105,

Thanks for the insite.  He actually plays both ways right now that they are in the playoffs.  He is a LB and a FB on offense.  He's been a three year starter at LB.   If he attends a school in the MIAC, school, football and environment will be very important.  He already knows how special SJU is.  Any program that has the success they have each year has something very special going on.    I think he's very interested in UMD as well.  He had a visit there two weeks ago and was very impressed with the school and the chance to play there right away.  Anyway, thanks for the "kind" words of encouragement and insite.

I am sure you are already telling your grandson this, but it probably wouldn't hurt to remind him. If he is lucky, he will have the opportunity to play football for four more years. Not to be unkind, but the odds of him playing organized football after that are pretty slim. That is true for many D1 athletes, let alone D2 and D3. Hopefully he is looking more closely at the academic offerings of the different schools because the education and the career path it leads him to will last a hell of a lot longer than any football career.

Very well said.  His grandmother wanted him to stay close to home, she passed away recently.  I think he'd be more open to going away now.  Either way, the money it cost these days for college, the academic and environment part is equally as important as the football stuff.  Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Stiftungsfestivities yesterday. The only thing missing was the Paris Hilton cd, which Raiderguy left home. :'

JR, did Raiderguy forget the Paris Hilton CD at home or did he forget it at home in his CD player?  :D

ROR,
Well, it takes not having a life (or at least not being able to get to a good live game and having to spend  Saturday afternoons listening on the Web) . . .

I opened up the boxscores on school sites.

With a Firefox browser you can do it fairly easily: hit  control-F , type in "STO penalty" and hit highlight all. Then sort out the PFs in the play by play. My count before last weekend had STO far ahead of the league's top echelon.

Oh, what you really meant was "you can look it up but it's a lot of work."   ;D

Next time I'm forced to listen on the web I'll give it a whirl.

Duffman, great job on the photos.  Thanks.

It's killing me not being able to go to the games.

My posting will likely drop off this week as I will be in training all week practicing my shotgunning techniques.  After last year lord knows I need the practice.

Hey Raiderguy - Nice "Hoodie" I've got one commemorating SJU's 2003 triumph. Do you have one for every day of the week +? ;D

QuoteConsidering so far this season they have played Hamline (1-4 in the MIAC), Augsburg (0-7), GAC (1-4 in the MIAC), Valley City State, Luther (1-7) and Concordia (2-4 in MIAC), I would certainly hope any team with a winning record would hold them below their season averages!

Now that's interesting--St. Olaf played SJU just a few weeks ago and you didn't mention them.  I wonder if it's because they didn't hold St. Olaf under their season average????

Wanna know where SJU held Olaf below their season average? On the scoreboard the only place it matters. I also don't count Olaf's last 2 TD drives in the final 8 minutes since the majority of SJU's starters were out of the game since it was locked up.

Thanks for the PM though. Made my day to get a PM from you. All I need now is a phone call from Warren Jeffs and then all the important people in my life will have checked in.

I'm glad you felt the need to PM me to inform me you are not concerned about my opinions and/or your spelling or my insight. When I don't care about something, I usually also send PM's to people to show how unconcerned I am :D

Please tell me what season averages Bethel held St Olaf under that SJU didn't?

Let's look at some stats, shall we?
                        vs SJU                                       vs Bethel
Points scored       21 (14 in the last 8 min)            29 (3 in the last 8 min)
Passing yards      302                                            280
Rushing yards      110                                             90
Total yards           387                                            370

Wow, Bethel allowed 17 less total yards, what an impressive accomplishment!

I'll give any team an extra 17 yards in exchange for holding them to 8 less points.

In your PM, you accurately predicted that I'd mention the score, DAMN RIGHT!

Until League standings are based on Defensive statistics and not on wins and losses, I'll continue to consider the scoreboard the ultimate decider of who is the better team.

By the way, how did Bethel do as far as holding Carleton below their season average statistically? I have no idea, all I know is Carleton had a higher big number on the scoreboard at the end of the game than Bethel and that is all that matters.

Good to see you are preparing yourself for a Bethel loss on 11-11 with comments in your PM like "I really don't care who wins each week."  Must be the mindset you developed as a NWC alum.

Have a great week! Feel free to drop me another PM to tell me how much my opinions don't matter to you if you get bored.

Hey KR, lets not get too excited... The Johnnies go 9-0 into 11-11

BU comes in 8-1.  Of course TDT will predict Hamline and Auggie Tech willl knock them off but that wont happen..   We will be in Collegeville for an important game.  I was suprised at the size of the Olaf O line which you guys handled easily, and I think it will come down to pass coverage.  'We did shut down the Ole run game as we will your run game, but I dont think Gearman is too concerned..   I hope Bethel sees the post season, and I am sure the Johnnies will do well.  I want to say that the BU coaches did a great job  last weekend. I only bring it up as someone can't seem to get past the fact that Johnson had faith in his team and that Johnson did not cost the Royals the game in 03. Maybe another wager Doctor?

RA,
Name the terms and I'm in under 1 condition; you tell me what kind of beer you want and where to take the case I owe you from the last wager.

QuotePlayoff-like atmosphere at BU today and with similar atomsphere exepected  @ UST Sat and again 11/11 for the finale.

Playoff type atmosphere? half the Bethel section was empty, which is pathetic for a game between two 1-loss teams. This has to be especially disappointing considering they were putting up flyers encouraging students to go. It makes me wonder though, what the hell do bethel kids have to do? I mean, its not like they were out partying the night before, they arent tailgating somewhere else. I talked to some of the guys on the team, and they were borderline disgusted about the poor turnout. This doesnt bode well for their trip on 11-11, cause if kids are too lazy to walk the 200 yards to the stadium, who is gonna drive up north? I'll be honest though, I only got there for the last quarter. that said, congrats to Porta on the record, great guy and a great player. Also, nice work to the entire bethel offense for having less than three turnovers for the first time this year (or at least if feels like it). Defense looked like last year's Bethel D, which means they are dominant for two downs at a time, they let Oles convert so many 3rd down opportunities.

MMMM, did I hit a nerve or something??  I'll bet SJU is your favorite team??   Interesting thing is that you went to all that work to see if I was right or not.  Then, like most dip****s on this site, you bring up the Carlton game.  Like it's going to hit a nerve on me.  You don't get it, I DON'T CARE!!  I like football and I think BU/STO/STU/SJU/, Ohio State, Texas, Bisons, Viking's (don't care about the Vikings) have good football teams.  This all started with me sharing that I thought BU had a good defense several weeks ago after watching them play.  God only knows I should have never said a word--but then again, it sure has gotten the attention of some of you dipsticks.  Enough, I'm gone from this site and might return after that "so called" big game in November.   The only big game that I care about is the one my grandson plays on Tuesday, win or lose, he's been a joy to watch.
To those that talked football out here, thanks you for the interaction.  I'm sorry that I type with one finger and that this site doesn't have spell check.  Other than that, it has been very interesting.  Good luck to any of you that actually play, it's a great game.

VOJ

Here is the other thing about the Oles offense in the SJU game...many of those passing yards came late in the game when it was decided...  The Ole's are over rated lets face it...and if Bethel struggled with them... then it does not look good for the Royals

There is a difference between having faith in your team and doing something borderline idiotic. Like say, oh i dont know, kicking it to the best player in the country when your up with not much time left? I dont know, I just dont think that was sound decision making. Then again, I'm not paid all that money by Bethel to finish in the middle of the pack every year. That said, hopefully this offensive resurgence continues and the Bethel D keeps playing well. It was nice to see Porta back to his 200-yard form.
