Who can tell us about the Oles and especially what kind of offense they run, or should I say, pass?  The Johnnie pass D I saw in the UWEC game was weak and apparently hasn't improved much.  :P

Tmerton, Based on what I saw from STOLAF last year they are pretty pass happy. If memory serves me correctly , they used a lot of short passes (long hand-offs). Their QB was on fire the opening drive. I think he completed his first 10 or 11 passes.

I don't think they tried to stretch the field too much.

Anybody seen STOLAF this year have more insight?

Looks like I missed a great day in Collegeville for a not so inspiring event in Eau Claire.

Quick scouting report comments. I am not sure what Eau Claire team was in Collegeville in Sept but if it is the same one I saw yesterday....we (Johnnies) are in trouble come playoff time.

Eau Claire could not do anything but shoot themself in the foot. They gave a good team every gift you could imagine. WW started every drive in the first quarter in EC territory. Interceptions, fumbles, short punts..you name it. And WW was willing to accept all gifts. Two one play drives (30 & 40 yds)  for TD's. Short field score after a fumble. Score 24-0 at half time. EC could not get through a series of downs without a penalty to slow/stop any progress. Second half a little better but WW had total control. They started replacing players mid way through the third quarter. However with EC on the goal line at the end of the game I saw some of those guys back in to preserve the shut out.

I guess my  point was Eau Claire was terrible.

The WW folks (one guy in particular) were relegated to screaming at the refs over some penalties against WW when they were leading 34-0! Geez EC already gave you the game what else could they want.

Got my report all filled out and had a few people wonder what I was up to.

I met the coach from Rochester Mayo and talked awhile with him...now it's the recruiting side of the job. I wear many hats..all say Mount. LOL I suggested he send some of his kids south east like Laurinitis at OSU. A MN boy doing well. Love those Buckeyes too.

Anyway WW is still tough and have added receivers to replace the ones who graduated (ran out of elligibility). Beaver got his yards mostly in the second half and they had a freshman RB that looked pretty good too. Beautiful day for a game as it was in C'ville.

Looking forward to the game in Northfield next week.

Congratulations to the Twins....The American League Central Division Champions.  Nice work Detroit!

So this dominent win was not so much about UWW being good but UWEC being bad and giving the Hawks, "gifts?"
Can we give a little credit to the defense, please?

Quote from WWW.warhawkfootball.com:

"The Warhawk defense did its part by limiting the Blugolds' offense to just 137 yards on 61 plays in the game. Brian Borland's defense continued to dominate by giving up just 32 net rushing yards on 26 attempts while limiting the Blugolds to 105 passing yards. Matt Blaziewske, Ben Farley and Paul Wick all recorded interceptions for Whitewater.

Whitewater's defense keyed great field position for much of the first half for the Warhawks.

"Field position always plays a big part in a game," Warhawk defensive coordinator Brian Borland said. "We just didn't let them out of the hole."

How good was Whitewater's field position to start a drive in the first quarter? After starting the game at their own 47-yard line, the Warhawks next four possessions would start at the Eau Claire 11, 10, 39 and 32-yard lines. The reward was a two-yard TD pass to Derek Stanley, 28-yard Jeff Schebler field goal, and one play drives on the next two possessions resulting in a 39-yard touchdown pass from Justin Jacobs to Derek Stanley and 32-yard scoring strike to Pete Schmitt"

This is the same defense that held Oshkosh's to 10 net rushing yards on 25 attempts the week before.

Regarding UWW putting starters back in at the last series to "preserve the shut out?"  I believe that was ONE starter when his backup took a shot to the nuts that had him pucking on the sidelines. (Sorry if that was Too Much Info)  ;D  There wasn't any time and UWW wasn't going to take a timeout so the starter just ran back in! .

UWEC didn't give away this game, UWW took it but I wouldn't expect an unbiased report from a poster named "Raiderguy!!"  ;) :D ;D

True story:
The 1st time I met Joe, we took turns pounding on the silo at his dad's farm and shooting the pigeons with a 12 guage when they flew out the top.
Final score that day Joe 8 Me 2.

Footballfan413,

Don't get your panties in a knot!

Is anything I said about the first quarter not true?

Eau Claire could not get a drive going without a penalty setting them back every series. In addition if their #17 could catch the friggin' ball in the first half they would not have been "in the hole" the entire first quarter. It wasn't the defense that caused him to drop those balls. You know as well as I do he dropped four balls that would have given EC first downs and continued their drives. Would they have scored?  No way of telling but they would have been in a better position to punt WW further back than  EC's own 39 yard line. Their punter did manage an 85 yarder remember?
Should WW not have taken advantage....of course not .....and I never insinuated that they shouldn't.

Don't take it so personal, WW has a great team and would have won the game in my opinion without the "help" /poor play.  You have to admit EC did make it easier. And if you can't admit that I am affraid you must have been sitting with the grey haired guy screaming at the officials for no good reason? It was legit call by the official except I think it should have only been running into the kicker, not roughing. The grey haired guy saw no penalty at all. What game was he watching? Results ended up being the same because even 5 yds would have been enough for the first down they got but they did receive the extra ten yards. Didn't make a damn bit of a difference in the overall scheme of things. Except put "grey haired guys" blood pressure off the charts! ;D

Hey I didn't take a head count but I know I saw more than one in the final series but if it makes ya feel any better there was only one. And "he" helped preserve the shut out.

Didn't you read the part where I said
QuoteWW is still tough and have added receivers to replace the ones who graduated.  Beaver got his yards mostly in the second half and they had a freshman RB that looked pretty good too.

I love seeing good games every week and travel some distance to see them. I saw one good team and one bad one last week how about you?

The underlying theme (since I posted this on the MIAC board) was if the EC team I saw Saturday was the one St. Johns only beat 15-13 the first game of the season......then the Johnnies are in trouble if they face WW in the future!

After all this "report" was never meant to be more than MHO.

That's all you'll get from this Raiderguy. ;)

You are right on Raiderguy.

Johnnies really need to take it up a notch if we have hopes of playing into December.

Raiderguy,
Just looking for, "credit where credit is due."  UWW's defense made it easier.  The underlying theme of your post, IMHO, was that UWW was not good as much as UWEC was bad.  And I never addressed the comment about the grey-haired man, (and no, I was not sitting with him nor was my wife wearing a Stagg Bowl T-shirt.)  Wouldn't defend that behavior.
