Well after sitting in the hotel lobby killing time till my flight home I read a good 20 pages of posts and it reaffirmed something I had forgetten in my time away.  In general SJU posters are the most classless folks around.  Take a lesson from JR or Esq or even a Cobber.

Cobbernation,
Best of luck to you this weekend, I hope it is a fun day you and Grant

Freebird, I resent that remark.  Generalizations can be dangerous.  Sure, some of the SJU posters can be obnoxious.  There are a lot of us.  We are justifiably very proud of our football program.  Kids that are not only great players but great kids.  There are posts I wish my friends would not make.  Heck, there's a couple I would like to take back.

I don't think the proportion is any greater than that of any of the other schools.

You might note that many of the nastiest remarks are  one Johnnie to another.

P.S.  As far as I know the games are still won and lost on Saturday afternoons by the young men on the field.  Here's to an exciting season an no one getting hurt.

ROR,

I have been thinking about your comments and you are right generalizations are dangerous.  To be honest I forgot to include you when singling out people that are actually respectable posters and really people I enjoy socializing with before a game.  In my two seasons posting on this board you, JR, Esq, and 105 have been posters I try to model my posts after.  JR is the only reason I had respect for SJU before I started posting here due to his kind gesture of offering my friends and I a burger at the 2004 game when we ran out.  Some of my other friends still talk about the amazing tour Esq gave us of the campus at the 2005 SJU/Hamline and again that was very cool.  Unfortunately posters such as TDT, Duffman, KR and other drastically bring down the amount of respect I have for your program.  They don't seem to get it and continually show signs of immaturity and ignorance.  The most recent example being KR's unwillingness to admit he is wrong in claiming I condone vandalism at my school.

As a friend ROR I am sorry for the generalization but I hope you can understand where I am coming from.

I think of the MIACPP as a sort of pub.  The traditional English pub was typically divided by a wall into two serving areas.  On one side was the saloon with nice furniture, carpets on the floor, cushions on the seats, etc., while on the other side the public bar was working class with bare boards, hard seats, sometimes with sawdust to absorb the spitting, and cheap beer.

I think you're looking for the carpets and cushions of the saloon when it appears that the MIACPP is bare boards, hard seats and sawdust - in short a public bar.

Yikes!  Paris Hilton charged with DUI!   :o :o

JR, I presume this means the end of the Paris Hilton CD at the Stiftungfestivities.   ;)

Johnnie Red

Willy Wonka, we are still going to have fun at the Stiftungsfestivities this Saturday. The idea behind inviting all the politicians was to honor the memories of Eugene McCarthy, a Johnnie grad, and Paul Wellstone, a prof at Carleton. Nothing more, nothing less. No political speeches allowed.

Just trying to win the d3football.com award this season for the best tailgate party in America at the d3 level. Always nice to have some themes. The "We love Lutherans and green jello" theme when the Gusties come to Collegeville on October 14 should be a blast.

I am wondering what the theme should be for the Bethel game on November 11. How about "We love Paris Hilton in Collegeville; Paris Hilton, for some reason we have never heard of her in Arden Hills?" Let me know what you think. I could get out an invite to her and hope she shows up in Collegeville. I could only imagine we would have 13,000+ people attending the tailgate party that day. Comparable to when the Royals came to St. John's in `03.

tmerton, just read your post. No, as just mentioned, we will be trying to get her at the Stiftungsfestivities in person.

As much as I love discussing politics, I do try at great lengths to refrain myself from doing so on this board, and especially try to keep the jagged sneers about certain individual politicians to a minimum.  While we all may slip up from time to time, can we agree to try, at least until or even if PC gives us a separate forum to do so on our own (not endorsing it, and it's probably more of a headache to monitor than it is worth), to keep politics out of here up until and through the election, unless said politics include MLB MVP or Cy Young voting, or Anna/Lisa (is Maria next? 8) )?

In an effort to get back to football, the week 5 lines are posted in the pick'em page.  Have at 'em.

By the way, the Carls are head and shoulder above the rest of the conference with a +11 turnover ratio thus far, in all of 3 games.  Granted, they've played Macalester, which may inflate those numbers a bit, but still-- Hamline is second at +5 in 3 games.

all that high powered legal prowess, I'd better ammend my schedule!!

Imagine the blackmail power we would have if we could get a pic of Klobuchar, Wetterling, and Kennedy shotgunning Hamm's behind the PA.

I'd vote for whoever won out of Kennedy and Klobuchar since there is no apparent quality either possesses that I admire nor desire in a politician aside from Kennedy's SJU ties. Fortunately, I am an Iowa voter, so this fall I will help decide who is the ruler of all things corn for the next 4 years.

Yeah, I'm sure JR, Esq, and 105 regularly PM posters calling them pricks.

Kornheiser and the rest of the MNF crew sucks, even worse than the Dennis Miller experiment. Miller at least said something funny once every other week. I've taken to watching MNF on mute. It allows me to retain all of the brain cells that I bring to the couch. I also change the channel anytime any "celebrity" is on. I'm watching a football game for the stuff going on between the white lines (no, Whitney Houston, not those white lines). I don't give a rip what whacked out has-been midget actor the Washington Redskin's owner has in his booth, or what Spike Lee's next "joint" is going to be or when Jimmy Foxx is going to make another horsesh*t movie.
If I did I would watch the TV Guide channel or Entertainment Tonight or some other crappy show.

WW,
One of the few times we agree on something. Bethel really can bring the world together.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

The stats really don't mean a whole lot until it gets a little further on in the season when every team has played more MIAC games.  The knights were #2 in the nation in offense going into last week, but they played teams that were not good.  Although, the turnovers are definately a positive, the one interception the knights gave up last week bounced off the receiver's hands directly to the DB coming up on the play.  A good third of the turnovers for the knights opponents came from Bethel as well.  Turnovers win games, so if the knights can force a few and not have any themselves they will have a shot a-la St. Olaf a few years back.

Ouch!  So true, though.  TO's have killed the Johnnies a few too many times.

Johnnie Red

I noticed in reading the article on Paris Hilton that she was on an early morning hamburger run when she was pulled over and got the DUI ticket. How could we not get her to Collegeville for the best burgers in America, given her apparent affinity for this particular culinary delight? Some things just match up.

The best part was I was sitting in the stands talking to some present/former carls (probably in the second half) and Porta (or another RB) had already fumbled once, and I kept telling them that Porta would fumble again as he is usually good for about 2 a game and low and behold what happens a little while later...FUMBLE (although some of it could have been the exchange).  He is a very good back, but you would think by now he would have found a way to hold on to the ball as it's one of the most important parts of being a RB.  I was always told growing up that the quickest way to the bench is to fumble the ball.

My apologies for not mentioning JR's intentions in my earlier post.  These are close to the exact words he has used with me several times in discussing this over the past several months.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Kurt Ramler last night for my story and the man is one laid back yet energetic and passionate football coach.  A phenomenal interview and I think a great person to lead Carleton for the forseeable future.

Quick story:

I traded calls with both Ramler and Caspers last night.

When calling Ramler back to discuss "the play" he asked me if Caspers had anything good to say.

I said yeah.  He's a nice down to earth kid who's excited to be the starting QB on a winning team.  Then I said "But coach I was really surprised when he said 'Knights 21, Johnnies 14, I guarantee it.'"

Ramler laughs out loud and I of course, after a short time, had to reveal that I was kidding.  The Knights are confident but they are also smart.  I think they hope to open some eyes in Collegeville.

Freebird, thanks for responding.  I think you got most of what I was saying.  What I want to be clear on is their are good people who appear to be assholes on this site from every school in the MIAC.  There are more Johnnies who appear to assholes because there are 10 X as many of us on the board.

We all have different styles and our styles change with time.  The rule I try to follow is to not say anything on this board that I would not say to a person's face.  I didn't follow that rule 25 years ago.

KR, Duffman, TDT, MR, FreeBird, OAS: you are all assholes. :-*  Oh, and Willy Wonka too. ;D
