So, who is all headed to Pella?  I'm planning on going but as of right now I'd be flying solo.  That's a long ways to drive by one self.

For those of you that are going down Friday, where are you staying at?  Are there any plans for a get together Friday evening at one of the local watering holes?

Jimmy G hasn't been worth his salt since the days that he was spinning Bananarama CD's for his "friends" in college.  I'm guessing that most of what he's accomplished in life has been due to his father's connections.  Anybody with ties to the SJU football program knows that Jimmy is the weak link.  My calling for his pink slip (which he probably wears well) is nothing new other than my posting it here.

This smacks of a personal vendetta. I wish GAC had a "weak link" with national title credentials. Care to expand on your assault? Maybe move to include Jerry Haugen, since his son sucks but still starts? Maybe they should just cut the whole coaching staff after a loss and throw in the towel on the postseason too, eh?

I don't think it's personal.  The offense this year, on paper, should be scoring 30 points a game minimum (or more, considering we're not far removed from the SJU point-a-minute squad).  But the Jays' offense has scored less than 20 three times this year, and we're not even in the playoffs yet.  I put the blame on the coach that puts the offense together, as ultimately he is in charge of the personnel that take the field and appears to be calling much of their plays.

In fairness, Haugen didn't adjust to what BU was doing, even though it was obvious their playbook was about 5 plays big against SJU. But it kept working, so no fault to Bethel, but the SJU defense looked 1) confused, which is the coach's fault, and 2) tired, which is the coach's fault for not subbing.  But Haugen has earned the right to make a few mistakes, whereas Jimmy has not.

I can tell you stories about practices, Wonka, as to what Jimmy has dreamed up and pulled.  I for one would like to see him take some time off to succeed at the high school level to prove himself, as virtually every other SJU coach has already done.  Then I'd eat as much crow as could be fed to me.

I'm not headed down- I'll see if the TC Chapter can put something together for a "listening party" at a local watering hole...

I'm making the 1 hour trip over from Des Moines. If anyone else is staying in Des Moines and would like to meet up with me at a local watering hole, I know of a few of them!

Just for reference, SJU enters the postseason averaging 32.6 points-per-game according to the MIAC website. Should I assume your complaint centers around the fact he apparently chokes in big games then? Otherwise, I'm not sure what to make of this. The stats and track record don't seem to back up the argument.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

CobberHogg

Greenbayguy,
To also comment on your question about the Cobb offensive line, they should be very tough as usual.  Being a hogger that just ended a career, they do have a few backups that should continue to make the line tough and rugged.  As we all know, the Cobber line loves to play hardnosed, smash mouth football and I don't see there being any difference in the upcoming few years.  Like CC Backer said, we have 2 starting tackles coming back and a 3rd that rotated in most of the year.  All three are very talented tackles: good hands, good feet and tough players.  One guard spot will be open for sure, and hopefully one guard will return (this will be known soon as he is trying to get another year of eligibility back after his first year at a different college).  If he comes back, he has the possibility of being an All American.  Very tough, excellent lineman!

The offensive line coach is definitely one of the best at his position.  He knows the game inside out and really loves the fact that his hoggers can pound the ball and move it all around the field.  It will be hard not playing for him anymore.  Anyways, good luck to both the Johnnies and Royals.  Royals will have a tough game come Saturday, but I have no doubt that they can't pull out a victory.  And being involved last year and the year before in games against the IIAC, I have never been too impressed, so I do see the Johnnies handling Central and making it to at least a second game in the playoffs.  Either way, good luck and represent the MIAC!  Get the job done and let's see a SJU-Royal matchup for the West bracket championship!

I would say running up big scores on mediocre teams to make that average that high contributes to it.  When actually playing teams like CC, BU, or Eau Claire they only average 10+ a game.  Obviously they did well against STO and the Tommies and the rest of the games averaging 40+ points a game.  For some reason they were able to get up for some of these games but in the big games came up less than average.  The quality of the teams is better of course but a good team should be more consistant with points scored.  Look at UWW's numbers and they score a mere 38+ a game with one 7 point game in the mix and then its 41+ in that very tough (supposedly) WIAC.  So yes I would say their inability to score in the big games is what the big question mark on this team is.  They seem to be able to score at will on some teams ie. STO, otherwise are stymied by teams like CC.  Big games are key and it seems that different SJU teams have shown up for them this year.

Throw out Hamline and Augsburg (the bottom two MIAC squads) and SJU averages 26.25 per game.  Quite the difference, wouldn't you agree?

105--

I hope your faith is restored in the old man after Saturday.  I think SJU wins but they need to play better than they did on Saturday, so we shall see.  Have fun at the game all those who plan to attend.

Dutch--
UST played SJU 3 weeks ago and lost 27-7.  SJU scored on a kickoff return and interception but also twice fumbled inside the red zone.  UST defense was their strength.  I will be surprised if SJU doesn't double your season sack total after Saturday unless your offense rolls the pocket.  Best of luck to your squad.

;D

I get your point and I assume you get mine, and we can agree to disagree on this one.  It's petty for us SJU fans to be frustrated about feeling we're underachieving compared to the rest of the MIAC; but when you see an offense making the same mistakes over and over, and the offense consists of seniors and other multiple-year starters, it is intensely frustrating to see "rookie" mistakes.

I'll get off this one now with this question:

Who gets MIAC MVP?
Stam?
COY?

MVP: Wetzell (nod over Kofoed and Porta for playing more games)
Stam: Ledyard (CAR) (led conference in sacks)
Coach: Steve Johnson

Redtooth

Collegeville Magic and Johnnie Esq,

I am an infrequent poster, but long time reader of these pages.  I feel compelled to respond to your recent criticism of Jim Gagliardi.  Not only were your comments unprofessional and misguided, but also an insult to all the players and coaches that have played or coached with or for Jim.  Your claim of "inside" sources confirming that Jim is a weak link is bogus.  I am always amazed at the "inside information" that jock sniffers like the two of you claim to have.

As near as I can tell Jim has been the Offensive Coordinator for MIAC Championships in 93,94,95,96,98,99,00,01,02,03,05 and 06.  West Region Championships were won in 93,94,00,01,02 and 03.  SJU also played in the Stagg Bowl in 00 and 03, winning 03.  I know you are each aware of the above information, but you seem to conveniently forget that Jim was designing the offense during those championship years.  This sort of coaching success is hardly grounds for Jim needing to prove himself at the high school level.

The two of you need to grow up and get off Jimmy's back.  I would encourage both of you to apologize to Jim of these Boards with your real names and not some hide behind handles.  Clearly neither side of the ball played well against Bethel last week....get over it and let's get ready for Central.

knights,
Sorry about the no comment on the Hawks, yea Im a fan...as emberassing as that is to say right now. I couldnt tell ya whats going on, I was at quite a few games this year...its frusterating, hopefully they can pull it together for the Gophers this weekend, gotta retain Floyd ya know ;) I think the secondary is the Hawks biggest weakness...so well see. I gave up on their season though, haha

Its funny you mention rolling the pocket because thats what Central tries to do a lot, get him into open space to throw or run. Plays to our advantage, if SJU over pursues it will definitely be to their disadvantage. The more I hear about the Johnnies the more exciting I think this matchup will be! Sounds like STU plays them close except for some costly errors?? I guess thats the beauty of the game though!
30 IIAC Championships

The White Silly

  ...my thoughts:

MVP: Marcus Levesseur (even though he is not playing anymore, simply for the fact that he is cagefighting, UFC is the best sport of all times, anyone heard the latest on his career by the way?)
Stamm:  Ryan Wassink (laid the wood time and time again an absolute beast master)
          COY: Brad Childress (not)

Here's a question I think would be fun to answer:  Who is the MIAC Post Patterns Poster of the Year (MPPPOTY if you will) and if you feel so obliged Why?

My vote is for Willy Wonka cause I think he is a flat out funny cat and I love that he does consistent posts at 5 am...gotta respect it, I would also throw out Mighty Royal cause he uses 37!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! exclamation points per post, and I always like it when I feel like people are shouting at me, a double bonus is when one writes ALL IN CAPS WITH LOTS OF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....please stop yelling at me the Silly Surprise is sensitive....lots of love for Mighty Royal...bass boost deer hunter.....need it...
