coming this fall to SJU:  Women...oh wait, nevermind

Well women many not  be coming to SJU but another MIAC Championship is, probably a shot at the National Championship too, but hey Bethel has women so who needs National Championships. ;)

And they are finally allowed to dance with said women! Of course being allowed to and having the ability to are entirely different things! ;D ;)

Bennie-
Are you going to meet any of us who might go to Moorhead this weekend? After all, it is half way to Oregon.

I have been known to get down with my bad self! :o

Was this recent? When Bethel finally allowed students to dance was it like when Kevin Bacon appealed to John Lithgow at the school board meeting in "Footloose" citing Bible passages? Just curious.

And having to listen to Country music or Paris Hilton on the way would just make it seem that much further! ;D

USTBench - Yep ever since Tiki left it hasn't been the same. The next thing you know the gophers will play them as their season opener. I think the Cavs will beat Duke in a couple weeks - at least we can count on that.

I hope they turn it around. I plan on making it to a game this year.

For those making the trip "half way to Oregon" (are you starting in Atlanta?) that don't want to choose between "both" kinds of music (C & W), 105 FM out of Fargo is OK if you're a Cities 97 or Drive 105 fan in the cities.

One way to shorten the trip...get a good wheel alignment, hit the cruise control, and nap from Fergus on. You'll need a snooze alarm or you won't wake up until western Montana.

Also, the stretch between Alex and Fergus is a highway patrol hot zone. Resist all urges to quicken the trip in the traditional manner.
