From the Chicago Tribune this morning:

It's not yet sunrise, and Daniel Shields is lingering over a $1.25 can of Hamm's beer and a hand-rolled cigarette.

The 64-year-old man begins his days, several mornings a week, at George's Tavern in Berwyn, a pub two years older than he is. He comes to beat loneliness, to roll his Drum tobacco, to grumble about politics.

Kr-is this going to be you in a few years??

Everyone,
If you think that it gets cold here during the football season, check out this link: The Real Frozen Tundra!

Features a football team from Barrow, Alaska!

Oh yes, they are the only team in the nation to play football above the Aritic Circle.  Great Story!

I'm not so sure we can count on Life Safety to look the other way when we start passing around hand-rolled cigarettes.  :o

Duff--How was the fishing yesterday?  Sure, October 11th snow isn't ideal, but it means that Minnesota is that much closer to Crappies and Tip-Ups.

Could anyone provide me a good picture of the Bethel is Bad shirt?  I just found out that a co-worker spent a year and a half at Bethel before dropping out.  I can hardly function.  I need that picture.  Thanks!

Speaking of appellate decisions, I was out in Hutchinson last night for an event where all seven of the Minnesota Supreme Court justices were present. One of the justices, Barry Anderson, is a Gustie grad. I asked him if he would be in Collegeville this Saturday when the Gusties come to town. He seemed somewhat puzzled by the question and then commented that he only went to two games while he was a student at Gustavus.

Sounds like Justice Anderson needs a little Football 101 from Justice Page, who woud be well qualified to teach him the finer points.  8)  Some day you should invite the judiciary.

Fishing was really slow.  Ice fishing...waste of time.  I just do it to keep sane.

I'll send you a pic of the Bethel shirt this evening.

A tradition unrivaled...

JR-
When you were reviewing apellate decisions, did you happen to come across this one?

In Minnesota Court of Appeals
A05-2002
County of Morrison, Respondent, vs. Gordon K. Wheeler, Sr., et al., Appellants.

Morrison County District Court, Hon. Thomas A. Godzala.

A municipality that substitutes or amends an existing ordinance regulating adult establishments does not bear a heightened burden to produce evidence showing that the ordinance serves a substantial government interest.
Affirmed.  Judge R. A. (Jim) Randall.

Looks like the County's action is upheld, and Veek and Ritz are going to have to find a new hangout.  :'(

Usually I tried to stay away from that place...  No ointment in the world can cure you of the "things" you'd pick up there.  Plus the cinder blocks and particle board stage were all class!!!

On a side note, the Honorable Judge Godzala is in a battle with cancer, and he is not doing very well at all... They have been a family friend for years, so keep him in prayers!

Concordia to debut new 'Kernel'
Concordia College has a message for its homecoming opponent: Fear the ear. The Cobbers will debut a new mascot named Kernel on Saturday, a corn cob with a "determined grin" on his face. ;D

I had a Cobber friend of mine email me the same article. My reply to him was You know what RATS do to corn? They eat it up and sh*t it out!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

KR,

You have 500k because you are so entertaining.

Congrats on scoring the free food and wine.
Two words:  THE STREAK

FPM

I wasn't in attendance last week for the Hamline-concordia game but I guess there was the introduction of a new mascot and I recieved numerous pic texts, and phone calls yurning for the return of the FPM.  Actually the new suit would have been fun to tryout but there is something to be said for the old school way with no masks.

Fins - I hope you sent your condolences to Gordie.  I never did step foot in that place but I have heard plenty of stories.

What time is the Pace Arrow planning to arrive on Saturday?  Can you bring another card table along and who is in charge of the condiments, cheese, and buns for the hamburgers?  We've got to work together if we plan on pulling off anything similar to the event that JR puts on.

JR - Raiderguy may be bringing your Paris Hilton CD but I wouldn't expect it to make a return trip home.  I have a feeling that we will be so busy with burgers and brats that we might lose track of it. :P
Go Johnnies!!!
