This might be a question for Pat, but given the current record in the MIAC, the given is the Johnnies see post season under all scenarios. Is it possible for an unranked team be it BU or St. Olaf getting a playoff bid and if so against what conference would  it most likely come? The oles will probably win out from here with BUs only potential loss coming in collegeville. Under that scenario, both finish 8-2 and BU already beating St. Olaf would have the advantage I would think.  With a BU win in Collegeville, the Johnnies and Royals share the conference title, and both get in?

thats not good.....2002 SJU v Coe the weekend after thanksgiving saw -2 before windchill at the noon kickoff.  At least the sun was out.

That one was cold!  Of course I was too tough for sleeves, which was fine till the monkey stomp was on and they put the reserves in.

I think it was the only time I've seen refs in parkas!

If both SJU and BU go into 11/11 without a loss in the next two weeks and BU wins (not gonna happen), BU gets the bid because SJU had the auto bid more recently than BU.  SJU would have to hope for a bid.

I am getting a little nervous about Frank and Mongo.  We haven't heard from them since they took on the city of Fargo this weekend.  I hope they aren't slumbering away in the Fargo County Jail this morning...

We're alive, but still recovering.  I'm pretty sure we made an impression on Fargo,  but I dont know if it's a good or bad yet.  Let's just say this: I challenged a child to a chicken wing eating contest, which he declined, probably out of fear.
The NDSU almost-upset was the talk of the town...gophers are pathetic.

Re: Collegevillemagic

I hate when a question is put out there and doesn't get addressed, particularly by those with more exposure and knowledge than I, but here goes anyway. The few games I've seen have led me to the conclusion that Royce-Diop doesn't get more playing time because he has trouble holding on to the ball all too often, either not making the catch, or dropping (fumbling) after making a catch. Also, it has looked to me that Haugen is a better downfield blocker than most. If they didn't have studs like Weber and Gearman, I think it might alter that combination, but it looks like John can afford to use him, and feels the team is better off with Gearman and Weber (and Giesen and Keating) catching, using Haugen as a blocker. Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?

MR, I was at the game, and at the beginning of the game, the student section was about half empty, but by the middle of the 1st quarter, it was pretty full.  The rest of the stands were packed, but I did not look at the attendance numbers.  What I did notice was for a game of this magnitude, the endzones were not as full as usual.  And if the Royal faithful think saturday was cold, wait until Collegeville in November.  Probably about 0 degrees...

RA,
How many fans can you get in the stadium in Arden Hills?   4,000?

retagent- Royce-Diop's only fumble that I remember (and I could be wrong) was in the UW-Whitewater game last year, but who didn't drop the ball that day?  I haven't seen enough passes thrown in his direction to know about the drops.

VOJ- what lack of dedication do you know of?

Duffman, thanks, in the unlikely event that BU does lose to St. Johns, what sort of chance do they have of seeing a playoff spot?

sju56321

Probably not a great chance, but so much can happen between now and Nov. 12th. If the IIAC leader stays unbeaten and the second place team does not lose another game, they probably get two teams in, the WIAC probably gets two in, the MIAC may only get one, the California conference will have one, the NWC will have one and then you have the MWC. Pat will probably show me I wrong  ;D, but that is ok, just my thought.

Another curious fan with a question here:

Not only did Weber not get a ball at WR (yes, nitpicking in a HUGE stomp of a victory), but Royce-Diop is only on the field for kick and punt returns now.  Last year, he was often starting along with Gearman, and he's certainly a lot more dangerous than tiny, slow Casey H.

In fact, other than Gearman's first TD, I would say R-D's punt return to the Hamline 10 was the most impressive offensive play of the day.  Why is our second most exciting (and possibly most athletic) offensive player stuck on the sidelines and not running patterns?   ???

Royce-Diop is a bit of an enigma... after losing out on the quarterback race in 2004 he may of lost interest.  He's certainly big enough and appears fast enough to be a greater contributor than he currently is.  I've seen him throw a few good blocks as a WR but I also think he lacks elusiveness on punt returns.

I suggested long ago Royce-Diop be converted to a blitzing linebacker or free safety.  The current Johnnie offense has the right people involved at the WR position as Haugen is a solid down field blocker and good occasional possession receiver.  If your superstar gets the ball as he did Saturday it's a happy day.  Weber is a terrific 2nd option.

My guess again would be without R-D on the field more often it may be a sign of disinterest.  Just my observation.  I saw him as a future key contributor several years ago, I also saw him in Sexton Commons at 11:40am on game day picking up a hamburger and a banana.  I used to like a whole grapefruit and bag of potato chips... my how times have changed.

If bethel and Olaf both end up 8-2, I dont see either of them getting in. Only chance this conference has of getting two bids is if Bethel knocks off SJU, resulting in two very deserving 9-1 teams. Olaf is not getting in, unless there is some sort of apocalyptic scenario where the Johnnies somehow lose two of their remaining games.

Oh, and bethel can probly hold a good 5000 when both stands are at capacity and you have the various standers around the end zones.

BUdefense,

I think you are correct.  From last year's bracket there were no 2 loss teams that made it in.  I don't see a 2 loss team making it this year unless its Linfield and thats because those two losses came from non D-3 teams.  There were a lot of teams complaining that they were left home with 1 loss let alone the two loss teams.  Even with 32 teams in there will be many teams crying foul at being left out.
