Realistic: in the old day-1989-1992, wouldn't worry about D-I castoffs, as teams competed at D-I level for basketball and track-had those same guys playing D-III football.

does anyone know if there are rules against that type of thing now?  Can a D-1 scholarship lacrosse player at Johns Hopkins play D-III football.  There aren't too many of the "grandfathered" multi-division schools but I was just curious if anyone knew.

BUdefense, thanks for the notice about the article by Austin Murphy. He is a great guy and an excellent writer. It has been a few years since he has been in Collegeville. Last time we saw him was in `03 at the Stagg Bowl. Hopefully we will see him there again two weeks from this Saturday to cheer on the Johnnies. ;D

No problem on the notice. I havent read his entire book, I only read the Bethel chapter. I was afraid if I read the whole thing that I would be brainwashed into actually liking you guys.

Ok, it's Wednesday, time to quit wasting so much time talking football. It's beer time.

I'm bringing 4 cases as a welcome to WW present for you tailgaters. So far, I have had these requests.

Lienies Red
Lienies Honeyweiss
Old Style
Rolling Rock

Should it stand that way? and bottles or cans?

Sounds terriffic, Flash.  I would throw in a humble nomination for Pabst Blue Ribbon in place of Rolling Rock (might as well make it a Wisconsin Grand Slam, you know), but that's just me.

I also second the nomination for cans--typically cheaper, and they are all going into red/BDB cups anyway.

Anyone interested in the Second Annual West Regional Final Shotgun Championship?  I know the 16 oz. Milwaukee's Bests went down smooth last year.  Any suggestions for this year's beverage?  Who wants a shot at the title?

Well, without Duffman, I am not sure you have a real champ for shotgun-but my money is on TDT!

I'd put my money on Mrs. 56321 before a guy dressed in pink.  ;D

Alright Boys, I'm out for the weekend. Keep those cell phones ready on Saturday. I'm expecting a championship in the Extreme Tailgate competition and, of course, a Johnnie victory.

See y'all in Texas!

OzJohnnie

Here's a couple questions, for those that may have the answers:

* Are the Johns carrying any significant injuries into this weekend?  Was it Patnode had the sprained knee?  And Luberts' toe has had a couple weeks to heal up.  Those are the only two that come to mind for me.

* What to do about the *shudder* Big O Line?  Now the Johnnies have managed to make other Big O Lines look like a wasted investment in hog fat and Cocoa Pops, but the Bethel experience was ugly.  No adjustments helped, and the defeatism set in.  So, will the fellas be ready?

* Who will be John's replacement when he retires?  Bwah ha ha!  I know it's not Tuesday again, but I couldn't help asking such an obvious question.

A scholarship JHU lacrosse player cannot play any D-III sport at JHU, by NCAA rule.

In a gesture of ecumenism and healing BDB has extended an olive branch across the MN/WI divide in an attempt to put a clamp on the pissing contest that has errupted.

I don't know about the olive branch Dusty.

I'm enjoying watching Duff and KR flame the fire over in the WIAC!  :D

I'm not flaming a fire so much as p*ssing on it after a night of drinking 180 proof booze :)

Keating was D-I basketball player, if the U qualifies, but not a football player at the U.

By the same token, LeVasseur was a DI castoff... seems to be working out real well for Augsburg, I don't know why every school doesn't try it!

Time to go get ready for my 1:15 prostate check... believe me I look forward to giving these about as much as most guys look forward to receiving them :-\

I'm pretty good at them, I guess my year of living with TDT makes me an expert in dealing with smelly a$sholes :o
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Given the present state of Golden Rodent BB is is arguable whether they qualify for D-1 status or not! ;)
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun

1 last thing before I go, no matter what ESPN claims, a 5'9 310 lb 17 year old girl is NOT AN ATHLETE!

She outweighs her NFL Lineman brother by 10 lbs and is 7 inches shorter.
Any "ability" she has on the football field is only due to mass effect and the fact the defense (and her teams RB's) have to run around her.

QuoteEvery other time Alter scores a touchdown, Holley -- who stands at 5-foot-9 and weighs 310 pounds -- runs onto the field for the point-after attempt

5'9 300lbers don't run, especially the females.

The weather is looking perfect for football this Saturday.  Clearing to sunny in the afternoon with a high of 38.

It will be too much fun to miss.  I'll get up a few minutes early on Sunday morning to see if any of the tail gate make it to the video webcast.

KR - I hear what you are saying but did you see where she can squat 570?  Thats not too bad.

Veek

Flash - my personal opinion is to always drink from bottles.  While beer from a can is still good it is not the same as its bottled counterpart.  And Leinie's in cans is brewed in Milwaukee and not from the wonderful eddie springs in Chippewa Falls.  Whatever you choose to do, though, is fine with me.  Thanks for the gesture.

Go Johnnies!!!
