Check the little rubber bits coming up from the field (McNamara's cleats) in this picture.   What I've heard from players re fields like this is that this stuff can fly into your eyes and be a real nuisance (esp. since in some cases these shavings may be metal as well as rubber).

I was wondering that as well.  There are a couple other shots from the game where a player's head is in the dust.  I believe this stuff is used in the HumpDome and you know the Vikes would never do anything to cause their game to deteriorate...  Actually, I first noticed it seeing a shot of a short hop to Tori Hunter.  I wondered if that stuff would bounce up into a guy's eyes.

Its a little early to be talking about next year, but don't sleep on the Oles, they were mostly juniors this year, I think they'll return about 15 or 16 starters. MIAC pride.

Oles?  Isn't "Ole" short for "Our season was over last week"?

Good one, d-bag.

Oh, I'm sorry.  Did I offend?  I forgot to add that "Wahoo" is short for "consistently underperforming sophisticates in redneck territory."  Thank goodness C-ville is such an island of culture.

Is this really taking place? Have AO and Sofa King combined to steal tmert's password?  ::)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

C-ville here means Charlottesville.  To know Virginia fans (Wahoos) is, well, ... to know them.

It gets in your eyes...as well as about every other crevice of your body.

What are everyone's thoughts on Michigan staying at #2 in the BCS?

I love it--I hope we get to see another OSU/Mich game for a national championship.  I have a few friends who love Michigan who will be cheering for Notre Dame when the play USC. Probably the only time in their lives that they'll be cheering for ND.

Read in the Pioneer Press today that the Alamo Bowl was eye'n up either Iowa or MN for their big ten selection--you'd think that they'd pick MN since they just beat Iowa, but then they'll look at that NDSU game then laugh.  2000 Flushes Bowl here we come!!!
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

From what I have heard it's either season one or two. As for it getting everywhere... yes. I have a small pile in my new apartment from that game, the Bethel game, 6 games at the Dome this year, St Thomas... They are a PAIN!

But I have to say, it was hard to find the rubber at the dome... had to go about an inch into the "grass" to find any "dirt". That field is just in horrible shape (Yes, I am aware they use it about 3.5 days a week year round).

Is this the first season Central has had it?  I recall that the first year the rubber flies more and makes more of a mess until it gets a chance to settle in.  Oh well no more games at Central till next season so no worries.

wahoo-who do the ole's have return at RB?

Here's a "whole week to go until we get more Johnnie football" fix.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iswIyk7EOs

I'm sure it's been posted previously in the previous 1569 MIAC thread pages, but like any fix one hit just isn't enough.

I'd like to prove both K-Mack and P Cole wrong on two counts today. They both picked both games against the MIAC

This was not true, by the way.

Thanks for that, repete.  I really appreciated it as I haven't seen it before.  Not too much makes me homesick down here anymore, but the view of the Chapel across the lake at the end kind of pulled it out of me.  I didn't play ball with John, but SJU has left a mark on my life - and has earned my fierce loyalty. (Ahh, jeez, I'm getting all choked up...)

They lost to the consensus #1 team in the nation at their place by 3pts and that's their only loss.

Every other DI team that plays a real schedule with actual decent DI teams (aka not Boise State's cupcake schedule of no ranked teams) lost to someone else besides the #1 team in the country and more often than not by a larger margin.

Here are the losses of the 1 loss teams in the AP Top 25:

Michigan- lost at #1 Ohio State by 3 pts
USC- lost at un-ranked Oregon State by 2 pts
Florida- lost at then #11 Auburn by 10 pts
Arkansas- lost at then #6 USC by 36
Notre Dame- lost at home to then #11 Michigan by 26
West Virginia- lost at then #5 Louisville by 10
Wisconsin- lost at then #6 Michigan by 14
Louisville- Lost at #15 Rutgers by 3
Rutgers- doesn't even deserve to be on this list after losing to 6-5 Unranked Cincinnati by 19

Based on that, Michigan was by far the most impressive team in their 1 loss and lost to the best team, so IMHO they should be #2.

It must be fairly new.  SJU's field was like this when new, too, but it gets better as it settles.  Also, I remember they added more rubber to the field as the 2002 season wore on, so maybe that was the case in Pella.

Yes, the flying rubber does suck a bit.  I remember getting it in my eyes and dumping it out of my shoes.  I wonder if Central practices on the field.  It seems that it would help it settle quicker if they do.  Regardless, I'd much rather be playing on a field like that in November and December that a grass field.

A tradition unrivaled...
