Longer,

It's easy to get caught up in the stats.  I've seen both BU and CC play SJU this year, and CC was by far the better team.  They'll beat you with the run.  Like you mentioned, they don't throw much, mainly because they don't have to.  Their defense is very good.  I just don't see Porta getting too many yards.

BU might have a chance if CC is having trouble rebounding after last weekend's game.  I think they were very jacked up for the SJU game, and they may struggle this week, but if they come at you like they did SJU, BU hasn't got a shot.

In my opinion, here's what the MIAC looks like:

St. John's/Concordia
.
.
[St. Olaf]
.
.
Bethel/Carleton/St. Thomas
.
.
.
Hamline/Augsburg/Gustavus

I would rank the teams in that order, 1 through 9, and also into those three distinct classes.  We'll know in a few weeks whether St. Olaf will rise to the top or take the Bethel/Northwestern route to MIAC mediocrity (right, AO?).  I would listen to arguments about St. Thomas being a 3rd World team.  Anyone see anything besides those three distinct classes (+Olaf)?

Based on the above, Concordia beats Bethel, and it's not close.  The two teams are on totally different levels.

I just don't see Porta getting too many yards.

This brings up my question from earlier this week.  Has CON's defense gotten that much better than last year when Phil ran for 183 yards almost all in the 1st half?

Whoa Nelly

I saw CORD play Hamline and with all those turnovers they still gave up little yardage and only a TD off a fumble inside their 30.  The D is better than last year against the run and probably little to no drop-off in the secondary.  I've heard Horan is bringing in some great kids so you may see more of the Cobbs in the future.

I'll be in Arden Hills tomorrow...and the forecast is much improved compared to 48 hours ago  :)

I like the Cobbers in a very physical game...

Speaking of physical match-ups - who would win between Hurricane Wilma and Ditka?

Freebird, yes, I think their defense is better against the run than last year.

Mighty, I can't give up my secrets :P

What if the hurricane's name was Hurricane Ditka ???

Touché ...my guess is they would have to create a new class, perhaps Category 15?

Elsewhere, the Minnesota Vikings petitioned the National Football League to let them play the remainder of the season onboard a boat, arguing that that is where they have done most of their scoring this year.

Hey, hope nobody is forgetting their pick-ems this week.

Still no word on MLV being out, and Augsburg has not posted any game notes.

Anyone else think it's kind of sad that the bottom 5 teams in the MIAC have only one conference win a piece?  There's definitely an upper and lower echelon this year.

To take a page from the WIAC book, "It's because we [the teams in the bottom half of the MIAC] beat each other up so bad week-in and week-out..."   ;)

Sorry, quoting a really old post, but I haven't been back in a while...

57-that is a great cause-have a good time and I can fill you in on the game, if need be.

I saw this stat on the St John's - Concordia game.  "Concordia held St. John's to minus-17 yards rushing, but lost the game 20-16"  Incredible stat.  I wonder how many times a team has been held to negative yards rushing and still won the game?
