I knew that, but I'm amazed they had such a short leash on Miller.  The guy did a pretty good job putting Stolaf into position to win before Meidt, and from what I understand, Miller had done a decent job recruiting to Hamline.  Sounds more like a disagreement with the AD, noting that "Miller was 'leaving'", while the women's soccer coach "resigned" on the same day.

With such a short leash, would many coaches be interested in the Piper job?

Maybe Minnesota two-sport legend and current Hamline hoops coach Barry Wohler would take it. If Tom Izzo can be mentioned for the MSU job, why not Wohler for Hamline. And he did coach football at Belle Plaine, Marshall, etc.

If O'Brian calls me, I'll listen.

Here is my best guess: Chad Rogosheske. He entered his eighth season as an assistant coach for the Pipers this year, and second as the team's defensive coordinator. After spending three seasons as the Pipers' running backs coach from 1998-2000, Rogosheske was the wide receivers coach at Wartburg College for one season (2001) before returning in 2002 as the running backs coach. He also served as the offensive coordinator in 2004. Rogosheske played for the Pipers under head coach Dick Tressel from 1994-97.

Wow, that's a little surprising about Morneau. Can't wait to read the New York papers tomorrow, see hwat the Jeterites have to say.

UUggghhhh.... I can tell you first hand that most of my office (in NY) is going nuts right now.  I HATE YANKEE FANS!!!!

What will a $200 million payroll get you? 1 more playoff win than 60 million will.
Besides, Jeter is only the 2nd best Shortstop on his own team.

Apparently the Whitworth qb has a bad wheel (ankle/foot/whatever), which made him not very mobile last week against Oxy.  Let's hope he's still a gimp this week.

If he isn't at the start of the game, he may be by game's end if the Central game was any indication of the Johnnie D-Line's apparent decision to set up basecamp in the Central backfield.

I think Hamline would be smart to look at Rogosheske-- he's a good up-and-comer and could really give the Pipers a shot of youth, which could help in recruiting.

I'd be concerned, though, and it wouldn't matter who they picked if they don't give him enough time to build his own program.  In fairness, the two years Miller had at the Piper helm is hardly enough time to see a huge change of direction.  My guess is that this wasn't the first time Miller and O'Brien butted heads, and O'Brien didn't want to hear it any more.

I'd love to see Wohler do it-- it would be Gagliardi II!

As far as who Hamline should hire, people from the state to Minnesota's south are well aware that Dan McCarney is available :)

WOW-- just looked at the MIAC football page to give credence as to why (if looking all-time, Gustavus is ahead of Bethel-- GAC has had 10 undefeated seasons before the NAIA even was a force!), and saw this.

Hamline University moves in new direction with football leadership
Paul Miller Hamline University athletic officials announced Tuesday that Paul Miller will be leaving his position as head football coach.

Someone have any information here?  Was this a force-out or something that Miller decided to do?

Any thoughts on a replacement?
I didn't foresee this coaching change at all. Coach Rogo seems like the logical choice for a successor-thought he would be a frontrunner 2 years ago. Maybe the job needs a young person's energy.
If this was a force-out, seems a little unfair to only give Miller 2 years to turn things around. Wouldn't a coach normally get a 4 or 5 year contract to step into this kind of situation? Hamline just plain didn't have the horses this year, but they did have a big recruiting class.

I talked with the Blue Devil D-Coordinator last night at the Lady Devil blow out of Northwestern College basketball game (89-45)*.

I asked him about Whitworth. "They were pretty simple, really. Pressure the quarterback and cover the tight end."

You folks going out to the game will figure out who the tight end is in pre-game warm-ups. He'll be the biggest dude on the field.

*Pat- I think Coach Thomas has a Final Four squad this year. #11 will be top 5 in 2 months I'll bet.

Reminiscing last night brought forth a memory of a trip a few years ago.

It was Thanksgiving of 2000.  We were in Seattle to play PLU.  Where else do you take a football team for Thanksgiving dinner when you're away from home but...Old Country Buffet!  I think we stood in line nearly an hour to get that scrumptious meal, which I will never forget :D

Wooderson, wouldn't you agree that that was a fantastic excursion???

I hope everyone has a great Turkey Day!

Duff - did the rest of the patrons flip out when they saw all 60+ of you guys walk in?  I imagine Linneman alone could put back 5-6 plates?

Thankgiving for me just got a little more interesting.....my mom had to be admitted to the hospital last night.  She is having an angioplasty in a couple hours.  Sounds like everything is fine and all of that, but I have been put in charge of thanksgiving dinner.  I am making the first (of many, I imagine) attempts at a pumpkin pie here shortly.

Good luck to the j's this weekend and safe travels to all headed to Oregon for the game and those headed out for the holiday.  Please keep my mother in the prayers.  thanks.
