Rat,
No, not a Bethel Student, grad from NWC (Northwestern College) many years ago.  Like I said, not sure why I wrote anything!  Would love to talk "real" football with some of you, but not really sure if any of you really understand the game.  I see you understand how to crap on each other, football talk, mmmm, no, not here!  Good luck all, I'm gone and won't be back!!

fell asleep reading one of Scrubby's novels.  But I just woke up so I'll post the info on the suspension of the PAC 10 officials working the Oregon/OK game:

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

The part of the story that gets me riled is:

"University of Oklahoma president David Boren sent a letter Monday to Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg, saying the officiating problems was beyond an "outrageous injustice," and asking him to pursue having the game eliminated from the record books and having the officials involved in the game suspended for the remainder of the season."

Doesn't the University prez have more pressing matters to attend to? Is OU's policy now "win or find a way to get the game nullified"? Of course, OU once had a star QB busted for possession with intent to sell and illegal possession of a firearm and the school tried to get charges deferred till after the season, so we know their priorities.

I didn't see the game, but I'm sure Stoops made a number of mistakes that also cost OU the game...altho none as blatantly obvious as the officals call.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Thanks KR for one of the best laughs I've had all night.  Me thinks M. Royal should keep it up just for the repartee!

Well after sitting in the hotel lobby killing time till my flight home I read a good 20 pages of posts and it reaffirmed something I had forgetten in my time away.  In general SJU posters are the most classless folks around.  Take a lesson from JR or Esq or even a Cobber.

Cobbernation,
Best of luck to you this weekend, I hope it is a fun day you and Grant

Johnnie Red

"Normal girlfriend red cup Johnnie crap?" :o Hopefully I will not be disqualified from posting on this board because I was a Johnnie distance runner.

Cobbernation, the Johnnie-Cobber pre-game gathering at Mick's Office sounds great. Post directions on how to get there. I say we should start gathering around 9:00 a.m. Appreciate your willingness to organize this. I actually have some Cobber ties. My niece and her spouse are Cobber grads. She is presently working on her PhD at the University of Miami.

JR, you get to wake up in God's Country, Longville Minnesota, then drive to the pre-game at Mick's Office in Moorhead?

You are retracing my youth. Color me jealous!

Would love to talk "real" football with some of you, but not really sure if any of you really understand the game.

Kind of tough for me to discuss a game that I didn't see.  I think you'll find a lot of football talkt on Saturdays and Sundays.  I gave my sysnopsis of the Auggie Tech/Johnnie game, and being that its the only game I watched this past weekend, it would be tough for me to talk about any others.

For this weekend, I like Big Red's chances.  The run defense is looking great.  Like I've said before, Gunderson is looking spectacular at tackle, and he's only a sophmore.  I've been impressed with him each game so far.  He's gonna take a lot of attention off of the other guys on the line, too.  LB play has looked good to me.  Rose, the freshman, is huge and playing well, but I'd like to see Schulte all healed up in there, too.  I'm a bit worried about our pass coverage.  It looked a bit suspect on Saturday.  One of the DBs (not gonna call him out) looked terrible.  He was caught out of position several times and couldn't tackle worth a darn.  I hadn't noticed it before, so I'm hoping he just wasn't feeling well.

Offensively, can't say much bad from this past week.  The o-line was doing a solid job.  Kofoed makes some really nice throws when he has all day to throw it.  Primus was dominating people on the o-line (when he wasn't puking on the turf ;D).  Like I said, Kofoed threw well.  Lofboom is unbelievable.  Patnode had some nice runs, too.  Keating and Gearman had nice afternoons and give us some awesome size down the field.  The back-up QB (Hansel?) looked pretty solid and I was very impressed with that back-up RB (Waring?).   He's small, but had good moves and quickness.  One thing I'd like to get away from is running the option.   Kofoed is not an option QB and it scares the crap out of me when he runs it.

Kicking game...blech!  McKenna can really boot the kickoffs and I think his PATs were solid, too, but they really need to figure out the blocking.  From what I remember, they were coming off of our right end.  They've got to widen that guy out so he doesn't get in there as fast.

All right, enough football talk.  Back to work flippin' burgers...oh wait, I've got a real degree.  Back to the drugs.

A tradition unrivaled...

Wahoo:

How 'bout them Cavaliers? Nothing like losing at home to Western Michigan.

USTBench - Yep ever since Tiki left it hasn't been the same. The next thing you know the gophers will play them as their season opener. I think the Cavs will beat Duke in a couple weeks - at least we can count on that.

I hope they turn it around. I plan on making it to a game this year.

They're a good time, but don't forget your Sportcoat and tie. Are you in Charlottesville?

Scrubby41- I do remember you from last year, when you posted early and often about the superiority of that Bethel team. It seems that for a guy with no connections to Bethel, you attend alot of their games and you always preface your comments with, "I was a former coach."
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but perhaps you need to stop trying to impress everyone with the fact that you are a former coach and see things we "ordinary" fans are to dense to see.
Bethel may be a good team, time will tell, and SJU may be a good team and perhaps there will be something on the line when the teams meet in November, we will see................

TDT-
I love how you always say BU sucks even when you know they are doing well...on both sides of the ball.  Swallow your pride for 2 seconds!

BU haters:
I don't know how any of you can say that BU won't compete for the best defense in the league this year?  Just check out what they have done so far in their games.  Now, I guess the argument can be made that BV and Simps. aren't good opponents, but come on, that is just a cop out comeback.  Maybe BU loses to Olaf or SJU this year...maybe.  But one thing is for sure, their D is going to be top notch in the league, there is no doubt about it.  I know most of you hate BU for personal, or not so personal, reasons, but giving credit where credit is due is not a matter of you liking, but a matter of respect for a given opponent.

I'll quickly chime in in partial defense of my fellow Johnnies.

One of the issues many of the Johnnies have found around D3football.com is that we've been hearing the same things out of the Bethel contingent for years, and much of it boils down to an underlying argument that "Bethel doesn't get any respect from [insert critic here-- SJU, MIAC, D3football.com]."

I think just about all Johnnies respect what Bethel has done-- Steve Johnson has taken a perennial bottom feeder and built it into a competitive conference program year in and year out.  But forgive us for often looking on a long term regional or even national scale, where the Royals have tended to fail even when in a position to succeed.  So we often look at the Bethel program with a bit of a snicker until Bethel has more playoff victories than Augsburg does in the past 10 years. We respect the Royals for what they have done, but given our longer term memory, and that Bethel has won the same number of MIAC crowns as Carleton, Macalester and Augsburg, how much credit should the Royals be given?

By contrast, there is great Johnnie respect for Concordia-- the Cobbers not only are a great program, but have seen comparable success on the national stage to the Johnnies.  We know they have a good team year in and year out, and they really bring it for the Johnnies (in particular).  Same with Gustavus, who was a strong program back when Bethel was still on Snelling and Midway.

So we are skeptical of any of these Bethel claims.  I am personally impressed by Bethel's running defense, but not yet about their passing defense. Considering SJU hasn't really run the ball much anyway, and St. Olaf is a passing offense as well, these squads match up pretty well against the Royals.  I think Bethel has to prove they can defend against the pass (and you don't do that by beating the teams ranked 7th and 8th in the IIAC in passing offense), and pass the ball against a quality pass defense, before I am a believer.  Most Johnnies will note that this year's UWEC team was not as good as in the past, and UWRF was not quite to UWEC's level, and we'll discuss our shortcomings.

BTW, BU is first right now in the conference in total defense, giving up 24 yards less per game than SJU.  I personally believe SJU's competition is better than has been Bethel's, but that will be borne out over the next few weeks if that is the case.

If I can, I'd like to make one thing clear;

1st-my comments were about BU and how good I felt they played on Saturday. I don't think I said anything bad about CC or that they were not a good football team, they are.  I was just stating that BU played very well on defense and I thought overall, they had a nice team.

2nd-my comments about talking football has to do with every response to my post was dumping on BU and not talking football, x' & o's!

3rd-I am a retired coach, now living in this area watching my grandson play.  I live close to Bethel, got to know some of the coaches last year and enjoy watching MIAC football.  I've been to others, Hamline, St. Thomas, etc.

4th-for the SJU people that are responding, I don't think I ever said anything good or bad about your team.  If I were to say anything about SJU, it would be nothing but very positive stuff.  Hands down, the best program in the MIAC, if not in the entire country!  I haven't once said that BU will win the MIAC, beat SJU or anyone else for that matter.  I just find it interesting how so many of you take what I shared and put your own twist to it.
